Democrat Landon faces Republican Armstrong for state representative

POCATELLO -- Rep. Randy Armstrong, R-Inkom, believes he compiled a record of fiscal responsibility during his first term in office and that the experience he gained during a long career as a financial advisor helped the state make wise budgeting decisions.

His Democratic opponent for Legislative District 28-A in the Nov. 6 election, Steve Landon, assures voters that his decades of experience as a union leader have prepared him for the position, and made him aware of issues that must be addressed affecting Idaho workers.

Crow, Isbell, Shires and More Slated for Party at the Polls Concert and March

The enormous number of elections in Nashville this year is a recipe for voter fatigue, but a variety of folks in the music world have been advocating for participation in a variety of ways — note the activity of groups like Please Vote Nashville, the Get Out the Vote Festival at The Basement East on Oct. 3 and Taylor Swift speaking out against Marsha Blackburn this past weekend, among many others.

A week from Saturday, on the morning of Oct. 20, a star-studded group of players will get together to highlight the start of early voting for the Nov. 6 midterm election, which includes races for Tennessee's governor and the U.S. Senate. Sheryl Crow, Jason Isbell, Amanda Shires, Lucie Silvas, Jonathan McReynolds and Gabriel Kelley will take the Ascend Amphitheater stage starting at 10 a.m. Five members of the March for Our Lives movement, which started following the deadly school shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., will be the event's unofficial emcees, and they'll be part of the half-mile march that will leave Ascend for the Howard Office Building, an early polling location, at 11 a.m.

Indiana Caught Illegally Purging 20,000 Voters – Are You One?

A team of database experts, statisticians, lawyers and investigators working with the Palast Investigative Fund discovered — and Indiana now admits — that these thousands of voters were cancelled in violation of a June 2018 federal court order that barred the state from using the notorious Interstate Crosscheck purge list sent to state officials by Kris Kobach, Secretary of State of Kansas.

The court order stemmed from a suit by the NAACP and League of Woman Voters against a 2017 Indiana law ordering counties to remove voters if they appear on Kobach’s list which purports to identify voters who have left the state. The NAACP and League cited the Palast team’s evidence in our 2016 Rolling Stone article showing that Crosscheck is overwhelmingly wrong in identifying voters who have moved — and extremely racist in operation.

The Register's endorsements for Congress: GOP has failed to govern; give Democrats a chance

When Republicans achieved the trifecta in 2016, winning the presidency as well as holding the House and Senate, it seemed the country was poised to move beyond the GOP-engineered partisan gridlock that had characterized much of the previous six years.

Americans had reason to expect action from Congress, for better or worse, on a variety of issues ranging from health care and immigration to reducing government overspending.

35 million voter records from 19 states found for sale on Dark Web

More than 35 million voter records have been found for sale in a Dark Web forum containing information on voters from 19 states with prices ranging from $150 to $12,500.

This information was tallied by Anomali Labs researchers working in conjunction with Intel 471 which reported the records contain voter data including full name, phone numbers, physical addresses, voting history, and other unspecified voting data. The researchers noted that 23 million of the records came from just three states, which they did not name, with the remaining 12 million divided up among the remaining 16 states.

This is why Duncan Hunter (R) needs to go. Three retired generals issued a letter that was circulated by Hunter's campaign claiming Hunter's Democratic opponent is a national security risk because he is a Palestinian Mexican-American. They claim that if he has access to secret information on military operations that would endanger is relatives in the Middle East he would compromise military operations to protect his family.

Quote:
Three retired generals have issued a letter to voters in Rep. Duncan Hunter’s congressional district claiming that his challenger — Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar — is a national security risk.

The generals were identified as retired brigadier general Terry Paul and retired major generals Randall West and T.L. Corwin. None responded to telephone messages on Monday.

“If Democrat candidate Ammar Campa-Najjar should get elected and sees secret information on U.S. military operations that would endanger members of his Najjar family in the Middle East, would he compromise U.S. operations to protect his relatives, the Najjars?” the letter says. “We would not bet the lives of our troops on the gamble. We hope you wouldn’t either.”

The retired generals who signed the letter are all registered lobbyists who have advocated for legislation before the House Armed Services Committee, which Hunter served on.

The link above also notes 70 national security experts signed a letter on behalf Campa-Najjar saying "Campa-Najjar, like all of us, has served his country as a public official and worked on behalf of his fellow citizens with dedication and honor. That’s precisely why the baseless allegation that he is somehow a ‘security threat’ is an affront to our professionalism as national security experts, our American values, and our collective national dignity.”

Florida voters: if you're not doing absentee/by mail, early voting starts Monday, October 22nd.

(That's 6 ... should I make a big icon of a 6? :D ... days from now.)

I can say in midterm elections, you probably won't have the huuuuugely long lines that are typical of presidential years. Still, may I recommend, do as I do, avoid any possible lines or congestion, be sure your vote is counted, vote early.

For the first time, my campus will be an early voting location. (Should have always been - but anyway.)

Early voting has already started in many other states. Yes, I know, Floriduh as always comes later to the party.

The Latest: Cruz, O'Rourke trade barbs in Senate debate

The Latest on the Texas Senate race debate between Republican incumbent Ted Cruz and Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke (all times local):

8:20 p.m.

Ted Cruz and Beto O'Rourke are wasting little time laying into each other in the second and final scheduled debate of a Texas Senate race that has become one of the country's hottest — even as polls suggest it may not stay close.
