As court pressure heats up, Va. House Republicans say they're ready to work on redistricting

Republican leaders in the Virginia House of Delegates told a federal court Wednesday that they intend to return to Richmond in mid-October for a possible vote on a redistricting plan, an attempt to counter Democratic arguments that the court should intervene to break a legislative “impasse” over how to fix racial gerrymandering.

Republicans filed the new timeline with the federal judicial panel that has ordered state lawmakers to redraw the House map. On June 26, the court ruled that 11 House districts were drawn in a way that improperly packed African-American voters into majority-minority districts.
