CANADIENS FIRE DUCHARME

Mired in the worst season in franchise history, the Montreal Canadiens have cleaned house once again.

The latest staff member to be sent packing is Dominique Ducharme, with DailyFaceOff's Frank Seravalli reporting that the Canadiens have fired the coach roughly halfway into the first year of the three-year extension they gave him over the summer.

‘Predator’ Gets 60 Years For Twice Raping 6-Year-Old Alton Girl

ALTON - A judge Wednesday sentenced sexual predator Keith L. Hare, 52, to 60 years in prison after a prosecutor argued Hare’s bad conduct began years ago and progressed to Nov. 16, 2019, when he contacted an Alton woman via the Internet and set up a “threesome.”

Assistant State’s Attorney Jake Harlow argued that a tape of the victim shortly after the crimes shows the damage Hare, a former police officer, had done. “You can clearly see she was shell-shocked. How can we expect a 6-year-old girl to recover after being sexually assaulted two times,” Harlow said in a sentencing hearing.

Republicans block bill to name post office after former progressive Rep. Woolsey

The House on Wednesday failed to pass a bill that would name a California post office after one of its own former members after most Republicans prevented it from advancing under a fast-track process.

The bill's failure is yet another example of the ever more partisan environment in the House, given that bills to name post offices typically pass handily, either by voice vote or nearly unanimously.

Ha! His own court turns their back on him.

Florida Supreme Court rejects DeSantis' redistricting push

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday shot down Gov. Ron DeSantis’s push to get the high court to rule on whether Rep. Al Lawson’s 200-mile congressional district linking Black neighborhoods must be kept intact during the state’s redistricting process.

The GOP governor wants to dismantle the north Florida seat held by Lawson, a Black Democrat, to make a redistricting map more friendly to Republicans. DeSantis asked the high court to give him an advisory opinion on whether the district was protected under Florida’s voter-approved standards.

Wisconsin Supreme Court allows ballot boxes to be banned for April election

The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled Friday that it will allow a ban on the use of ballot drop boxes for the upcoming April election, though the ruling will not affect primaries scheduled for next week, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

In a 4-3 ruling, the state’s high court allowed a ban that will prohibit ballot drop boxes from being used in the upcoming April election, upholding a lower court’s ruling from January, the news outlet noted.

Of course, this violent, fascist nazi attack on voting is something to behold. Cons are enemies of the human race and MUST be treated accordingly.
I sigh in your general direction.

Kathleen Rice’s retirement opens up another Long Island congressional seat

Long Island now has another open congressional seat after Rep. Kathleen Rice made a surprise announcement on Tuesday that she would not seek reelection, making her the third member of Congress from the island to give up their seat. That leaves just Rep. Andrew Garbarino (and technically Rep. Gregory Meeks) as the lone Long Island incumbent as lawmakers adjust to the new district lines.

Rice, who has represented the 4th Congressional District in Nassau County for seven years, had not given any indication that she would leave office, and privately more than one political observer told City & State they did not see the move coming. It now sets off a scramble to replace her in a year expected to be tough for Democrats, even with more favorable congressional lines in New York.

Nationals lifer Ryan Zimmerman retires

Ryan Zimmerman made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter following a storied 16-season career, all with Washington, with a letter that begins “Dear D.C.” and is signed by “Employee No. 11.”

“We have won together, lost together and, honestly, grown up together,” Zimmerman wrote. “We lost 100 games (twice), we won 90 games (four times), we moved into a new stadium, we failed to get out of the first round of the playoffs (four grueling times) and, of course, we experienced the magical World Series run of 2019 that no one will ever forget. Through all of the achievements and the failures you always supported me, and for that I will forever be grateful.”

Junior hockey player gets lifetime ban for punching referee

As fans, referees are often at the forefront of our qualms and complaints about our favourite sports. Players spend a lot of time arguing with referees about unfair or missed calls, further riling up those watching from the stands and at home.

But one thing that we can never condone is an assault on an official.

Cesaro is reportedly gone from WWE

Per PW Insider, Cesaro’s contract has expired and he is no longer with WWE:

“We are told the two sides had been in negotiations but had not come to terms on a new agreement. One source noted that WWE did offer Cesaro an extension on his current deal but that was turned down.

This would be a case of Cesaro’s contract expiring, so there would be no 90-day non compete. Cesaro had been slated to be at tomorrow’s Smackdown taping in Hershey, PA, but will obviously no longer be there as his deal expired earlier this week.”
