J.D. Vance Lays Out Plan to Sabotage Federal Law Enforcement Because Trump Was Arrested
OHIO SENATOR J.D. Vance has vowed to “grind [the Justice Department] to a halt” in response to the indictment of Donald Trump on charges related to his treatment of classified documents after leaving office.
Trump was arrested and arraigned in Miami on Tuesday. Vance posted a video from the steps of the Capitol earlier in the day declaring that he “will be holding all Department of Justice nominees … I think that we have to grind this department to a halt until [Attorney General] Merrick Garland promises to do his job and stop going after his political opponents.”

Gov. Greg Abbott signs law placing limits on collegiate transgender athletes
Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill into law Thursday that requires college athletes to play on teams that align with the sex they were assigned at birth.
Under Senate Bill 15, which supporters have dubbed the "Save Women’s Sports Act," transgender women will be required to play on men’s teams and transgender men will have to play on women’s teams.

Tim Scott fires back at Obama over race remarks
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) took a jab at former President Obama this week after the Democrat criticized the declared 2024 GOP presidential contender over his remarks about race and racial progress in the country.
“Let us not forget we are a land of opportunity, not a land of oppression. Democrats deny our progress to protect their power. The Left wants you to believe faith in America is a fraud and progress in our nation is a myth,” Scott said in a statement Thursday.

Reddit's CEO is now taking his cues from Elon Musk, working to destroy another social network
Sheesh, talk about someone who can’t read a room.
In the middle of a wide-ranging blackout by many of its largest volunteer-driven communities, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman gave what might be one of the most disastrous interviews of the year. In short? He wants to do to Reddit what Elon Musk did to Twitter.

Once again, fuck you Glen. Land of opportunity is agitprop, nothing more and nothing less. Minorities including Tom, sorry, Tim, Scott know the truth.Tim Scott fellates the RW because he hopes to be invited to the table. Conservatism uses and throws away “conservative” minorities because conservatism offers nothing, never did, never will. A splendid example is Clarence Thomas who wants to eliminate those things that helped him out on the way up. Take the hand up then take the ladder away.
Re: The GOP Snowflake Thread
Wow, this is the Frederick Douglas defense. After all, during the years of slavery, Frederick Douglas was born a slave, was able to learn to read and write, and was able to escape and become a successful and famous man.
So, since HE could do it, it means that the America of the 1800's was truly a land of opportunity for all people of any color, and so America wasn't a racist country at that time.
I mean, Barack Obama also came from humble origins. So why is Tim Scott right and Obama wrong? Why doesn't Tim Scott tell George Floyd that America is the land of the free? Oh, right...
So c'mon, Glenn, whitesplain to blacks that they have nothing to complain about. Black people don't agree with him. He certainly didn't win the black vote in his own state.
Re: The GOP Snowflake Thread
Juneteenth is about celebrating the end of slavery if you're Black, and if you are not it is about spreading the true historical story about how slowly this was implemented, and how many stages it went through before slavery was indeed and for real ended rather than merely on paper.
Juneteenth is when the slaves in Texas finally found out that they had actually all been freed statewide, after the end of a process that took years and required a military occupation. Check out the various maps that get published every year if you want to see when your state actually ended slavery. It could be later than you think, especially in MD and DE.
Best not to talk about it at all if you're in TX or FL. Their most successful politicians depend on your ignorance of how painful the process really was down there.

First off Obama was not from wealth but he was also not from humble beginnings. Obama would never spread a message of opportunity because that goes against the liberal mantra.gounion wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 7:37 am Wow, this is the Frederick Douglas defense. Democrats have to keep African Americans believing they live in a racist country where they have no chance in order to continue to coop the African American vote.
Sen Scott who has already been called a Tom on this thread is the democratic party's worst nightmare.
As he truly came from humble beginnings and his message is one of hope, opportunity and prosperity that resonates with voters from all spectrums of life. Even if wealthy white privileged liberals like Joey Bahar claims he doesn't know what it means to be black.
If Sen Scott can flip just 15pct of the African American vote the democratic party is done. It's leaders like President Obama know it which is why he is trashing Sen Scott.
Sidebar Tim Scott is a US Senator his brother is more successful than he. Look him up.

