And, it goes down in chances of the the end. The first cartoon, no blacks hired this cycle, is the most probable. Second most probable is the second. The third, with two black coaches hired out of nine, is highly unlikely. Any more than two hired is just not going to ever happen.

I did not know this, but in 2020 the League strengthened the Rooney Rule, and required all teams to interview two blacks for the openings. And son of a gun, guess what, how many blacks did Denver interview? Two, of course.

Which means that, without the Rooney Rule, teams wouldn't be interviewing ANY blacks.

The NFL admits to discrimination:

A top NFL official said Tuesday “there is a double standard” in the league when it comes to retaining and hiring Black coaches, a pointed public acknowledgment by the league that its teams have fallen short of the goal of increasing diversity within the senior coaching ranks.

Speaking one day after the Miami Dolphins fired Brian Flores following a second straight winning season, Troy Vincent, the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations, said the league should not “shy away from” its record of teams firing Black coaches after winning seasons or short tenures. Flores’s dismissal leaves the league with just two Black head coaches.

Vincent cited past cases with prominent Black coaches being let go, including Tony Dungy with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jim Caldwell with the Detroit Lions and Steve Wilks with the Arizona Cardinals. He added the example of Tyrone Willingham losing his job at Notre Dame.

“There is a double standard, and we’ve seen that,” Vincent said in a phone interview. “And you talk about the appetite for what’s acceptable. Let’s just go back to Tyrone Willingham at Notre Dame, [who] was fired after a winning season. Coach Dungy was let go in Tampa Bay after a winning season. So we have seen this. … Coach Wilks, just a few years prior, was let go after one year. And then the things that happened [Monday].

“There is a double standard. I don’t think that that is something that we should shy away from. But that is all part of some of the things that we need to fix in the system. We want to hold everyone to why does one, let’s say, get the benefit of the doubt to be able to build or take bumps and bruises in this process of getting a franchise turned around when others are not afforded that latitude? … We see it at the collegiate level. And we’ve seen that in history at the [professional] level.”

The Dolphins fired Flores after they finished 9-8. Flores’s record in three seasons as the team’s coach was 24-25, including a 10-6 mark in 2020.

“Coach Caldwell was fired after a winning season in Detroit. … It is part of the larger challenges that we have,” Vincent said. “But when you just look over time, it’s over-indexing for men of color. These men have been fired after a winning season. How do you explain that?”

The dismissal of Flores left the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin and the Houston Texans’ David Culley as the NFL’s Black head coaches. There have been reports that the Texans are contemplating Culley’s job status after the team went 4-13 in his first season. The Texans played all year without three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was on the inactive list for each game while he faces allegations of sexual misconduct made by women in civil lawsuits.

“I think if you actually look at the history of why the Rooney Rule was created in the first place, it was this very issue,” said Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer. “So that’s why we’re where we’re at in terms of putting together the policies, practices that we have because of that historical issue we’ve had with retention.”

I would say that, as far as whether the NFL owners are discriminating against black candidates for head coach, since the leadership of the NFL has basically plead guilty to discriminating, the argument is over.

Brian Flores Lawsuit Alleges NFL Racism, Reveals Details of Head Coach Searches

Wow. Who could have foreseen this? This case is a HUGE blow to the heart of the NFL. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Wonder of Flores suddenly gets a job offer, and every team that hasn't named a coach yet suddenly hires all black coaches?

Nah. Now THAT'S never going to happen!

Former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores is suing the NFL and all 32 teams, alleging racial discrimination in the hiring process of coaches.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Flores alleged the Giants had settled on Brian Daboll as their head coach days before they were scheduled to interview him. He completed his in-person interview with the franchise last Thursday, and Daboll was officially named as the Giants' new coach two days later.

As part of the lawsuit, Flores included evidence that Bill Belichick mistakenly texted him days before his interview congratulating him on getting the job.

"Sorry – I f--ked this up. I double checked and misread the text. I think they are naming Brian Daboll. I’m sorry about that. BB," the text read.

