Times Square Is Having Trouble Hanging On to Office Workers

New York’s Times Square, which moved past its era of porn and squalor by luring companies to new skyscrapers, now faces defections by some of those very tenants.

Wasn't Times Square always touristy? It certainly was when you got propositioned three times walking between 42nd and 47th, and when there were rigged 3-card Monte games and "adult" peep shows all over the place.

Speaking of desnudos, where's the Naked Cowboy?

I agree that those people costumed like characters are a problem. Hollywood gets them too. I would suspect they have the same or similar pimps. The whole thing is pretty disreputable. Tourists eat it up, though.

I did notice that a couple of big corporations had gone skeedaddle. Agreed that the uber-sexy Lower West Side is a draw.

Big advantage of Times Square is the one they mentioned, with most the subways converging there, and the ones that don't having a shuttle from GCT. Provided they can pry loose the money to keep the subway from self-destructing.

Manhattan is a weird place. Those big buildings can hide distance. Rockefeller Center is only a few blocks from Times Square, but you're in another world, even though it's also a touristy one. It seems to be about attitude.
