Dr. Phil is a quack and a charlatan.

So is Dr. Oz, but only one of them has the chutzpah to run for office.

Dr. Phil's doesn't have a license to practice but then again he doesn't need one because on his show he doesn't professionally treat anyone but uses them for entertainment value to make loads of money.

Chicago PD told to increase arrests or face demotion after meeting with mayor: report
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot reportedly warned Chicago police leaders that they will be demoted or lose their lose jobs if they fail to increase arrest numbers.

During the closed-door meeting, Lightfoot and Chicago Police Supt. David Brown didn’t outline how they intend to tackle the surging violent crime in the city or the department-wide staffing issues amid COVID-19 mandates, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
+
In her letter to the judge, Mayor Lightfoot said she wants a moratorium on electronic monitoring for offenders where “the lead charge is murder, attempted murder, aggravated gun possession, felons in possession, sex crimes, illegal gun possession, vehicular carjacking, kidnapping or attempted kidnapping or other crimes of violence.”
theGrio didn't give numbers. If Fox is to be believed...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/chicago-judg ... 51221.html
The mayor cited Chicago police records that indicate 130 people were arrested while they were on electronic monitoring for a "violent offense." In his response, Evans countered that those 130 represent less than 1% of all cases that include a charge for a violent or weapons-related offense.
+
As of mid-year 2021, there were 3,599 defendants out on electronic monitoring in Cook County, showing an increase of about 1,400 from 2017 levels, according to data from Evans’ office.
It's more like 3%.

‘Disgusting’: Newly Released Video Captures Florida Officer Grabbing a Female Subordinate by the Throat After She Pulled Him Away from Suspect He Was Confronting
A South Florida police sergeant has been taken off the street after a video of him choking a fellow officer emerged last week.

Sgt. Christopher Pullease has been relieved of his supervisory duties with the Sunrise, Florida, police department and is now under investigation after local news station WSVN, acting on a tip, began asking about an incident in which Pullease grabbed a female officer by the throat.
+
Audio in the body camera clip released by the Sunrise Police Department has been removed. However, Pullease can be seen leaning into the car in front of Similien while holding his can of pepper spray in front of Similien as if he’s about to use it.

Soon afterward, a nearby officer whose face in the video is blurred and whose name has not been released, comes running toward Pullease and grabs him by his belt, pulling him away from the Similien.

That’s when the sergeant is captured turning around and aggressively grabbing the officer by the neck while pushing her backward toward another police car. He then returns to the patrol car and slams the door before turning back to continue yelling and pointing at the female officer who stopped him.
Sounds like the police chief is commending the female police officer. The union on the other hand..............

Rick Wershe helps secure release of Michigan woman who spent nearly 19 years in prison
A Michigan woman whose been in prison since 2003 on non-violent drug offenses is free after her sentence was commuted.

Tracy Cowan, 60, was sentenced to up to 40 years in prison after cocaine, marijuana, and guns that were part of her boyfriend's drug dealing operation were found in her home.

"God, my angels, my family, I thank everybody," Cowan said as she was released from the Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Pittsfield Township.

Rick Wershe, who spent decades in prison on drug charges, worked with lawmakers to secure her release.......cut

....."Over incarceration, over punishment, that's what we're going to work on together – people that shouldn't be incarcerated for as long as they are," Wershe said.

ProfX wrote: Sun Dec 26, 2021 10:35 am So, I read the article, and all I can say is I would have to know more about the trial. Honestly.

The truck driver says his brakes failed. This is why he ended up causing an accident that killed 4 people.

I personally don't view that as manslaughter, can't quite see why that would be his fault (not even his personal negligence and he wasn't DUI), and for sure that 110 year sentence seems excessively harsh.

Now that said. I don't know what came out at the trial. Was there a brake expert who testified he was lying about his brakes failing? Was he possibly way exceeding speed for the weather and road conditions.

Now on the latter situation, that might well merit some prison time for intentional recklessness, but yeah, me too, I don't see 110 years aka an effective life sentence.
His brakes failed because of driver error not faulty equipment

From what I've read, that's true. He overheated them trying to stop the truck when the right thing would have been to take a trip up the emergency lane. I'm not the one to ask about truck driving, but usually they're using the gears to keep speed under control on a grade like that one.
