It is of overriding importance in any wartime situation that you not become inspired or fooled into passing disinformation. Here are some simple and intuitive tips on how to avoid becoming part of the problem. They were inspired by the crap circulating about covid but they work for Russian territorial grabs too.

Sad. Not sure what it has to do with this thread.

This is what Marianne is tweeting about.

We can debate from where to get trustworthy information. MHO: newswires are generally reliable.

Russia invades Ukraine in Europe's 'darkest hours' since WWII
https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/pu ... 022-02-24/

KYIV/OUTSIDE MARIUPOL, Ukraine, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Russian forces invaded Ukraine on Thursday, assaulting by land, sea and air in the biggest attack by one state against another in Europe since World War Two.

Missiles rained down on Ukrainian cities. Ukraine reported columns of troops pouring across its borders from Russia and Belarus, and landing on the coast from the Black and Azov seas.

Explosions were heard before dawn and throughout the morning in the capital Kyiv, a city of 3 million people. Gunfire rattled, sirens blared, and the highway out of the city choked with traffic as residents fled.

[snip]

U.S. President Joe Biden said he was praying for Ukrainian victims of an "unprovoked and unjustified attack". EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell said: "These are among the darkest hours of Europe since the Second World War."

[snip]

In an early-morning declaration of war, Putin said he had ordered "a special military operation" to protect people, including Russian citizens, subjected to "genocide" in Ukraine - an accusation the West calls absurd propaganda.

"And for this we will strive for the demilitarisation and denazification of Ukraine," Putin said. "Russia cannot feel safe, develop, and exist with a constant threat emanating from the territory of modern Ukraine...All responsibility for bloodshed will be on the conscience of the ruling regime in Ukraine." read more.

Biden has ruled out sending U.S. troops to defend Ukraine but he and other Western leaders promised tough financial sanctions.

"Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction this attack will bring, and the United States and its Allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive way," Biden said.

[snip]

World leaders expressed near universal outrage at the invasion, with China, which signed a friendship treaty with Russia three weeks ago, a notable exception. Beijing reiterated a call for all parties to exercise restraint and rejected a description of Russia's action as an invasion.

[snip][end]

China, IMHO, is carefully eyeing world reaction to this, as they continue to eye Taiwan.

Russia attacks Ukraine; peace in Europe 'shattered'
In unleashing Moscow's most aggressive action since the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, President Vladimir Putin deflected global condemnation and cascading new sanctions — and chillingly referred to his country’s nuclear arsenal. He threatened any foreign country attempting to interfere with “consequences you have never seen.”

Just an Historical Reminder.

February 24, 1991 - After weeks of airstrikes U.S.-Led Coalition Forces began the invasion of Kuwait.

Point taken.

I guess we don't need much further evidence of the disunity of our country, let alone its lack of civility, with people killing others at protests for racial justice.

But by far, the big problem is people being meanies on message boards. :|

BTW, back to main topic, is it not curious Putin has vowed to "de-nazify" Ukraine by, presumably, exerting "regime change" and/or overthrowing its democratically elected leader in Kyiv, who happens to be a Jewish comedian? I'd call Zelensky Ukraine's Jon Stewart, though I know the imperfections of the analogy.

I'd say it's incredible that this person has the nerve to appropriate the language of antifascism, but it's really not incredible. In this country it's mirrored by people like Ward Connerly who in the '00s termed his anti-AfAc bill a "Civil Rights" bill, and the current version with all these dumb MLK-quoting conservative whites suddenly wringing their hands about "racism" and "racism in the schools." :problem:

I've often wondered just how much of the disinformation about CRT, 1619, trans girls on the sports team, anti-public schools, etc., is being peddled by E. Euro troll farms. The Russian govt certainly has a stake in weakening this country, and thanks to the conservative whites who fall for this junk, they've got an inroad.

I don't wonder. I know that it's appreciable. I've seen plenty of documentation that links the kind of disinfo that spreads fastest on the net with Russian/ Eastern European/ North Asian troll farms. This wave crested in the first drumpf presidential campaign, and by the second one we were more onto it, but it never went away.

Note how much of the stuff in the 2016 campaign was supposedly put out by #BLM. All spoof. From Moscow with hate. Designed to get whites all riled up, and it worked. These people are good at it, and the best defense is to take everything on the net as unproven until verified from other more reliable channels.

It doesn't have to be state actors. They have plenty of Eastern European hackers and general nerds needing cash on the payroll.

I also don't trust crypto/NFT/Ether/cryptomining for a second. It's manipulated by Russia, China, and North Korea. They siphon off cash. Quite a bit of crypto that unsuspecting people have invested in has been depressed or outright stolen by these operations. It got so bad that even Russia had to banish the server farms to Kazakhstan.

Someone mentioned Chernobyl. Well, Russian meddling there is always a possibility, but they will also get most of the radiation.

Ward Connerlly, jezz that guy. He thought the Republicans would elect him. I mean he was Black, Republican AND ANTI-AFFIMATIVE ACTION. He was damn fucking desperate to be White.

Yeah another classic case of the only type of Black/nonwhite people conservative whites like. As extremist and nonviable as possible.

Ukraine claims 800 Russian casualties, 1 surrendered Russian platoon, in Day 1 of invasion

Ukraine's Defense Ministry said early Friday that since Russian invaded the country Thursday morning, Ukrainian forces have inflicted about 800 casualties on Russian forces (perhaps including wounded soldiers), destroyed more than 30 Russian tanks, seven Russian aircraft, and six helicopters, CNN reports, noting that it is "not able to independently verify Ukraine's figures."

The ministry claimed later Friday morning that Ukrainian air defenses had stopped "two deadly presents from our 'brothers'" from hitting Kyiv, and said Ukrainian forces had destroyed a bridge over the Teteriv river to keep approaching Russian armored units from reaching the embattled capital. Ukraine's Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper confirmed the bridge's destruction.

Venezuela supports Putin’s efforts to protect peace, says Maduro

BUENOS AIRES, February 23. /TASS/. The government of Venezuela fully supports Russian President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to protect peace in his country and region, President of the South American republic Nicolas Maduro said in a statement broadcast by state television on Tuesday.

"Does the world think that Putin will sit back and do nothing, not taking measures to protect his people? That is why Venezuela expresses its full support to President Vladimir Putin in his efforts to protect peace in Russia, in the region," he said.

So, I always had my suspicions this guy was full of shit. And now it's confirmed.

Ukraine is not Putin's country. Russian separatists were not in danger of genocide. False flag bullcrap. And he is not peacekeeping.

BTW, Maduro, you know he is no fan of socialism, either. Take a peek at his bank account.

Zelensky has feelers out for negotiations with Putin. Nothing firm from Putin yet.

Rumor has it, Russian operations are going on some 50(?) miles from Poland's border.
