I don't have access to all those networks - tru, TBS, TNT, but tonight I was on the Interactive NCAA site and apparently it's possible to watch some of the games live there. I watched a bit of one earlier tonight. It seems to work, but I don't know it's going to be continuous. I'll be able to watch the CBS games, which is good: Ohio State/Dayton, Syracuse/Western Michigan, Michigan/Wofford and Texas/Arizona State.

Let's plan on getting together here tomorrow night to compare our picks and how they did. I'm even going to be up by noon! Also, I'll reveal my picks for Friday.
I know, I'm nuts. My own children can't stand me this time each year. I don't pretend to be anything I'm not and this is my one (well, one of my) obsession(s).
See some of you tomorrow (or later today, if you're really picky about the time thing).
Sallie

Barely squeezed by in one of my picks with Dayton, but one of the other's isn't looking too hot right now, with Cincinnati being my pick. That Ohio St-Dayton game was an exciting one. Wish I could have watched the entire game, but I only caught part of it when I went home for lunch.

Well, it's obvious that I'm out of the running for that $1 billion. That was one helluva game, eh? I should have just copied SI's picks. I no longer have any faith in my system. LOL!
Sports Illustrated picked Harvard.

Yeah, I know at least one of those 12-5 matchups usually result in an upset, and quite a few were picking Harvard, but I thought Cinnci had a little too much firepower for them this year. Guess on this one, the pundits were correct, and I was wrong.

What ticks me off about wrong picks so early is that you'll never be able to be right about the next round. Zounds!

LOL. Glen gets to blame the committee earlier than most of us thought. Ohio State.

First off, both glen and jdogg are right, jdogg more so than glen. The draw DOES have a lot to do with where you are and everything, but don't think for a minute that the NCAA isn't interested in giving WSU the toughest hand possible. glen's right about that. The NCAA doesn't really want a team like Wichita State to win, there's more ratings and money in the big schools winning. And the NCAA is all about the money.

Nice timely article from ThinkProgress:

The true winner of this tournament, though, is predetermined: it is the NCAA, the organization that will bring in hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue in this three-week period alone. And compared to other sports organizations or business enterprises in America, it will distribute a minimal amount of that money back to the players who make it all happen.

In 2010, the NCAA signed a 14-year contract with CBS and Turner Sports (TNT, TBS, and truTV), giving those networks the right to broadcast the tournament for the measly sum of $10.8 billion. For this tournament alone, the NCAA will haul in somewhere around $770 million in revenue. That doesn’t include revenue from ticket and concession sales or from corporate sponsorships, which together add tens of millions more to the NCAA’s coffers.

The NCAA isn’t the only winner. CBS and Turner wouldn’t pay this much money for the broadcast rights if it didn’t earn that much and more back, and the same goes for the tournament’s other sponsors and advertisers. Las Vegas experts say the first four days of the NCAA Tournament generate a betting handle similar to the Super Bowl, which brought in $119.4 million this year alone. The coaches — of both tournament teams and non — earn salaries stretching from hundreds of thousands of dollars to, in the case of Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski, more than $7 million a year.

The only group that doesn’t seem to get their fair share is, of course, the players.

Wow! We're really getting some close games in this tourney so far.

Well, another of my picks wasn't looking too good at the half, in the ST Joseph-Conn game, but they're starting to pull back in closer now.

I'm beginning to think you're better off to go with your heart. I personally love Connecticut (right Ilise?) But went with St. Joe's at the last minute. I like Dayton better than OSU, but went with Ohio State. No excuses here.
And! I'm also thinking we should have a separate thread for those of us who just want to talk about our picks and scores, etc.

Yeah, it really is hard to say at this point as far any system. Sometimes they seem to work, sometimes not.
I've gotten extremely lucky so far, but as far as the OSU-Dayton game goes, that was a toss up and could have gone either way. I heard some sportcasters talking about it at halftime, and they were going on about Dayton's shooting, and strenghts, and I thought--are you kiddding? In the end, it came down to luck. If OSU wouldn't have missed, it would have been thier game, but it goes back to the woulda's, coulda's, shoulda's.

At any rate anyone who browbeats about that game is just a durn fool, is the larger point. Some of these really could go either way when they go down to the wire.

I'm 100 percent right. There is no conspiracy. Conspiracy gets in the way of the money making. Casinos don't cheat because they don't have to and it can kill the golden goose. Same thing with rigging the tournament.

