Are wireless voting machines vulnerable? Florida, other states say they’re safe enough

WASHINGTON
Barely a month before midterm elections, voting integrity advocates and electronic voting experts want the federal government to issue an official warning to states that use voting machines with integrated cellular modems that the machines are vulnerable to hacks, potentially interfering with the ballot counting.

Once seen as a useful tool to provide quick election results, voting machines with cellular modems are now subject to fierce debate over how easy it would be to break into them and change the results.

Good article

Of course they are vulnerable.....and wireless are more vulnerable than hardwired... but anything connected to a network open somewhere is vulnerable.

And the problem is less the simple hacker. Those who want to hack into the system will often have close to unlimited resrources. Not sure you can make them unhackable. Redundancy might be a significant part of the solution.

The thing about wires is one can walk from end to end and visually insure that the wire hasn't strayed.

That really tighten's up security over a network. It's the best option of all.

I'm of the mind that throwing away that kind of security so out weighs whatever it is beyond that about those wireless systems such that its kind of weird to be discussing it.

Don't use wireless because it doesn't have wires.
