Happy Halloween Guys
Halloween in on Sunday. The local churches will be sponsoring the kids this year. I'm going to curl up and the "Blade" Trilogy and Jason Scott Lee's Dracula Trilogy. Everybody stay safe. If you get kids at the door, treat them well and remember you used to go Trick or Treat yourself.
Love of Country is not Blind Patriotism. It is not devotion to one person or one party. It is knowing fighting for your country is single most important thing you can do. Do not accept the notion violence is the answer.
Re: Happy Halloween Guys
Since I'll be home on Halloween, I bought two bags of candy in case any kids come by. Our city has a Halloween even downtown where most of the kids go and there's another event on one of the longer streets with homes. We usually get only a couple of kids each year so I don't buy much candy.
I'll be washing and waxing my car on Sunday morning when it's cool and then it's football in the afternoon and the new season of Dr. Who Sunday night. In short, a good day.

I'm like Jodie Whittaker as "The Doctor". It's a shame that the "Doctor" does not Ginger Hair.

We are doing what we did last year. Everybody sets up in their front yard. It’s like a Halloween block party. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

Have a safe and sane Halloween Joe. I have some fond memories of Trick or Treating as a child in Memphis.JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 9:53 am We are doing what we did last year. Everybody sets up in their front yard. It’s like a Halloween block party. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

The same to you. Come on by for old times sake. We are a friendly neighborhood. There will be adult treats.marindem01 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 30, 2021 10:04 am Have a safe and sane Halloween Joe. I have some fond memories of Trick or Treating as a child in Memphis.
Re: Happy Halloween Guys
We don't get many trick or treaters but we always overreact to their costumes and send them off with plenty of loot.
Trunk or treat is becoming popular here. Mass gathering in a parking lot with decorated vehicles. Kids go trunk to trunk and get candy. Sometimes, there are bouncy houses.
On a side note - it will be nice to finally get rid of the pumpkins and gourds that are slowly rotting in front of the house. The indoor decorations are, thankfully, non perishable.

Re: Happy Halloween Guys
I haven't had trick or treaters show up at my door since we moved here in 2008.
I always buy a bit of candy in case some do show up, then eat it myself.

Why didn't the skeleton go to the prom? He had no body to go with.
What's a ghost's favorite desert? Iscream. What's a zombie's favorite desert? Eyescream
Where do zombies live? On a dead end street.
Adult dad joke I tell every year to my wife. Did you hear about Jack O Lantern? He had a hollow weenie. That one never gets laughs.

We did candy last night, I got my SO to wear a mask when she went to the door, so did I. Hope that wasnt a mistake, but it was fun. And having the RING doorbell camera made it easy!
I sigh in your general direction.
Re: Happy Halloween Guys
Speaking of stealing. We had an incident here over Halloween. We bagged up candy and placed it on a table out front with a sign that said please take one bag each. We have mostly little kids in the neighborhood that come to the door with their parents. The honor system seemed to work out well last year. Well, three 15 year old kids my son knows from school showed up and took all the candy and poured it into their backbacks and video taped it. They then sent the video to my son, who is currently sick with a cold. Nice friends.

Re: Happy Halloween Guys
I wanted to do that last year but my SO nixed it, said this would happen.Drak wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 10:30 am Speaking of stealing. We had an incident here over Halloween. I then said in a group/neighborhood email that we would not do Halloween (again, this is last year) but what I couldnt say was that I wanted to put a table out and my wife said no, that would be throwing her under the bus. So of course it got back to me that a few neighbors grumbled about my comment, oh did I mention at the end of the email I said "But I am willing to donate money to neighbors who are doing candy, just come on by and I will donate or I can do Venmo."
And still my trumper neighbors found a way to criticize me, but they know I am a liberal so makes sense.
I sigh in your general direction.
Re: Happy Halloween Guys
Deathly quiet Halloween here. The parents take the kids where the pickings are better, and there are fewer cars passing at 35-40 MPH. We did put out the usual big city covid era bowl of candy. It was untouched. More for us.
As I said somewhere else, this is a street of dog walkers. Big ones, little ones, bushy ones, bald ones... and that's just the people. The dogs are quite the show as well. The street swarms with them in the afternoon when it cools enough for doggie to stay happy outside sniffing everything vertical. One group of guys, shirts off in summer, gathers around an attractive blonde lady, sometimes for 2 hours at a stretch. Their dogs don't seem to mind being static for that long. On weekends, an old lady sits on the lawn a block or so down and greets all comers. We like her.
In this part of LA, there is less chance of catching a stray round or being robbed than in many others. In general, citywide, the mayor and city council have other priorities besides making the city liveable. In fact, the mayor is awaiting Congressional confirmation for a better job away from this sinkhole of futility. At least in this neighborhood, there is less chance the LAPD will blow the place up and then refuse to pay for it.
And you wonder why I prefer New York. ConEd can blow up your neighborhood, though for different reasons, but they're at least usually good for the damage. At least until the covid hit, there was actually progress being made here and there, and right now there's at least the real possibility that Rikers Island will close and the culture of incarceration will be attacked. In LA it's a moral victory when they find housing for 15 people. The rest of the time, eat bugs and run from predators.

I'd have your son send you the video and then you send it to each of the kid's parents.Drak wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 10:30 am Speaking of stealing. We had an incident here over Halloween. Absolutely. That is my plan. But there's also a line where he could be bullied for it so I'm going to have a family chat.

Re: Happy Halloween Guys
It was quiet at my place; no kids came which isn't unusual. The city put on a Halloween event downtown on Friday evening for the kids to get treats and on Halloween most of the parent don't take their kids Trick or Treatin' because they just did that. We used have buses that came up from Tijuana bringing kids to go Trick or Treatin' but that died off years ago. I did have some candy on-hand just in case but I'll end up taking it to bowling this week and giving it away.
