24 immigrants have died in ICE custody during the Trump administration

In April, a 54-year-old immigrant from Mexico died after several feverish days in a solitary cell. In May, a 21-year-old man from India hung himself in an Arizona jail. On June 1, a 25-year-old asylum seeker named Johana Medina Leon died in a Texas hospital after nearly six weeks in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The deaths of three ICE detainees since April, along with the release of several internal and watchdog reports documenting dismal conditions at ICE detention centers, have prompted an outcry from advocates who say the Trump administration is pushing growing numbers of immigrants into a detention system ill-equipped to care for them.

Trump Asserts Executive Privilege On Census Docs Sought By House Dems

President Trump asserted executive privilege over key documents related to the administration’s effort to add a citizenship question to the census, the Department of Justice said Wednesday morning.

The documents had been subpoenaed by the House Oversight Committee in April. The announcement of the invocation of executive privilege came just as the committee was beginning a meeting to vote on recommending that Attorney General Bill Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross be held in contempt for defying the subpoena.

Trump Has Received Money from 22 Foreign Governments

“Representatives of at least 22 foreign governments appear to have spent money at Trump Organization properties, an NBC News review has found, hinting at a significant foreign cash flow to the American president that critics say violates the U.S. Constitution.”

Sue Really.

Trump is telling aides he will ‘sue’ Democrats if they pursue impeachment: report

Democrats in the House of Representatives continue to be sharply divided on whether or not they should pursue impeachment of President Donald Trump. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi remains adamantly opposed to impeachment, while lawmakers ranging from Rep. Maxine Waters to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are very much in favor of it. And President Trump, according the Washington Post, is claiming that he will “sue” Democrats if they pursue impeachment.

In the Post, Ashley Parker reports that Trump says he will turn to the U.S. Supreme Court if Democrats try to impeach him — and in addition to that, he has privately told aides and advisers he will “sue” them. Parker’s report is based on conversations with around 15 Trump associates, who range from White House aides to outside advisers. Trump has also publicly threatened a lawsuit against Democrats, and according to Parker, he makes that threat often in private conversations.

The only reason Trump cares about foreign intel is to get ‘his son off the hook’: Counterintelligence expert

Counterintelligence expert and 20-year intelligence veteran Malcolm Nance agreed that it’s open season on foreign governments meddling in the United States election.

The moment came after President Donald Trump said in an ABC interview with George Stephanopoulos that the FBI was “wrong” to claim that candidates should report it if a foreign entity offers them dirt on an opponent during an election. The president has tried to turn it around to say that he was talking about meeting with foreign officials.

California’s Democrats split on Trump impeachment, poll finds

WASHINGTON — Much like their elected representatives, California Democrats are divided sharply over whether Congress should move to impeach President Donald Trump, a new poll shows.

Trump remains deeply unpopular in the nation’s largest state, with its heavily Democratic electorate, according to the new Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll, conducted for the Los Angeles Times.

Wow, it was in the news: Golan Heights: Israel unveils 'Trump Heights' settlement

:|

I looked up "Golan" to see what the meaning behind the word was.

Examples of golan in a Sentence:

Donald Trump: "Our prayers are with our friends in Golan Heights as they carry out an incredible way of life in the face of great terror."

Benjamin Netanyahu: "Jared Kushner brought me the updated map that includes Golan Heights within Israeli sovereignty -- here is the signature of President Trump and he writes here' Nice,'."

Nice! :|

Trump is a Salamander, when I was a kid we called them water dogs. I remember an abandoned septic tank the lid had collapsed, it was filled with water and water dogs. << That's an example sentence too. :)

What a shock. Trump Heights is as fake as anything else Donald has put his name on.

Israeli Town Named After Trump Appears to be Fake News
https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/isra ... -fake-news

The founding of the town of “Trump Heights” (Ramat Trump) was greeted with great fanfare. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and American Ambassador David Friedman held a deluxe ceremony to celebrate the new town in the Golan Heights which President Trump officially recognized as part of Israel earlier this year. Trump himself thanked Israel for the honor in a celebratory tweet.

