When I was growing up in Colorado there wasn't a ban on high-capacity magazines, however if a magazine held more than 4 shells and a person was hunting with the rifle that held that magazine, that was a serious violation and a person would get a ticket and have to go to court and see a judge.ap215 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 01, 2021 7:41 am Court upholds California ban on high-capacity magazines
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a ruling by two of its judges and upheld California’s ban on high-capacity magazines Tuesday in a split decision that may be headed for the U.S. Supreme Court.
“The statute outlaws no weapon, but only limits the size of the magazine that may be used with firearms,” the court said in the 7-4 ruling.

I had a rifle with a fixed magazine which held 6 shells. To fix it so I could use the rifle for hunting I had to make and install a piece of wood inside the magazine such that it blocked enough space in the magazine that it wouldn't allow for more than 4 shells to be stuffed into it. It worked but it caused the top shell to be pressed in way too tight because the wood bunched the spring, and that caused the action to not work,
But it would work OK with only three shells in there and that was OK with the law, and OK with me because I never missed and didn't need more than the one shell in the chamber.