The Giants released a statement in response saying Flores was "in the conversation to be our head coach until the eleventh hour." The team did not deny it had settled on Daboll before interviewing Flores but noted its "impressive and diverse group of candidates."

"God has gifted me with a special talent to coach the game of football, but the need for change is bigger than my personal goals," Flores said. "In making the decision to file the class action complaint, I understand that I may be risking coaching the game I love and has done so much for my family and me. My sincere hope is that by standing up against systemic racism in the NFL, others will join me to ensure that positive change is made for generations to come."

Flores said his tenure in Miami was consistently undermined by upper management, specifically owner Stephen Ross. According to the suit, Ross offered Flores $100,000 for each loss during the 2019 season to tank for draft position. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier allegedly informed Flores that Ross was "mad" for winning games and "compromising" the tanking effort. The Dolphins ultimately finished 5-11 and picked fifth in the 2020 draft.

Ross also allegedly attempted to force Flores to engage in tampering with an unnamed "prominent quarterback" in 2020. The Dolphins owner allegedly invited Flores to a dinner on his yacht that, upon arrival, Flores said he realized was supposed to serve as a clandestine meeting between the coach and quarterback. Flores said he declined the meeting, which would have constituted a violation of NFL tampering rules.

"After the incident, Mr. Flores was treated with disdain and held out as someone who was noncompliant and difficult to work with," the lawsuit says.

Flores said the incident led to the Dolphins smearing his name through leaked reports of personality conflicts behind the scenes. Jeff Darlington of ESPN reported Jan. 10 that Flores' relationship with Grier and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa had "deteriorated."

The Dolphins, Giants and Denver Broncos are named in the suit, while the other 29 teams are also included as "John Doe teams." Flores said the Broncos held what he described as a "sham" interview with him in 2019. The suit alleges then-general manager John Elway, president and chief executive officer Joe Ellis and other members of the front office showed up to Flores' interview an hour late and hungover.

"They looked completely disheveled, and it was obvious that they had [been] drinking heavily the night before," the suit says.

The Broncos ultimately hired Vic Fangio as coach, with Flores saying his interview was only done to satisfy the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least one candidate from a historically excluded group for head-coaching and front-office positions.

Well, the NFL shot itself in the foot, if not the head. Their statement:

“The NFL and our clubs are deeply committed to ensuring equitable employment practices and continue to make progress in providing equitable opportunities throughout our organizations,” the league said in a statement. “Diversity is core to everything we do, and there are few issues on which our clubs and our internal leadership team spend more time. We will defend against these claims, which are without merit.”

So, here's their stance, just a few hours after the news broke: "Brian Flores is a total liar, and there is absolutely ZERO truth to any of it, and we will go away the way to defend the truth."

Talk about painting yourself into a corner. Did they say they might investigate first? Nope. They went into a complete personal attack on Flores, demonizing him.

And it looks like the media is believing most of what Flores said. But they do say, that like Colin Kaepernick, Brian Flores will never have another job in football. He will be blackballed.

But everyone knows the NFL DOES have a discrimination problem in head coaching, AND many people in leadership, including Commissioner Roger Goodell, have ADMITTED they are discriminating!

Nobody believe the NFL's statement.

And here's what the NFL needs to be scared of: DISCOVERY.

The reason that set off this lawsuit, it seems, is that Patriot's coach Bill Belichick sent Flores a text congratulating him on getting the nod for head coach for the Giants. Seems he texted the WRONG Brian. He said, sorry, It's Brian DABOLL that they are hiring.

Of course, this was three days BEFORE Flores was supposed to have an interview. Daboll WAS named the head coach two days later.

So, Belichick will be testifying under oath about how he knew this. Also, any emails or texts he received will have to be turned over. And in his text to Flores, he says "I misread the text". Well, he's going to have to turn over that text. Whee!

Interestingly the Giants hasn't called Belichick a liar yet. Will they?

But now Flores is entitled to ALL the print or electronic traffic among the NFL concerning the lack of black coaches in the NFL.

This is courageous, because we know he'll never work in the NFL again. He's sacrificing his career for all the black coaches to come.