[snip]

But according to an article in the Israeli daily Ha’aretz and multiple reports in the Israeli press, it’s more Potemkin village than Trump Heights. No actual town or village has actually been founded at all. It appears to be little more than a PR stunt to curry favor with the President who continues to openly support Netanyahu as the country moves toward new elections in September. No money has been budgeted for the new town. Nor is there specific location. Indeed, there’s no commitment to build a town at all. The decision will be left to the government that takes power after the next election. In the words of Israeli journalist Barak Ravid: “A settlement by the name of “Trump Heights” or “Ramat Trump” doesn’t exist. It my exist in the future but the Israeli cabinet still hasn’t even decided to do it. For now there’s only a sign.“

The head of the Golan caucus in the Israeli Knesset, Zvi Hauser went even further: “Anyone who reads the fine print of the ‘historic’ decision understands that this is a conceptual decision. There is no funding. There is no planning. There is no location and there is really no committed decision.”

The ceremony seems to be an effort to further burnish the current government’s bond with President Trump who loves nothing more than a ribbon cutting ceremony with his name is shiny gold lettering. The decision to build a town may be taken later. Or it may never happen at all. For Trump the fine print doesn’t seem to matter.

[snip][end]

All smoke, and some cracked mirrors.

Russian-American businessman at heart of Trump Tower Moscow project will testify to Congress on Friday

On Wednesday, the Washington Post reported that Felix Sater, the Russian-American real-estate developer at the center of the proposal to build a Trump Tower project in Moscow in 2016, will testify before the House Intelligence Committee in a closed-door hearing on Friday.

Sater, in addition to working on the planning for Trump Tower Moscow, escorted Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. to Russia during the preliminary stages of the project, which never came to fruition.

Trump says it's wrong US soccer star Megan Rapinoe protests during national anthem

President Donald Trump said Monday that he doesn't believe it's appropriate for U.S. women's soccer star Megan Rapinoe to protest during the national anthem, as she has in the years leading up to, and including, the World Cup.

"No, I don’t think so," Trump told The Hill.

"Ravelry is a free site for knitters and crocheters."

Quote:
New Policy: Do Not Post In Support of Trump or his Administration
Sunday, June 23rd 2019

We are banning support of Donald Trump and his administration on Ravelry.

This includes support in the form of forum posts, projects, patterns, profiles, and all other content. Note that your project data will never be deleted. We will never delete your Ravelry project data for any reason and if a project needs to be removed from the site, we will make sure that you have access to your data. If you are permanently banned from Ravelry, you will still be able to access any patterns that you purchased. Also, we will make sure that you receive a copy of your data.

We cannot provide a space that is inclusive of all and also allow support for open white supremacy. Support of the Trump administration is undeniably support for white supremacy.

Policy notes:

You can still participate if you do in fact support the administration, you just can’t talk about it here.
We are not endorsing the Democrats nor banning Republicans.
We are definitely not banning conservative politics. Hate groups and intolerance are different from other types of political positions.
We are not banning people for past support.
Do not try to weaponize this policy by entrapping people who do support the Trump administration into voicing their support.
Similarly, antagonizing conservative members for their unstated positions is not acceptable.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne Slam Trump Over Unauthorized Use of ‘Crazy Train’

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne denounced President Donald Trump’s unauthorized use of “Crazy Train” in a Twitter video the president posted mocking the 2020 Democratic primary candidates.

The video, posted Thursday morning, opens with footage of the technical difficulties that marred Wednesday’s first Democratic primary debate and pairs it with the intro to Osbourne’s 1980 hit. Eventually, the video fades to black and reemerges with footage of Trump walking up to a podium.

House Democrats sue Trump administration in effort to secure president's tax returns

WASHINGTON — House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal filed a lawsuit in federal district court against the IRS and the Treasury Department on Tuesday to secure access to President Donald Trump’s tax returns, a committee spokesman said.

