....'it would deny congress ability to change any of it.'...

thats about as corporate as it gets. how could wallst top that?....

i guess they could mow us all down like in terminator...

It's called Fascism. Mussolini would be so proud.

Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power”

President Obama sells the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, claiming it will provide livable wage jobs, boost the economy, provide environmental protections and countries that violate human rights in the work place will be found in violation of breaking the agreement. He doesn't go into specifics and no one in the public sector (accept what we've read via WikiLeaks) has yet to see it.

I provide written commentary throughout this edited version of his speech. Link to the original found at the beginning.

trade agreements. agreements between the, ever morphing, conglomerate corp(S)
to make money, profit, moolah. the more mergers the more money they got to make.
thats why they got to go global....to make more money...cuz they dont got enough
and they cant squeeze anymore out of middle amurica.

driving across the west i see more boarded up dilapidated 'towns' along the road.
about 35-40years ago someone convinced some, senior citizens id guess, that coming to
live in 'rural nevada' along with other seniors buying these manufac homes would
build a town, a community.
most of these places now are HOURS from Food, gas, med. i dont know how they did it then
and those trying to stick it out in these places i dont know how they do it now.
there are a few of those trying to stick it out, in fact the RV parks on the Other Side
of the hwy are chock Full of year round skirted-bottom-rv people.
...i gather they lost the manufac, bought the rv and moved across the road.

the Only "new" you see along I80 is casino shit. casino meals casino rooms casino gas
casino-give-us-your-money are aplenty but only in the mostest large towns like
winnemucca or elko. the rest of allyall nevadans can go fuk yo'selves.

the BLM land across the west is completely and totally 1000% devastated.
with this bit of rain the sagebrush will blossom this year. there is no grass
no creeks running even as drainage off the bigger mts. i did see some snow
collect on these hills...spring is not all lost in these parts for now.

there is nothing like Millions of acres of healthy thick sagebrush to replace native
grasses and cedar forests.
this NV area was at one time massive cedar forest area, i didnt know that.
now there are just cedar bushes and sage brush.

cattlemen used and abused ALL this land. ALL of it. Every bit.
it was bad enough the spanish under Onate grazed MILLIONS of sheep for 100's of years
then you get these anglo cattle boys on the land for 100years...shit damn its all wasted.

all thats left across the west are empty buildings large and small.
one after another commercial enterprise that raised a small town or area,
all boarded up, all gone.
old loons on SS left living in these old manufacs near dried up towns since there
is nowhere else to go.

our pols only pay attention to city folks....no one even notices whats happening outside
the cities.

this land this country is a really bad 4th hand store.

Your post makes me think of a film I watched recently called Zeitgeist: Moving Forward. There's a segment about the reality of our capitalist system and the vicious cycle of consumerism, producing and labor. There's a reason manufacturers don't build anything to last. If they did, their profits would dry up.

It's just the opposite of economics. Economy coming from economize. We use up and use up and use up and deplete. They make more profit. Hence, our system is not sustainable.

We need to go from an economic monetary system to a sustainable system. If and when the human race ever tires of acquisition, ownership, and greed, we will need to utilize the planet's resources to continuously sustain us, thus ending poverty and hunger.

But the big boys with the big bucks aren't going to relinquish their stranglehold anytime soon.

slots.
the weird thing about nevada to me was how the casino's managed to corner
EVERY slot machine in the state. at one time driving thru NV meant just about
any place you stopped for gas etc had a little parlor area, where you could stop
sit a bit and place some slots.
not that im a big slot player, but each time you drove thru NV it was fun to get some
gas pee and play some slots.

somehow....the corp/vegas crowd has taken that over completely. NO independent
owned small business has any slot machines.
no indie business person gets a chance to own a business and also get some
gambling money.

the casinos control all of nevada now, it seems.
any new construction is casino owned and operated.
the rest of nevada can fall to pieces.

Highlighting mine.

Yeah, my ex still has the refrigerator his parents bought new in 1949! Only thing I did to that fridge was replace the door gasket. Still runs great. Yeah, they quit making quality stuff that lasts. Gotta make that $$$$$$$$$$$$, to hell with the planet.

Since they legalized gaming machines in Montana, that's the way it is. Just about every place you stop has a couple machines or more.

If it happens, it will be Obama's legacy. He'll be remembered for that, plus the unconstitutional fast track authority, instead of ACA and keeping us out of at least 3 wars.

Same way Clinton is remembered for foisting NAFTA on us and destroying the American working class.

This one makes NAFTA look like a simple little treaty. It makes life more difficult, more expensive, and less free for every single person in the American 99%.

Does the Democratic Party really want to be associated with these two disasters for the next generation or two?

As you know, I love dystopia fiction. One book I read last year called "Collapse," dealt with the aftermath of an economic collapse. Families that were once considered middle and upper class were now sharing spaces in public parks and lands called "Obamacamps."

Well, now I know how Senator Cantwell feels.

Thank you for contacting me regarding Trade Promotion Authority. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue.

Trade supports almost 12 million American jobs and more than one million jobs in Washington state. Our agriculture and food industry generates $49 billion and employs more than 160,000 people. Wheat alone accounts for more than $1 billion in production value, with 80 to 90 percent exported each year. Our aerospace industry supports nearly 140,000 jobs and exports approximately $60 billion, and our computer software and IT services industry, which supports more than 90,000 jobs, exports $16 billion.

Given the importance of trade to our state's economy, I have consistently supported efforts to expand market access for Washington state products. 95 percent of the world's consumers and 80 percent of the world's purchasing power reside outside the U.S. Each year, the number of foreign customers of U.S. products grows.

