Today is the day the New York City building employees were set to walk out. They didn't have a contract, but they settled at the last minute.
We'd been keeping up with this strike, because it was going to terminate building services. No doormen, no engineers, no trash put-out, no fixing stuff, no nothing. This would have become a big problem real fast, especially in Manhattan. NYC is a union town, and they mean it. The employees in our building were expecting picketing duty, in exchange for whatever strike pay they could get. We had to get IDs for anyone that might come upstairs, because no doormen. Emergency service, etc... fuggedabouddit.
I was down with the strike. It's a hassle, but so it goes. New York is a hassle. You get used to it.
But there is no strike.