The move, which came amid a weeklong congressional holiday recess, followed a monthslong battle with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and the IRS over the tax records. Mnuchin has repeatedly denied Democrats’ requests for the financial documents, which Neal initially requested in April.

Trump administration sends out notices of $500,000 fines for those in U.S. illegally

The Trump administration is seeking to fine some immigrants in the United States illegally, hundreds of thousands of dollars for failing to take steps to leave after being ordered to do so, according to government documents obtained by NPR.

The Department of Homeland Security sent out a batch of notices across the country to targeted individuals ordering them to pay fines of up to nearly $500,000 for "failing to depart the U.S. as previously agreed," among other factors.

Judge abruptly schedules Census hearing after Trump tweets he may ignore court on citizenship question

U.S. District Judge George Hazel in Maryland on Wednesday scheduled a last-minute hearing on whether a citizenship question will be included in the U.S. Census. The move came just hours after President Donald Trump said that he may ignore a decision not to print the question.

On Tuesday, a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed that the Census would be printed without the citizenship question. But Trump later called that “fake news” and suggested that he would move forward with the citizenship question.

Watch him blow a lid over this.

Trump's 4th of July event cost Pentagon $1.2 million

The Pentagon estimates it cost $1.2 million for the military's participation in the July Fourth "Salute to America," which included flyovers by military aircraft and the presence of Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles by the Lincoln Memorial.

During the Salute to America event on the National Mall President Donald Trump highlighted the accomplishments of the military services individually and the specific aircraft representing each service. Participating in those flyovers were Air Force F-22 Raptor fighters and a B-2 Spirit bomber, Army Apache helicopters, Marine MV-22 Ospreys, Navy F-35C Lightning II fighters and F/A-18 Hornets and Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk and MH-65 Dolphin helicopters.

It's kind of a non-event, but it's definitely bad timing with other scandals swirling around. Probably doesn't need its own thread, so I'll just drop it here.

Strip club-sponsored golf tournament at Trump’s Doral resort is canceled
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/polit ... story.html

A strip-club sponsored golf tournament planned for this weekend at President Donald Trump’s Doral resort has been canceled amid a backlash against the event that featured dancers as caddies who could be reserved.
The Trump Organization released a statement Wednesday night that the event would no longer take place Saturday at Trump National Doral Miami because the nonprofit beneficiary had backed out.

[snip]

Shadow Cabaret, the Hialeah-based strip club planning the event, issued its own statement Wednesday night announcing it canceled the event because of “the climate” surrounding the tournament.

[snip]

The Washington Post broke the story Tuesday that Shadow Cabaret was putting on a charity golf tournament complete with dancers that golfers could reserve as “caddy girls.”

Emanuele Mancuso, the strip club’s marketing director, told The Post the dancers were to be clothed at the resort, but a “very tasteful” burlesque show was going to be held afterward at the cabaret.

The strip club’s advertisement featured the Trump family crest. A company spokeswoman told The Post the Trump Organization had not approved the advertisement before it was published.

[snip]

Prices for the Doral tournament spanned from $450 to $1,000 for a “play and stay" package that included a two-night stay at the resort, “1/2 hour VIP room” and bottle at the club.

[snip]

The Hialeah location features a “Scarface room, a classic touch of Miami style with a private shower, wet bar and portraits of Tony Montana," the website states. (*)

[snip][end]

(*)

Yeah, a stripping for the kiddies event at Trump's Doral resort ... not well timed. Even the charity they were raising money for, and complained about the event, is not properly registered.

I drive by that place all the time ... very tempted to throw eggs. (No, I wouldn't be dumb enough to barge in the place.)

Rep. Ruben Gallego calls for Donald Trump impeachment inquiry

Rep. Ruben Gallego, one of the more persistent critics of President Donald Trump in Congress, joined the growing list of House lawmakers calling for impeachment proceedings.

In his floor speech Thursday, the liberal Phoenix Democrat said Trump's refusal to cooperate with congressional investigations, as well as the allegations of sexual assault and other misdeeds required a response from the Democrat-controlled House.
