The Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist who published a portion of Donald Trump’s 2005 tax form in 2017 explained on MSNBC how the bombshell New York Times report on the president’s taxes shows an ongoing threat to America.

David Cay Johnston was interviewed by MSNBC’s Chris Matthews shortly after the story broke on Tuesday.

NY state Senate passes bill allowing Congress to get Trump tax returns

The New York state Senate on Wednesday passed a bill that would make it easier for Congress to obtain President Donald Trump's state tax returns, advancing a bill that Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said he will sign if it reached his desk.

The bill, called the TRUST Act, passed by an 39 to 21 vote. The bill would amend state law to permit the state Department of Taxation and Finance commissioner to release any state tax return requested by the leaders of the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee or the Joint Committee on Taxation for any "specific and legitimate legislative purpose." Existing laws generally prohibit such a release.

Trump officials target authority of judges to issue national injunctions

Vice President Pence on Wednesday announced that the administration will challenge the ability of federal district court judges to issue nationwide injunctions that halt policies advocated by President Trump.

The administration's move — aimed at pushing back at unfavorable decisions from lower courts across the country — would set the stage for a vast legal debate and battle over the role that national injunctions play in the courts.

well stated.

'Trump is an open book. He's either committing crimes in plain sight or he's projecting his crimes on his opponents.'

Florida spa operator linked to Trump under federal investigation for possible campaign finance violations: report

On Thursday, the Miami Herald reported that Li “Cindy” Yang, the Republican donor and operator of a chain of Asian-themed massage parlors in South Florida, is under federal investigation.

Prosecutors are reportedly looking into whether Yang, a naturalized American citizen with extensive connections to Chinese businessmen, illegally funneled Chinese money into President Donald Trump’s election campaign.

Key House Democrat issues subpoenas for Trump's tax returns

(CNN) House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal has issued subpoenas for President Donald Trump's tax returns, the committee told CNN on Friday, an escalation in the fight for the President's personal financial records and the latest step this week in Democrats' battle for information from the Trump administration.

Neal sent subpoenas to both IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin. A Treasury spokesman confirmed to CNN it has received Neal's subpoena request.

Just what the world doesn't need. :problem:

Trump plans to hijack the annual 4th of July fireworks on the Mall celebration and make himself the featured attraction: report

President Donald Trump plans to hijack the traditional 4th of July celebration at the National Mall and transform it into a Trump-influenced event, according to a report from The Washington Post.

The event “A Salute to America,” will break the tradition of having a “nonpartisan celebration” and might serve more as “Trump campaign rally.”

I really hope not.

3 Dark and Disturbing Reasons Why Trump Could Win Again

It seems absurd to believe that America could make the same mistake again, to elect an ignorant and vulgar narcissist to the most powerful position in the world. But we can't underestimate the ability of the self-serving super-rich to convince millions of Americans that a surging stock market and a powerful military are essential to their livelihoods. All at the expense of jobs and health care and education.

There are at least three good reasons—strangely and sadly enough—why Trump could win again.

Stonewalling is now the new "winning" formula for Trump & the GOP.

White House takes stonewalling to new level

The Trump White House on Wednesday took its stonewalling of Congress to a new level.

The Washington Post’s Rachael Bade reports that the White House has told the House Judiciary Committee that it is “instructing folks not to comply with the doc requests sent to 81 Trump allies and affiliates” by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) earlier this year.

Trump-loving Proud Boys announce they’re suing a civil rights organization for ‘slander’

The far-right Proud Boys organization has announced that it will be suing the Southern Poverty Law Center for allegedly “slandering” its members.

Daily Beast reporter Will Sommer attended a Proud Boys press event at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Monday and found that the group’s members had unveiled a new campaign called “Stop the Slander” aimed at hitting back at people who allege the organization has ties to white supremacists.

Should add that the folks who are show fans compare Trump most often to the GoT character "Mad King Joffrey" ...

From the GoT Wiki ...

Joffrey was an extremely ruthless, cruel, arrogant, sadistic, malicious, egotistical, remorseless and tyrannical ruler even by the standards of his times. He immensely enjoyed indulging in the agony of others and played barbarically vicious 'games' with them (for example, giving a man a choice between losing his hands or his tongue) and even joyously speculating serving Sansa Stark the head of her brother Robb at his wedding feast. However, he was also incompetent, unintelligent, naive, impulsive, petulant, extremely cowardly, and prone to rash outbursts of violence when angered, frightened or even mildly slighted. Much like earlier Targaryen kings, it was suspected that Joffrey's sociopathic behavior was a result of his incestuous bloodline (though his sister and brother both were of a kinder disposition) as well as being intensely sadistic, Joffrey was consumed by megalomaniacal delusions of grandeur, even though he was absurdly unskilled at ruling, making far more problems than he solved (though he was literally unable to recognize this and unapologetic for doing so).

[snip][end]

Nuff said. :D

Democratic states, counties, sue Trump admin over religious protections rule

A coalition of 23 Democratic-led states, counties and municipalities is suing the Trump administration for a final rule that protects health care providers who refuse to provide care on the basis of their religious beliefs.

The lawsuit, announced Tuesday, is led by New York Attorney General Letitia James (D), and seeks to have the rule declared unconstitutional, as well as a court order to prevent it from going into effect.
