NC voters 'fired up' for mid-terms, early voting through the roof

North Carolina voters are decidedly fired up to cast ballots in the 2018 mid-term election. Days ago, early voting totals surpassed the 2014 mid-term numbers and there's still one more day to early vote.

Whether it's to show approval or opposition to President Donald Trump or the contentious Constitutional Amendments on the ballot, whatever is fueling the voter surge could lead to North Carolina's highest voter turnout in a non-presidential year in decades.

Factbox: Midterm Elections 2018: Ballot initiatives and battlegrounds

Washington — With a full field of energy-related races and ballot initiatives galloping toward the finish line of the November 6 US midterm election, polling and speculation this week began to provide a clearer picture of the winners and losers among oil, natural gas and power market players.

Despite an aggressive late push by President Donald Trump to support Republican candidates, pollsters still expect the US House of Representatives to flip to a Democratic majority, which could complicate the president's regulatory rollback agenda. Also holding on to predicted leads were state ballot initiatives and gubernatorial candidates that figure to restrict oil and gas drilling in Colorado, Alaska, Florida and New Mexico.

Almost to the finish line - thank goodness.

We've been bombarded with a constant stream of negative ads for the last two weeks. There are only a couple of candidates running here in South Dakota that are talking about why they are running and what they hope to accomplish if elected. I think all of them are going to win with at least 60% of the vote.

A couple of the closer races that are sucking in out of state cash are too close to call and the candidates have invested heavily in negative ads. It's getting old fast.

Looking forward to it being over.

I'm aware of a kind of close governors race there and that is about all that I've seen leak out of your state. Here it seems like we've got a half dozen yard signs scattered about.

But I don't know what's going on on TV.

Mr. Lear took the microphone for a moment. “My God,” he said, feigning shock as he sized up Mr. Gillum, “he’s black.” The joke killed.

Democratic candidates are running against the NRA in previously gun-friendly districts — and they’re winning

In an extraordinary turnaround, fueled no doubt by a series of mass shootings that have devastated communities across the U.S., Democrats in previously gun-friendly districts are taking on the powerful National Rifle Association in their campaign speeches and finding voters approve.

According to a report in the New York Times, a harbinger of the waning power of the NRA can be seen in the state that contains the site of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre as well as the 2012 Aurora movie shooting where a 4-time-elected pro-NRA congressman is about to be ousted.

Dems Open Up A Big Lead On Eve Of Midterms, But Trump Gets High Marks On The Economy: IBD/TIPP Poll

With voter interest in the midterm elections at historic heights, Democrats opened up a 9-point lead over Republicans on the question of who should control Congress after the midterm elections, while President Donald Trump's approval rating remained unchanged at 40%, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll.

The two top issues for voters in the midterm elections are the economy and health care, which benefit each party. The poll also found that Trump still hasn't closed the deal with the public on his trade policies.

2018 midterm elections: what time the polls open and close

The 2018 midterm elections are just days away, with multiple Senate, House, and governor races up for grabs. Americans will head to the polls on Tuesday, November 6, to cast their ballots.

The stakes are high for the latest elections — among Democrats, there’s been enthusiastic but modest buzz about a potential blue wave. Republicans are hoping to hold on to control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, and President Donald Trump has been making a last-minute push to get his supporters to head to the polls even though he’s not on the ballot.

The Progressive Liberal wrestler draws boos and anger as he body- slams his way through Trump Country

HAZARD, Ky. — The music stopped and Daniel Harnsberger — all 6-foot-5, 237 pounds of him — burst through the black curtain and jumped into the ring. Kids booed. Mothers shouted “snowflake.” A girl shot him thumbs down, and a logger threatened to take a swipe at him.

Taunting his hecklers as hillbillies and saying coal was a “dirty lie,” Harnsberger — eyeing his nemesis and local favorite Pretty Boy Stan Lee — ranted and prowled, the perfect villain on a rainy night in an abandoned school in one of the poorest regions of the nation.

Larry Sabato's Crystal Ball Final 2018 Midterm Election Picks

Final picks for 2018

Democrats in House; Republicans in Senate; Democrats big in gubernatorial races; be on guard for upsets

Our best guesses for Tuesday

The 2018 midterm has long been a study in contradictory signs. There is, for Republicans, the benefit of running at a time of relative peace and prosperity. Unpopular wars and economic recessions have spelled doom for the president’s party in many past midterm elections. But then there is also the weak approval rating of President Trump, who thanks to his deliberately polarizing style has kept the GOP base in line but strongly alienated Democrats and, perhaps more importantly, independent, swing voters. Democrats have held a steady lead in the high single digits on the national House generic ballot polling, a lead suggestive of a potential House flip but not one large enough to indicate that such a flip is an absolute lock.

Dems damp down hopes for climate change agenda

Democrats are unlikely to pursue major climate change legislation if they win the House majority, despite a growing body of evidence suggesting time is running out to address the issue.

This represents a shift in strategy from when House Democrats last controlled the chamber. In 2009, they passed cap-and-trade legislation, which subsequently died in the Democratic-controlled Senate. The game plan for next year, House Democrats say, is more incremental steps and hearings.

BTRTN Official 2018 Midterms Predictions

The Dems gain +38 seats, taking control of the House with some breathing room to spare, and coming away with a 231/204 advantage. The Dems end up winning 22 of the 33 “toss-up” races, but some of these take days before a winner is declared. By any definition, this represents a giant repudiation to Trump and certainly counts as a “blue wave.” But keep in mind, those toss-up races are close, and thus there is a 22% chance (1 in 5) the GOP retains the House.

· The GOP holds onto the Senate and keeps their current 51/49 advantage. Of the eight races truly in play, the Dems manage to flip both Nevada and Arizona, but the GOP will offset those losses by turning North Dakota and Missouri. The Democrats hold onto Indiana and Montana, but despite valiant efforts, they lose in single digits in the deep red states of Texas and Tennessee.

The Long-Term Solution to Voter Suppression

Efforts to expand the franchise could ultimately counteract efforts to shrink it.

News stories on voting this campaign season have focused on suppression tactics that make casting a ballot more difficult for citizens. Less appreciated is the fact that next week’s midterm elections could result in a vast expansion of voting rights. All told, the expansion measures could broaden the franchise more than current suppression measures shrink it.

These opportunities come via voter initiatives in three areas: redistricting reform, automatic voter registration, and restoration of voting rights to felons who have served their time.

FB that's all you need to know.

A Mysterious Facebook Group Is Using Bernie Sanders’ Image to Urge Democrats to Vote for the Green Party

A Facebook page for a group called “America Progress Now” is running ads online urging progressives to vote for Green Party candidates in seven competitive races in the Midwest.

“People of Color NEED Marcia Squier in the Senate to represent them,” one of the ads says, promoting a Green Party candidate in Michigan. “Americans don’t have control over our government anymore. We’ve lost it to greedy, corporate capitalists,” says another, calling for voters to support Ohio Green Party candidate Joe Manchik.
