Palin takes the ice bucket challenge

Post by 47of74 »

Sarah Palin finally took the ice bucket challenge;
Sarah Palin has done "that ice bucket water dump thing," and you gotta hand it to the former vice presidential candidate -- she sure knows how to keep her viewers in suspense.

In one of the latest ALS "ice bucket challenge" videos, Palin channels actor Patrick Stewart, who wrote a check for charity and used the ice from a bucket to make himself a stiff drink. Except in this case, Palin's beverage of choice is a Diet Dr. Pepper.

"Hat tip to actor Patrick Stewart for reminding everyone with his video that the donation is the most important part of the #icebucketchallenge, not the frivolous water-tossing theatrics that those of us who are more thoughtfully serious choose to forgo," she writes in the Facebook post accompanying the video.

But just when you think Palin's about to make it out of this challenge warm and dry, she ends up soaked anyway, thanks to someone off-camera with a much bigger bucket of ice water than the one on her desk.

And might I recommend skipping all the bulls--t and going right to the good part at the end.

The problem with the ice bucket challenge is only 8% of the monies the ALS people collect goes to research.

You should look very carefully at this, glen:

Look at the links to the ALS charities.

What's sad is all the politicians taking the challenge and saying what a great thing this is, but they voted to cut ALS research funding.

Which ones did that? I've not been following this story at all.

The story has a slightly more nuanced take on it than your post might have indicated, however.

This http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/08/2 ... 96290.html, which was linked within your link, is interesting.

Incidentally, a young man who was a high-school friend of my older daughter and was a brilliant and promising medical researcher at UC Davis, just died of ALS at age 37. It's a terrible thing for the person who is slowly smothered by their own body and for the family and friends who spend years watching the decline. ben left 2 young kids.

I am glad to see that the ice bucket thing has already raised more than what the sequestration cut, but it would be nice if they now gave it up and found some other way to raise money.

I just made a point. I certainly wasn't hiding anything.

We are cutting basic medical research out of our budget, and that's something I don't believe should happen. Finding cures and treatments is in investment in our nation that pays off, it doesn't cost. I'd rather see a nation where basic medical research is fully funded and they need to hold a bake sale or ice bucket challenge to buy land to give land to Walmart for a new store.

I don't disagree with any of that, nor did I think you were hiding anything.

We already have to deal with the cow pies that come out every time she opens her mouth.

Glen made a claim. He has not responded.

Claim disqualified, as usual.