Again, once you have the 64 teams, you can reverse engineer the entire bracket. IF THERE WAS A CONSPIRACY, THEN IT WOULD IMMEDIATELY BE UNCOVERED.

So far, all we have from Gou and Glen is accusations that are completely contradicted by the evidence. That's all there ever will be because the conspiracy doesn't exist.

There's no complete hard-and-fast non-subjective equation as to how the NCAA builds the brackets. I didn't say there was a conspiracy, just the fact that the NCAA decides how to build the brackets, and they have a lot of leeway, too. They loaded the top of the bracket so that WSU only has ONE easy game, and they'll likely have tough games the rest of the way, against the nation's best.

And jdogg, look at the NCAA's history. There's a reason that the bowl system in football is going to playoffs - because the NCAA has been so damned arbitrary in the past in awarding bowl bids. It's really bad when undefeated teams aren't even given a shot at the title. And I remember back in the eighties and nineties, when Wichita State considered getting into the NCAA tournament a successful season. We were usually on the bubble, whether it'd be the NCAA tournament of the NIT. We wouldn't know until they were named. Why? There's no set criteria. There was a LOT of subjectivity whether you'd make it or where you'd go.

Now, Justin, you say it's ALL about geography, nothing more. The NCAA puts together the brackets based upon geography, so there won't be long airline flights. It's the midwest. Okay... lessee... who's Wichita State playing tonight...

California Polytechnic. A fine Midwestern school. :rw)

Personally, I'm not concerned about the bracket WSU has, and neither are they. They've had a perfect season so far. They know they're in a weak conference, and they plan on beating each of these teams so that everyone knows that this was no fluke. They don't WANT the easy way.

If they deserve the national championship, then they need to beat all the best to get it. I have no problem with that.

After the first half of Round 1 I'm down by 4 games. If I keep that pace up or greater in this 2nd half, my bracket will be pretty much done.

Probably got the greatest chance of losing in the 2nd rounds though. I made some risky predictions, (others would probably call them darn foolish-lol) especially in the so called "bracket of death"

Well, guess we'll see what results today brings.

I'm not arguing with you about something you clearly can't support with evidence. There IS a formula. You can download. It WAS followed, or someone would be complaining. I posted the wiki article showing that the highly complicated rules require REGION to be the first priority with bracketing, subject to the rule against playing on your home court in the men's tournament. Those are the rules. You can deny that they exist all you want.

Claiming I said it is "ALL about geography", going out of your way to capitalize "ALL" when I posted what the rules say is a tad dishonest but I don't really care.

The fact is you and glen obviously don't know what you are talking about and are filling in the void with hyperbole rather than a single shred of evidence of this grand conspiracy. The fact that WSU got an easier road than many isn't evidence of a conspiracy. It's evidence that the system, with all it's rules, still isn't going to be perfectly balanced for all teams. That's the case in every bracketed sport competition though.

I can't get on RFL on my laptop - only on my tablet. This is making it very hard to do my picks for today, but of course I'm already down by one. Do you believe Mercer? Who's Mercer?
So anyway I'm going to try to post my picks slowly with one finger:
Virginia Comonwealth vs. Stephen F. Austin - SFA
UCLA vs. Tulsa - UCLA
N. Mexico State vs. Stanford - Stanford
Kansas vs. Eastern Kentucky - Kansas
Arizona vs. Weber - Arizona
Gonzaga vs. Arizona State - Gonzaga
Baylor vs. Nebraska - Baylor
Creighton vs. Lafayette - Creighton
Wichita State vs. Cal Poly - Wichita State
Kentucky vs. Kansas - Kentucky
Massachuttes vs. Tennessee - Tennessee
Duke vs. Mercer - Duke
Virginia vs. Coastal Carolina - Coastal Carolina
Memphis vs. George Washington - Memphis
North Carolina vs. Providence - Providence
Iowa State vs. North Carolina Central - Iowa State
It's taken so long to type these that half the games are probably over.
Sallie

@hd79: Either great minds think alike, or we're both doomed when it comes to picking winners. I'm pretty much down by 3 with at least one more counting down the seconds.

I was making a joke that Duke, of course, is the basketball school, and WSU gets downgraded because they haven't played many of these so-called "powerhouse" schools. While Duke got shown the door in the first round, WSU took care of business and routed poor Cal Poly.

Next up: Kentucky. Anyone here betting against WSU?

I left my bracket in the truck but, for today I think I had Florida, Louisville, Michigan, SD St, Syracuse, Mich St, the other two games and can't remember my original picks but I think I had Wisc and Ct.
