If it requires certified government (Medicare) approval and a contract between the plan providers and Medicare then Medicare is very, very, involved.
Medicare has been contracting with these companies since 1966. These healthcare companies process all Medicare claims. The government (Medicare) doesn’t process payments.

So. The obvious. 48%, and that number grows year by year, have Medicare Advantage. And there is no hew and cry from those policy holders. They get dental, eye, drugs, and additional cost coverage in addition to traditional Medicare. In some instances the fee for Advantage is covered by the Medicare fee that is no longer automatically taken from their social security check. Some do pay a small additional fee. For this they get the additional coverage that, I would roughly estimate, the 20% of us who have a retirement healthcare plan get.
By the way. Variations of the advantage plans have been in effect since the 1970s.

Actually there HAS been a hue and cry. As I mentioned, my first link in the OP showed how much they've been sued, and the government has caught 8 of 10 overbilling.Bludogdem wrote: ↑Sun Oct 16, 2022 8:27 am So. You haven't responded to either of the articles, you've just posted bullshit corporate-paid crap about how great they are. Obviously you've got money in their stock, don't you?

I pointed out that the 85,000 potential problem transactions represent less than .o1% of transaction activity. Not a hew and cry from the government nor those holding the policies. Everyone I know with an advantage plan finds it satisfactory.

People are being ripped off. Many are seniors who don't know they are getting ripped off. Why Medicare Advantage Plans are bad:
The BEST Medicare coverage is to take basic Medicare plus a Medigap plan. Stay away from Medicare Advantage. It's a corporate ripoff. There are several reasons why beneficiaries may feel Medicare Advantage plans are bad. Some policyholders can provide a list of disadvantages, while others might be satisfied with their Medicare Advantage coverage. Based on who you ask, the answer to this question varies.
Overall, many Medicare Advantage policyholders do not like the plans because they thought they were free. Even without a monthly premium, most beneficiaries spend more out-of-pocket on a Medicare Advantage plan than they would on a Medicare Supplement plan.
Common Medicare Advantage plan disadvantages include:
If you enjoy traveling, prefer going to any doctor or hospital you wish, want to keep out-of-pocket costs low, do not want your benefits to change, and do not want the hassle of getting a referral, a Medicare Advantage plan is probably not for you.
- Coverage does not travel with you
- Small networks of doctors
- High out-of-pocket maximum
- Plan benefits change annually
- The constant need for referrals and approvals
Often, the most significant complaint of all is the small network of doctors and hospitals Medicare Advantage plan beneficiaries can visit. Since not all doctors accept Medicare Advantage plans, it can be challenging to find the right doctor who takes your plan, leading to a delay in care.

They’re an insurance brokerage firm wanting to sell you insurance. Likely an advantage plan.
Medigap is insurance from the same private companies that sell advantage plans. Except no dental, eye, or drug coverage.

“After I retire, I will be eligible for RETIREE COVERAGE from my former employer (or from my spouse’s former employer).
If you are planning to take retiree coverage from a former employer, you should enroll in both Part A and B. Most retiree insurance requires you to have both Part A and Part B to get coverage.”

Re: Medicare Advantage = Corporate Ripoff
If Medicare Advantage is so bad why do 28 million Medicare eligible people, out of 58 million Medicare eligible people use it. And why do my friends who have say it works fine.
Re: Medicare Advantage = Corporate Ripoff
Because companies spend a lot of money convincing unsuspecting and trusting seniors that they should buy their crap. They don’t mind ripping them off. That’s what corporations do.

Depends if they get sick or not. And only 2/3rds are happy - a third aren’t.
Plus most of them are scamsters and lost lots of lawsuits. See my links in the opening posts.
Best to get Medicare and a medigap plan. Glenn’s smart enough he won’t touch Medicare Advantage.
I saw a commercial today locally during a football game hawking a Medicare Advantage plan that had zero copays. I noted they didn’t mention the out-of-pocket expenses, which should be noted up front, but it wasn’t. Classic insurance scam.

Then why did you ask this stupid question?
“ And they don’t require you to sign up for Medicare? If you say they do you’re full of shit.”
