She described herself as bi on TikTok and said she "basically disagrees" with the far-right Senator on everything - from politics to her clothes.


Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) daughter, Caroline, has reportedly come out on social media as bisexual while castigating her father’s far-right political views.

In a video posted to TikTok, she also accuses her parents of digitally altering a photo for the family Christmas card to make her clothing look more conservative.

“A lot of people judge me based upon him at first glance,” she said. “But I really disagree with most of his views.”

But after the video went viral, users noticed that she also included her pronouns and described herself as “bi” in the profile.

A screenshot of a comment thread shows someone asking if her bisexuality “is something he knows” if she was comfortable talking about the subject.

Yes I get your point. But, by default it's already political, often before the time one is born. I was the kid of a small-time, no-name conservative Republican-leaning pastor couple tucked away in southern California and when I came out it blew my world apart and theirs, because it was public. There was no more denying it. Not too much later, they'd go full-blown Republican, during the Bush41 era.

That was over 30 years ago, in the Reagan Democrat era, same time that a lot of Black Reagan Democrats became Republicans, when nobody thought of "Reagan Democrats" as anything but whites.

Now, we know better. That aside, any time a kid of a rightwing nutjob Evangelical public figure comes out, really as ANYTHING other than rightwing nutjob conservative, it's political by default, and the pressure of doing so either in public or private is immense.

Because, as we well know, you come out in private and you're seen in the bars and on Bumble or whatever...ohh, it's going public. So you can address it head-on, or you can let the press address it for you, which probably no one would recommend.

A couple people who know something about this are Jay Bakker, who is a progressive Evangelical that broke away from Jim Bakker's shxt legacy in the '00s. All this to say, the concept of being a private citizen is complicated when your parents are Evangelical conservatives in the public eye, and especially when you are a pastor's kid. There's really no such thing as "private." For Ms. Cruz, it's up to her to tell us her personal journey around this, if she's willing. But while Ted Cruz is not known for being an Evangelical, her grandfather, Rafael Cruz y Diaz, is one of the worst Cuban white-aspirant Evangelical commiebaiters, ever.

I remember. I supported her during that time, because I been there, believe that.

Also, this was during the time when the DLC-controlled Democratic Party platform formally did not support LGBTQ rights. That included all the highups, Obama, Hillary, and the rest, who were peddling "civil unions" and oh my goodness if we end Don't Ask Don't Tell we'll lose elections, other types of second-class citizenship. What an embarassment that it was the g.d. Cheneys who had a better position on LGBTQ rights than the Dems.

When we told them no, we will not accept second-class citizenship, we were cast as the radicals, the militants, and yur gunna scare away "the white working class" lmao as if "the white working class" doesn't have any LGBTQs fighting for equality. :problem:

Yeah but that is all the more reason to publicly come out, if possible. I mean...yes, what you said is exactly the point.

Heterosexuals never have to come out about their sexuality, ever. So I think it is hard for them to conceive of why formally coming out either publicly or privately is a big deal, especially if one has grown up in a notably far-right, anti-LGBTQ family.

Let me also just add...this notion that no one cares about the average person on the street's sexuality is false. Even if your parents aren't famous, or famous rightwing nutjobs, people care very much about your perceived sexuality.

Being out and LGBTQ affects your employment, your housing, whether you can adopt or foster a kid, where or whether you can even do something a simple as express affection with the person you're with.

Take it from somebody who lives in eye of the storm of Ground Zero of LGBTQ Rights in the known universe. There are only a couple streets in a couple neighborhoods I can go in my own city where I can simply hold hands with someone perceived as the same sex as me, and not get my head bashed in. This is not an exaggeration, or some interesting abstract issue to bandy about on the internet.

This is a matter of individual, personal safety for me and whoever I'm out with.

Heterosexuals overally really still don't get this about basic living as a queer person, where your perceived gender or sexuality can still get you murdered.

Anyone in doubt can ask any of their LGBTQ friends about their own coming out processes, including your millenial and GenZ LGBTQ kids and grandkids.

This envicornment is a somewht comparable environment people my age and younger than you came out in. Difference is, for Ted Cruz's daughter's generation, they do have 60 years of LGBTQ rights acivism to fall back on.

Don't kid yourselves that "nobody cares" about the average young person's stated sexualities.

Exactly, and that was the point I was trying to make but you said it better. I have no doubt Cancun Teddy will say he loves his daughter and that this is a private matter all the while voting against any protections or equality for LGBQT.
