The Arizona Rattlers defeated the Pittsburgh Power today, 68-34, in Pittsburgh, to extend their record to 15-2 and clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs enroute to a berth, hopefull in Arena Bowl XXIV.

Arena Football is one of the most entertaining sporting events I have ever been a part of. I had season tickets for the Rattlers many years ago but in recent years have not been able to go because of health concerns.

Each game is like a fun filled event, complete with fireworks, unbelievable high volume level fans, and some exciting indoor football.

Unfortunately, from what I have learned, is that if you are not a fan of a particular Arena Football team, it loses a lot of the allure when watching the games on TV. And, because the rules are so different than NFL football, it takes a lot of getting used to.

It is played on a field that is only fifty yards long, and hence, the game is billed as a fifty yard war.

At the end of each end zone there are high nets that stop the football on kicks for extra points, field goals and kickoffs, as well as overthrown forward passes.

If the ball bounces off the netting, it is a live football and can be scored as a touchdown or run back in the other direction.

The goal posts are not as wide as the ones in the NFL.

It is primarily a passing game with very little running and there are only eight players on the field for each team.

Strict defensive rules prohibit certain players from moving out of what is called the box area.

Anogher fun part is that the field is surrounded by boards, much like the boards on a hockey rink, and players boune into and off of these boards and sometimes over the boards into the stands.

Teams rack up a lot of points and scores in the fifties and sixties are very common and on occasion, even more.

Check it out on TV. There is a game on every Friday night on the NFL network. Only one week remains in the regular season.

Here's the link to their web site.
