From the rumors i've been reading, Snowden and Segal would be an improvement over the present Russian brass.
In other news, Musk's peace plan was received well by the Kremlin. Ukraine told him to get fucked.
Zelenskyy's hopes are running high. Word has it some think Ukraine has a good chance of getting this thing done in a couple months vs the predicted years most think it will take.

Isn’t it interesting that the GOP wants to cut funding to Ukraine, while Putin and RU state media now claim it will take two months to mobilize their new forces, and OPEC cuts oil production to assist Putin and the GOP, right at midterms?

US believes elements within Ukraine’s government authorized assassination near Moscow, sources say
https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/05/politics ... index.html
The US intelligence community believes that the car bombing that killed Darya Dugina, the daughter of prominent Russian political figure Alexander Dugin, was authorized by elements within the Ukrainian government, sources briefed on the intelligence told CNN.
The US was not aware of the plan beforehand, according to the sources, and it is still unclear who exactly the US believes signed off on the assassination. It is also not clear whether the US intelligence community believes that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was aware of the plot or authorized it.
But the intelligence finding, first reported by the New York Times, would seem to corroborate elements of the Russian authorities’ findings that the car bombing was “pre-planned.” Russia had accused Ukrainian nationals of being responsible for the attack, which Ukraine had strongly denied in the aftermath of the explosion.
[snip]
US intelligence officials believe that Dugina was driving her father’s car on the night she was killed, and that her father was the actual target of the operation, one of the sources said. Dugin is a Russian ultranationalist and philosopher who has been a fierce proponent of Russia’s war in Ukraine. A friend of Dugina also told the Russian state owned news outlet TASS shortly after the explosion that the car she was driving was her father’s.
Just days after Dugina’s death, Russian authorities accused a Ukrainian woman of remotely detonating explosives planted in Dugina’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and then driving through the Pskov region and into Estonia to escape.
[snip]
Dugina, who was 29 when she was killed, was a public figure in her own right and frequently appeared as a commentator on Russian TV networks pushing anti-West, nationalist narratives.
As CNN has previously reported, Dugina also ran an English- and Turkish-language website called United World International, which itself was part of a broader propaganda effort known as “Project Lakhta.” The State Department has accused Project Lakhta of deploying online “trolls” to interfere in US elections.
The US sanctioned both Dugin and Dugina after Russia’s invasion in February, accusing them of spreading propaganda and acting to destabilize Ukraine.

Saudi Arabia is raising oil prices for US buyers, following a similar move a month ago.
Meanwhile, state-run Saudi Aramco lowered prices in Europe and left them largely unchanged for the Asian market.
The price moves come after OPEC+ slashed production quotas, which the White House said aligns the oil group with Russia.

i find that hard to believe. As well as the embarrassing leak from U.S. officials, British intelligence also gave Putin an unwelcome birthday surprise with a mind-blowing report on the staggering number of captured Russian tanks and armored vehicles currently being used by Ukraine.
“Repurposed captured Russian equipment now makes up a large proportion of Ukraine’s military hardware,” the report from the U.K.’s defense ministry said. “Ukraine has likely captured at least 440 Russian Main Battle Tanks, and around 650 other armored vehicles since the invasion. Over half of Ukraine’s currently fielded tank fleet potentially consists of captured vehicles.”

