Gonna get worse when the Paramount deal closes, though right now they're probably taking Vegas odds on who will be the other company.

I'm glad I don't write for the trades. It's a full time job just keeping up with who owns what and how much of it they own.

totally absurd and they know it.
its not about "compensation" but "money laundering".
its what they do...they figure out ways to move large money to themselves. not you.
and everyone falls for it. congress, states, all the ways and means theyve found to
share the wealth...which they get from you n me.

taking money is what they do. they perk their favorite pols to write laws that benefit only
them and the money "I" give them for some crap product they must sell to me....so they
can have all the money.

then they tell you they luv you.

If corporate bullshit was gold, the entertainment industry would not be in its worst decline in decades right now.

And yet there are so many good series and movies on Apple, Netflix, prime, max, Hulu, and on and on.

That there are. I watch a bunch of them. The fact remains that the entertainment employment in LA was high for a long time, making everyone think there was an inexhaustible gold mine. This kind of thinking in economics nearly always leads to a rude surprise. We are getting that surprise.

The problem in the entertainment industry, unless you're one of those executive types that make the rounds of top management, is that it is cyclical and very faddy. Boom or bust, never sustained steady work.

i suspect the changes looming for entertainment will be shocking. they can make an entire
movie starring tom cruise who never set foot on the set.
they can literally make it all up.

this continues to drain the sap.

That was one of the issues in the strike. It is now possible to pay actors for one brief session where they're photographed from all angles, and then project the resulting data onto whole scenes staged using people who make a lot less money.

One of the things that put SAG-AFTRA over the edge was when they de-aged Harrison Ford. They used some kind of CGI process to literally project a younger actor's face onto Ford's closeup, and apparently if you knew what to look for, it was pretty obvious what had happened.

It suddenly hit them that with motion capture and a few sessions of image scanning of actors, it was now possible to make the whole show that way, for a lot less money.

Without the union, this would be standard procedure now.

For a lot of stuff, they don't need life forms at all. The lizard in Death In Paradise is completely CGI. You'd never get a real lizard to hit marks and look just the right way at the right time. People are more complicated than lizards, but then the technology is new and it will evolve, the way technologies do.

When you are part of the live audience in a multi-camera TV show, you sign a release saying that you give permission to use your likeness. This used to mean that maybe they'd have one wide shot of the audience and they don't want to pay everyone in it. Now there has been at least one case of someone from one of these audiences winding up in a scene, projected onto some stand-in. She tried to sue to get what she'd have gotten for formal extra work, but she lost.

The possibilities for mischief here are endless.

into some new world. society. just cuz of AI.
we barely take care of our neighbors cuz ya know they may not be pale north euro

I'm sure you've used the filters on chat apps that show your face. They will do anything. "I am not a cat" comes from when a judge or lawyer couldn't get one of these not to show him as one. We're going to have to change "On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog," to "On the Internet, everyone thinks you're a cat." I don't know who writes all these filters, but they've gotten awfully good at it. You can put yourself into any background you want. You can be sitting on Mars babbling into your cheap plastic mike. You can make your lips look you're wearing lipstick. Changing eye color is routine. What should it be today?

And this is the cheap or free crap that comes with chat apps. You can imagine what studios with millions of bucks to spend can do.