DeSantis sues Biden administration over university accrediting system
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Thursday that the state has filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration and the U.S. Department of Education over accreditation agencies, which control federal aid for students.
The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale federal court, challenges a federal law that requires colleges and universities to submit to private accreditors to qualify for federal funding. It targets the U.S. Department of Education, Secretary Miguel Cardona and other federal officials.

No Labels Exposed: Here’s a List of Donors Funding Its Effort To Disrupt the 2024 Race
No Labels, the political outfit preparing to run a “unity” ticket in 2024 that Democratic strategists and Never-Trump Republican operatives fear will siphon votes from President Joe Biden, is what’s known as a dark-money group. Unlike political parties, political action committees, and House, Senate, and presidential candidates, it is not required to reveal who is funding it. And No Labels, which says it intends to raise $70 million to possibly place a third-party candidate on the presidential ballot next year, refuses to disclose who is financing this project. But Mother Jones has obtained a list of 36 wealthy contributors and corporate high-rollers who last year wrote big checks to support No Labels’ effort to win 2024 ballot lines in states across the nation. This roster includes past and present chief executives of major companies, including Loews Corporation (a vast conglomerate), Fluor (an engineering and construction giant), Abry Partners (a private equity firm), SailPoint (a tech firm), and Fortress Investment Group.

Rightwingers say ‘pink-haired liberals’ are killing New York pizza. Here’s what’s really happening
Woke bureaucrats want to destroy the last of New York City’s beloved coal- and wood-fired pizzerias in a crazed climate crusade.
That’s the lie fueling the latest rightwing outrage cycle, in a distorted account of a commonsense air quality rule passed in New York City seven years ago. In reality, the rule, which soon takes effect, requires a handful of pizzerias to reduce the exhaust fumes that could harm neighbors, using a small air filter like those required at other New York City restaurants, which have been used by pizza shops in Italy for decades.

House passes LLC voting bill for Seaford and draws fire from Common Cause
Republican legislators, after walking out Thursday before a vote on the state capital budget, were able to get Democrats to meet their demand to pass a bill allowing non-resident property owners to vote in Seaford municipal elections.
None of this sat well with Common Cause, which opposed the legislation.

State Department failed to plan or respond fast enough in Afghanistan collapse, new US report finds
WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department failed to do enough planning before the collapse of the U.S.-backed government in Afghanistan, according to a Biden administration review of the department's performance during the chaotic evacuation of Americans and Afghan allies.
The review repeatedly blames the administrations of both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden for their efforts before and after the August 2021 departure of U.S. forces from Kabul. The U.S. evacuated an estimated 124,000 Afghans from the country.

Election Coups are horrible not right at all.
Suspension of Guatemala Voting Results Stokes Fears of Electoral Coup
The June 25 elections saw the improbable outcome of social-democrat academic Bernardo Arévalo advancing to the presidential run-off on stark promises to halt the country’s authoritarian slide and to facilitate the return of dozens of exilees.
But less than a week later, amid an intense smear campaign depicting Arévalo as an anti-family “communist”, the Constitutional Court (CC) and Supreme Electoral Tribunal intervened in favor of a slate of establishment parties looking to delay the results on accusations of “fraud”.

Federal Judge Rejects FTC Effort To Halt Microsoft-Activision Merger
A federal judge has rejected the Federal Trade Commission’s effort to stop Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, ruling that the government had not shown that the transaction would substantially lessen competition.
“The FTC has not shown it is likely to succeed on its assertion the combined firm will probably pull Call of Duty from Sony PlayStation, or that its ownership of Activision content will substantially lessen competition in the video game library subscription and cloud gaming markets,” U.S. District Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley wrote in her opinion (read it here).