Russia-Ukraine War: Explosion on 12-Mile Crimea Bridge Kills 3 - NYT
Here’s what we know:
The blast, on the sole bridge linking the Crimean Peninsula with Russia, disrupted an important supply line for Russian troops and was an embarrassing blow to the Kremlin.
• Crimea’s Kerch Strait Bridge holds deep strategic, and symbolic, value.
• The damage to the bridge in Crimea hinders Russia’s military logistics.
• Russia names a new commander for the war in Ukraine.
• Four missiles strike Kharkiv in one of the most intense attacks in weeks.
• Ukraine’s Nobel Peace Prize winners urge solidarity among rights defenders.
• ‘Happy birthday, Mr. President’: Ukrainians celebrate the bridge blast with memes.
• The Crimea bridge explosion prompts calls for revenge from Russian hard-liners.
KYIV, Ukraine — A fireball consumed two sections of the only bridge linking the occupied Crimean Peninsula to Russia on Saturday, disrupting the most important supply line for Russian troops fighting in southern Ukraine and dealing an embarrassing blow to the Kremlin, which is facing continued losses on the battlefield and mounting criticism at home.
The blast and fire sent part of the 12-mile Kerch Strait bridge tumbling into the sea and killed at least three people, according to Russian authorities, who said a Ukrainian truck bomb had caused the blast.
The Ukrainian government, which applauded the damage, did not publicly take responsibility for the explosion. One senior Ukrainian official, speaking on condition of anonymity because of a ban on officials discussing the matter, said that Ukraine’s intelligence services had orchestrated the attack and that it involved a bomb loaded onto a truck that drove across the bridge.
It was unclear if the driver of the truck, who appeared to have died in the blast, was aware there were explosives inside. In video captured by a surveillance camera on the bridge, a huge fireball is seen. A small sedan and a tractor-trailer truck driving side by side appear at the epicenter of the blast.
For President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia, who presided over the bridge’s opening in 2018, the explosion was a highly personal affront, underscoring his difficulties in the face of continued Ukrainian successes.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — The exquisite golden tiara, inlaid with precious stones by master craftsmen some 1,500 years ago, was one of the world’s most valuable artifacts from the blood-letting rule of Attila the Hun, who rampaged with horseback warriors deep into Europe in the 5th century.
The Hun diadem is now vanished from the museum in Ukraine that housed it — perhaps, historians fear, forever. Russian troops carted away the priceless crown and a hoard of other treasures after capturing the Ukrainian city of Melitopol in February, museum authorities say.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine, now in its eighth month, is being accompanied by the destruction and pillaging of historical sites and treasures on an industrial scale, Ukrainian authorities say.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Ukraine's culture minister alleged that Russian soldiers helped themselves to artifacts in almost 40 Ukrainian museums. The looting and destruction of cultural sites has caused losses estimated in the hundreds of millions of euros (dollars), the minister, Oleksandr Tkachenko, added.

Oh, and one more thing. Mr. "Peacemaker" Musk (he also now has a "plan" for Taiwan) ... his Starlink service in Ukraine seems to be about as reliable as the Tesla self-driving mode.

Starlink issues are specifically related to the areas seized by Russia and now being repatriated. Starlink had shut down access to the area when Russia controlled. So it’s likely a matter of coordination and timing.

Elon Musk spoke directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin before tweeting a proposal to end the war in Ukraine that would have seen territory permanently ceded to Russia, it has been claimed.
In a mailout sent to Eurasia Group subscribers, Ian Bremmer wrote that Tesla CEO Musk told him that Putin was “prepared to negotiate,” but only if Crimea remained Russian, if Ukraine accepted a form of permanent neutrality, and Ukraine recognised Russia’s annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia
According to Bremmer, Musk said Putin told him these goals would be accomplished “no matter what,” including the potential of a nuclear strike if Ukraine invaded Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014. Bremmer wrote that Musk told him that “everything needed to be done to avoid that outcome.”
Last week, Musk posted essentially the same points on Twitter, although he suggested that the referendums in the annexed territories slammed as sham votes by Ukraine and the West be redone under supervision by the United Nations.

Elon Musk wades into China and Taiwan tensions - BBC
Beijing and Taipei have spoken out after Tesla chief executive Elon Musk said Taiwan should become a special administrative zone of China.
The world's richest man said in a Financial Times interview he believed the two governments could reach a "reasonably palatable" arrangement.
China's ambassador to the US praised Musk but his Taiwanese counterpart said freedom is "not for sale".
Taiwan rules itself but Beijing claims it as part of its territory.
Last week, Mr Musk also drew criticism for posting a Twitter poll with his suggestions for ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, including Kyiv giving up territory to Moscow.
Mr Musk's comments come as the electric car maker hit a monthly record for sales in China.

i'm sure there's important diplomats and military leaders that would say the same. Musk is neither.
For all we know it may have been at the request of those diplomats/leaders and Musk is taking the heat for them. It could very well be those leaders leaders know something the public doesn't. Crimea could be Putin's red line. To soon to say.

[bold]Speculation. Perhaps. Time will tell. But recently there have been problems. Last week, a senior Ukrainian government official told the Financial Times reported that the service was suffering "catastrophic" outages on the front lines, prompting speculation that it had been shut off in areas controlled by Russia — perhaps to prevent the Kremlin from exploiting the network.
On Twitter, Musk said he could not comment on battlefield conditions, saying, "That's classified." But Bremmer, the founder and president of the political-risk research firm Eurasia Group, said on Monday that in a conversation with Musk in late September, Musk appeared to confirm that the satellite service was being intentionally disabled.
Neither SpaceX nor Ukraine's ministry of defense immediately responded to requests for comment.
Me, the first articles out gave the impression Musk maybe screwing with Starlink on other fronts. Which would line up with Musk's so called peace plan to give Putin other parts of east Ukraine......shut off in areas controlled by Russia
