Move Over, Corporate Democrats. A New Wave of Left Populists Is on the Rise.

It's 2018. Candidates don't need the establishment anymore.

IN SPRING 2016, a U.S. presidential candidate made the above prediction to Businessweek. That candidate was none other than Donald Trump, and he was speaking of the GOP. His words seem ludicrous, but Trump’s anti-corruption pose, populism and vaguely left-sounding economic rhetoric would ultimately take him all the way to the White House.

1) Trump ran on right populism, not left populism. If people can't tell the fundamental difference, this country is in trouble. Hint: as I've said all along, Bernie Sanders ran on left populism. Look at what he said about Trump.
2) How's that anti-corruption "pose" working out?
3) Maybe we need more than "vaguely" left sounding rhetoric - like actual progressive platform ideas.

See, this is why I don't like this argument coming from the Left. We should be arguing there was a problem than a con man and impostor won by giving fake lip service to (only some of) our ideas, and in many cases not properly understanding or articulating them. This shows the Left obviously wasn't doing a good job articulating them. (BTW: Bernie does that pretty well.)