According to the World Trade Organization, there are more than 400 regional and bilateral trade agreements in effect around the world - and many more being negotiated. By comparison, the United States has only 14 free trade agreements with 20 countries. Since 2007, when Trade Promotion Authority last expired, Japan, the European Union, China and Canada have together executed over 30 trade deals. I do not want to see American companies losing market share to other countries that have trade agreements in place.

I firmly believe, however, that any trade agreement must ensure fair competition for domestic industries and requires trading partners to adopt labor standards and environmental protections. Further, an active trade policy must be accompanied by expanded educational and job-training opportunities to better prepare our workforce, including workers displaced by trade, to meet the challenges of the global economy.

On April 16, 2015, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) introduced the Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015 (S. 995). If enacted, this legislation would renew Trade Promotion Authority for four years, with an option for an additional three-year renewal. It also includes enforceable negotiating objectives that would require U.S. trade agreements to ensure strong labor, environmental, intellectual property standards, and, for the first time, require prospective trade partners to protect human rights. The legislation also creates a new mechanism to withdraw TPA procedures, should any trade deal fail to meet these standards.

This legislation was referred to the Senate Finance Committee, on which I serve, and was considered by the Committee on April 22, 2015. During that session, I offered several amendments which were approved by the committee, including a new measure to require employers to report occupational data to expand understanding of the labor market as international trade increases, and identify the skills in highest demand within particular industries. I also offered an amendment to significantly increase funding for the enforcement of our free trade agreements by creating a new, $30 million enforcement and capacity building fund to ensure our trading partners uphold their commitments. I was also proud to support several amendments to further protect our environment, prevent human trafficking, provide for equal pay, defend Buy American provisions, and remove investor state dispute settlement as a negotiating objective.

The Committee also considered a reauthorization of the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. I am a strong supporter of Trade Adjustment Assistance, which provides income support and job training services to workers who have lost their jobs due to foreign trade and shifting production outside the United States. In FY 2013, an estimated 2,715 Washington workers received TAA benefits and services, including 2,198 Washington workers who participated in training. TAA helps workers access the skills training and income support they need to get back into the workforce. Please be assured that I will consider your opinions as my colleagues and I continue to discuss Trade Promotion Authority and Trade Adjustment Assistance.
Thank you again for contacting me to share your thoughts on this matter. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,
Maria Cantwell
United States Senator

I'm assuming she read the entire deal. Judging for what's been leaked to the public, most of it doesn't deal with trade. And all I can do is just shake my head about enforcing rules regarding human rights. After the passage of NAFTA, we saw our wages stagnate and our hours increase with little room for negotiations. You work the overtime or guess what? You're the first one to be let go when layoffs start.

Putting on my tinfoil hat for a moment. Me thinks a lot of these trade deals are a way of putting more people in prison for minor offenses like copyright violations, labor strikes, and political protests.

the frightening aspect of these "deals" is just that: they are deals cut in rooms we dont see.
if anyone thinks ANY president isnt made to be part and parcel of this corruption you are foolish.
they seem to give us a decent prez now and then, they find one who can appease the population
either to the right or the left and they continue to pillage.
its a figurehead position not much diff from a monarchy, not a throne bloodline but a money one.

the corporatizing of governments is like a fungal disease.

the sawatchMts thru utah...have been desecrated to the dirt.
these fucking corps have stripped this huge country of its native trees.
theyve done the same to the fuckin rockyMts too; they have been busy little beaver killers.

Congressman Alan Grayson lays it out. Video and a couple charts. Saw this on today's Thom Hartmann show.

Free Trade? More Like Fake Trade
Quote:
Americans are creating tens of millions of jobs in other countries with our purchasing power, and we are losing tens of millions of jobs in our country, because foreigners are not buying as much of our goods and services.

What are they doing? They’re buying our assets. So we lose twice. We lose the jobs, and we are moving further toward national bankruptcy. That is the end game.

it is petrified. it has flint and crystal and diff color Rock Inside its large rings.
ive never been this close to something like that
but more shocking is Where it came from. the mexican border.

Grayson is one of the few congressmen who took the time to read the TPP. I hope he runs for president. That would really make things interesting! :)

when people like Sanders run its more about getting ideas on the table, out in the open,
and force others to deal with it.

Ed Schultz had another great segment on the TPP tonight.

http://www.msnbc.com/the-ed-show/watch/ ... 2320451615

Obama met with execs from Nike, a company known for their human rights violations. Obama keeps talking about having a level playing field and we're writing the rules. But what exactly does he mean by "level playing field" and who exactly is writing the rules?

If Obama thinks this trade deal will make Nike come into the U.S., how are we going to compete with the obscene wages workers in Indonesia get? As Ed called this segment, it's a "race to the bottom."

I love it when democrats show some spine.

http://crooksandliars.com/2015/05/senat ... fast-track

BREAKING NEWS: Senate votes, 52-45, to block Obama on trade. The vote prevents the start of debate on a measure that would have given the administration authority to negotiate freely with other countries.

Saw that earlier. I guess there was 1 Democrat that voted for it. Don't know who that was.

Bernie Sanders warns that promises about free trade deals being good for workers and the economy are just that--promises. Pres. Obama met with execs from Nike to promote the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership), a company that exploits and abuses their workers in Vietnam. When corporations that outsource jobs, pharmaceutical companies, and greedy Wall Street bankers like and want this deal, it can only mean it would be a disaster for everyone else.
