New York mobster caught after fleeing from federal authorities

Authorities on Monday said they caught Dominic Taddeo, a convicted New York mobster and hitman who had fled from federal custody last week.

Taddeo was serving a roughly three-decade sentence for multiple offenses — including killing three people during mafia wars in the ’80s. His sentence was set to finish by the end of 2022 before he escaped from federal authorities last Monday.

Shipping Equipment Giants Abandon Merger After Justice Department Threatens to Sue - Deal Would Eliminate Competition and Harmed the Global Supply Chain

March 29, 2022 - Cargotec Corporation (Cargotec) confirmed today that it has abandoned its intended merger of equals with Konecranes Plc (Konecranes) one day after the Justice Department’s US DOJAntitrust Division informed the parties that the settlement proposal was not sufficient to address concerns that the proposed combination would eliminate important competition in four types of shipping container handling equipment used by port customers to move goods in the global supply chain.

“The Justice Department’s Antitrust Division will vigorously investigate potential violations of our antitrust laws, no matter the industry, no matter the company, and no matter the individual,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “The proposed merger of these two shipping equipment giants would have harmed American consumers. It threatened the global supply chain and the free and fair markets upon which the integrity of our economy depends. I commend the outstanding work of our Antitrust attorneys and investigators that led to this outcome and the cooperation of our enforcement partners around the world.”

Frank Gore retires as the third leading rusher in NFL history

After 16-years in the NFL, Frank Gore calls it a career just 2,355 yards shy of Emmitt Smith’s all-time rushing record. Gore will sign a one-day contract with the San Francisco 49ers to retire with the team that drafted him way back in 2005.

Gore ends his career as the third-leading rusher in league history, more than 1,000 yards ahead of the next active player on the list, Adrian Peterson. After Peterson, the next two active players are Mark Ingram and Ezekiel Elliot. Neither player has reached 8,000 yards to date. So, it’s safe to say Gore will be ranked third all-time for quite a few years.

Ryan Getzlaf choked up as he announced his retirement from the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, and he thanked everyone you would expect -- family, friends, owners, executives, coaches, teammates, trainers. He even thanked the arena workers.

After 17 seasons in Anaheim, the past 12 as captain of the Ducks, the 36-year-old center knows everyone's face at Honda Center, even if he doesn't know everyone's name.

WWE Reportedly Releases MSK’s Nash Carter

– Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reports that WWE has released NXT Tag Team Champion Nash Carter from the company. Carter’s release follows recent allegations of domestic abuse that were made by his wife, wrestler Kimber Lee.

Nash Carter (nee Zachary Green) and tag team partner Wes Lee just recently regained the NXT Tag Team Titles last Saturday at NXT Stand & Deliver, beating Imperium and The Creed Brothers in a Triple Threat Match to win back the titles. On last night’s NXT, WWE announced that MSK would be defending their titles against the team of Grayson Waller and Sanga on next week’s show. Clearly, that match is no longer happening.

Trigger bill to ban abortions fails in Nebraska Legislature

LINCOLN — A bill that would have primed Nebraska to ban all abortions died on the floor of the Legislature Wednesday.

Legislative Bill 933 failed to receive the 33 votes it needed to end an eight-hour filibuster, which effectively renders the bill dead with no other way to move forward. The final vote was 31-15, with three senators excused.

Frank Vogel to be fired as Lakers head coach, expected to be told as soon as Monday, per report

Frank Vogel has coached his final game for the Los Angeles Lakers, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. He is expected to be told as soon as Monday. The Lakers, winners of the 2020 NBA championship, entered the season as Western Conference favorites. They failed to live up to that mantle due to a combination of injuries, age, a poorly-built roster and mismanagement of that roster, and on Tuesday, they were officially eliminated from playoff contention. They closed the season with a 33-49 record. Now Vogel is paying the price for their failure and has been removed from his position as coach less than two years after leading the Lakers to the title.

When asked about the news that he would not be retained, Vogel fired back. "I haven't been told s--- and I'm going to enjoy tonight's game," Vogel told reporters. "We'll deal with tomorrow tomorrow."

LA political donor gets 30 years in prison for fetish deaths

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ed Buck told his neighbors that the steady stream of young Black men leaving his West Hollywood apartment were social work clients. What really happened behind closed doors, which he referred to as the “gates of hell,” was far more sinister.

The men did not need Buck’s help — they needed to be saved from him, said federal prosecutors in Los Angeles said. Some barely escaped with their lives. Two men didn’t.
