DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
Because of the hurricane, Gov. DeSantis is issuing illegal edicts for voter access. I guess it’s okay if the GOP does it.
Hypocrites.

Yes you are he extended voting access for people affected by a natural disaster. Something you would support if it were a leftist governorgounion wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 10:33 am Because of the hurricane, Gov. DeSantis is issuing illegal edicts for voter access. I supported it in 2020 during the pandemic. Your side did not. It is illegal. And, the very idea came before the Florida legislature, and they voted it down.
Please explain why you’re not a complete hypocrite.

When in all of American history has there ever been "a leftist governor"?
Name three.

There is so much I could fault dePutin for, but this is not one of those things. It's never a bad idea to expand ballot access. Especially as a result of a natural disaster. Of course, it raises questions of favoritism when you only do it for certain counties, but in this situation, I think it's just the disaster.
Now that said, THIS act by deStupid really DOES piss me off:
How Ron DeSantis Blew Up Black-Held Congressional Districts and May Have Broken Florida Law

And, of course, looks like the state's courts will let him get away with it.
That and he illegally used state COVID-19 money for refugee human trafficking.

Idiots will say Jerry Brown, but he wasn't of course.

Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
There was one leftist governor that I can think of, but it was a long long time ago in an ideological galaxy far far away, well before I was born, and I don't remember his name. There have been a number of governors from what would now be called the moderate left. Mostly from the labor movement. That's how long ago it was, since there hasn't been a labor movement worthy of the name since Ronzo and his patricians from the club atop the Westwood high-rise busted the unions.

Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
The point of course is these cons, who think and act like children, still think there are socialists and commies running the DNC or voting in the party. Never have been, never will be. (might be a handful of radicals voting democratic but very few)ZoWie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 11:50 am There was one leftist governor that I can think of, but it was a long long time ago in an ideological galaxy far far away, well before I was born, and I don't remember his name. Now, if I was in charge of the world, very first thing I would do is make it impossible for any person or corp etal to own a part of Earth. It is absurd to think that someone like the Koch brother that is still alive could own Waikiki Beach. Or that Bezos could own Yosemite. But when you allow people or corps to buy REAL ESTATE aka EARTH, you create this situation.
ALL land would be leased by the collective. You could build your house on land leased for 99 yrs at a time with a renewal possible based on family ownership of the improvements.
I sigh in your general direction.
Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
Property rights are a complex matter. Ownership does not imply sovereignty, or at least it shouldn't. Right now groups like the "sagebrush rebellion" are trying to make property much more like sovereignty, where a person's land really is their own country to do with as they please and the laws of the relevant government don't apply.
The demands of modern government probably make these ideas rather quaint, and I don't see a lot of potential here. I'm a lot more worried about apathy, because it removes the check on the power of owners to influence leadership.

Doesnt it seem absurd to allow Jeff Bezos to own Mount Everest?ZoWie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 12:15 pm Property rights are a complex matter. Well you know what I think of Bezos, Musk, and the rest. At one time, they would have been countries in their own right, but times supposedly changed. The whole thing is wrapped up in that word "supposedly."
I have to go watch the committee hearings. There's a group trying to save America.

Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
This is getting way off topic, but the fact remains that Bezos can't buy Mount Everest. It's not for sale. Besides, it's in two different countries.
All I can find on the subject is that he said Elon Musk should try living on the summit before he touts the settling of Mars.
I personally think both of those robber barons should build a joint space venture, and head off to Mars with a one way ticket. Oh, and no radios either.
They'll need plenty of radiation shielding because otherwise humans can't live for long periods in that high a background level. Mars has no magnetic field to deflect charged particles and very little atmosphere to attenuate EM radiation or neutrons.

Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
I made up the Everest thing to make the point that anyone or any corp could by ANYTHING ANYWHERE if the authorities in that area allow it. We acknowledge that if cons get full control ALL national parks will be sold to their pals, of course. Extrapolate that out to the rest of the world.ZoWie wrote: ↑Thu Oct 13, 2022 3:31 pm This is getting way off topic, but the fact remains that Bezos can't buy Mount Everest. It's not for sale. The only reason we have federally owned or state owned lands is the rightwing hasnt achieved the kind of control that they might someday.

Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
Let's review
You were in favor of lax voting rules during the pandemic.
You are now for strict voting rules in Florida after the hurricane
And
Somehow that makes me a hypocrite. Such is liberal logic

No.
I'm just pointing out that the right was against ANY changes, and said they were illegal.
Now suddenly it's okay.
Just like it was wrong for the Congress to vote for money for disasters in blue states, but now that a red state Governor needs to re-elected, it's great to do.

This guy can’t wait to vote for a fascist and already votes for the most corrupt far-righters In Congress, calling himself some kind of swung voter.
We’re all commies here to him. So it’s doesn’t take much to label anyone to the left of Marjorie Taylor Greene “leftist.”
Actual “leftists” barely even exist as a constituency in this country, and never really has.

Re: DeSantis changing voting access in Florida
This is what your dirty bigots in Florida did under cover of the hurricane.
Contrary to the lies you tell yourself, yes there is a “don’t say gay” law and if you say it, you’ll get canned and replaced with somebody off the street with the word “veteran” by their name.
All as a pretext to further deplete the public schools you guys despise so much.

Fla. to strip licenses of K-3 teachers who discuss gender identity, sexuality - WP
Your party is full of dirty grifters. Why be one when you don’t have to?Florida plans to revoke or suspend the teaching licenses of elementary school educators who teach students about gender identity or sexuality, according to a new rule published by the state’s Department of Education.
The rule, proposed in August and approved by Education Commissioner Manny Diaz Jr. in September, is intended to enforce a 2021 state law that forbids instruction on gender identity and sexuality for children in kindergarten through third grade. The measure, the Parental Rights in Education Act, is known by opponents as the “don’t say gay” law.
The Florida Department of Education has done little to publicize its rule on teachers’ licenses. The rule appeared online around the same time that the state was taking damage from Hurricane Ian, which has left more than 100 dead. News of the rule was first reported Tuesday by the newsletter the Progress Report.

Joe Biden didn't win because people
suddenly had an urge to embrace the democratic party agenda. He won because of voters like me and Memphis who vote for the man not the party
Likewise if the democratic party wins the senate it will not be because voters suddenly embraced the democrats.
It will be because swing voters like me voted for the better candidate in states like
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Georgia
As opposed to voting for the party.

This is a lie you keep repeating to yourself, even though you don't even have to.
But then, you're dumb and uninformed enough to actually peddle Family Research Council stooges like Ralph Norman.
They stregnthened this law while Ian was battering the state.
Every major LGBTQ organization like Lambda Legal, GLAAD, Human Rights Campaign, Trevor Project, and others are telling you differently.
They know more about it than you, someone stupid enough to be a fascism-enabler.
Florida Families and Advocacy Groups Sue to Block the Florida Law Known as “Don’t Say Gay” - Lambda Legal
GLAAD AND EQUALITY FLORIDA RESPOND TO “DON’T SAY GAY” BILL AND OTHER BILLS IN FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TARGETING LGBTQ PEOPLE - GLAAD
Human Rights Campaign on DeSantis’s “Don’t Say Gay or Trans” Law Going into Effect, Targeting LGBTQ+ Youth and Turning Back the Clock on Equality - HRC
The Trevor Project Condemns Florida “Don’t Say Gay” Bill Targeting LGBTQ Students - Trevor Project
I hope the LGBTQ people in your family and in your environment are protecting themselves from your aggressions.
