Your number one objective is to get out of there as quickly as possible with as little damage as possible.
I won't bore you with stories about getting hassled by cops but I have a few.
If the cops do something illegal you deal with it after the fact not at the time.

The students did the correct thing. They didn't escalate the situation. They stood there and took the cops shit.
Because of that they now have the upper hand on dealing with the situation. They have the law the courts the press and hopefully public opinion on their side.

To use a cliche situations like that aren't a sprint they are a marathon.

So what do you folks think they should have done. If you can please be specific as opposed to talking in platitudes with comments like what about rights what about the constitution etc

You're the one who is saying they can win in court. Not with THESE judges! The cops have qualified immunity, so they can do whatever the fuck they want and get away with it, and the courts won't do shit to stop them.

Trust me it isnt fun and very stressful being hassled by law enforcement. Yes, I agree with you that for minorities it is far worse.

Sidebar I once received a ticket for not having a fire extinguisher. The cop and I was standing next to and looking at my fire extinguisher when he said I didn't have one.

My response was yes sir if you say I have no fire extinguisher then I don't have one. Imagine had I said fuck you it is right there.