I'd say he's a true American hero.

Okay, it's getting deeper for the NFL. Former Browns coach Hue Jackson says the Browns paid for losses, AND that Roger Goodell KNEW about it. Says he has proof:

Another Black former NFL coach claimed a team owner paid out bonus money for losing games, after recently fired Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores filed a lawsuit against three teams and the league.

Flores alleges that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,000 per loss in 2019 to ensure the team wound up with the first overall draft pick, and Pro Football Talk reported that former Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson made similar allegations -- which he claims he can prove.

"Trust me it was a good number!" Jackson tweeted.

Jackson, who is now head coach at Grambling, was fired by the Cleveland Browns in 2018 after compiling a 1-31 record during the team's rebuild, and it sounds as if he's willing to join Flores' class-action suit alleging racist hiring practices in the league and serious issues related to competition.

Kimberly Diemert, the executive director of Jackson's foundation, claimed that team executives Sashi Brown, Paul DePodesta and Andrew Berry were paid bonus money to lose in 2016 and 2017 -- and she also claimed the NFL and league commissioner Roger Goodell knew about the scheme.

"Congratulations Brian Flores on your bravery," she tweeted. "We have records that will help your case. [Direct message] me."

The agent for former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said the Lions conducted a sham interview with his client only to satisfy the NFL's Rooney Rule.

Austin, Lions defensive coordinator in 2014-17, was one of two in-house candidates and two minorities who interviewed for the head coaching job after Jim Caldwell was fired following the 2017 season. At the time, the Rooney Rule required NFL teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head coaching vacancies.

Caldwell went 36-28 in four seasons with the Lions. He led the organization to two playoff appearances, including an 11-5 record in 2014 — the franchise's best mark since 1991 — but was let go two years after the Lions fired general manager Martin Mayhew and president Tom Lewand at midseason.

Mayhew's replacement, Bob Quinn, hired his former colleague with the New England Patriots, Matt Patricia, as coach.

The Lions have gone 17-46-2 since Caldwell's dismissal and have had four straight losing seasons........

.....In 2003, then-Lions president Matt Millen was fined $200,000 for circumventing the Rooney Rule. Millen hired Steve Mariucci as head coach after firing Marty Mornhinweg, when he was turned down by several minority candidates for interviews who believed they had no legitimate chance at the job.

Former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores filed a class action race discrimination lawsuit Tuesday, alleging that the National Football League and three teams (the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants) were discriminatory in their interviews with him.

Former Colts coach Tony Dungy, who became the first Black coach to win a Super Bowl, says this might be "just the tip of the iceberg." On Feb. 4, 2021, Dungy wrote an open letter to NFL owners about the league's lack of minority hires. In the year since he wrote that letter, Dungy says that "not a lot has changed."

"The problem is we are not utilizing all of our resources because we aren’t truly embracing minority hiring in every aspect of our game," Dungy wrote in 2021. "Now I know there are many people who disagree with this statement. They would say, 'Every owner is trying to win and therefore you will always hire the best people.' But if you take a look at the hiring landscape of the last four years you will certainly come to the conclusion that is not true."

Dungy acknowledged that strides have been made — 70% of NFL players and 30% of assistants are Black. However, there is currently just one Black head coach among all 32 teams — Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin. Flores, who had two winning seasons with the Dolphins, was fired. David Culley was fired after one season with the Houston Texans.

"Look at the c-suites of your teams, the medical staffs, and the ultimate decision makers — the head coaches and GMs — and you’ll see those faces don’t represent what your teams look like," Dungy wrote last year. "And it has been discouraging to see that in the last three hiring cycles of head coaches, things have not been much different. Are we to believe that you’re really doing exhaustive searches, trying to uncover the best coaches, but only two out of the last 20 have been African Americans?"

The Miami Dolphins have been in the news a lot the past week, and on Sunday night it was finally for a good reason.

The Dolphins settled on Mike McDaniel as their next head coach. The team announced they'd agreed to a deal with McDaniel. McDaniel was the San Francisco 49ers' offensive coordinator.
