Breaking: Palmer recall results so far show landslide for removal of the Palmer Three

About 20 people gathered in the upstairs of the Palmer Alehouse to wait for the results of the special election to recall three members of the Palmer City Council. The polls closed at 8 pm, and when the numbers came in over an hour later, they cheered loudly — it was a landslide to recall the three who were on a special recall ballot.

The three had held secret meetings on Facebook in a closed group with a fourth council member, who has since left office. These meetings constituted illegal activity because they were not advertised or open to the public.

A roundup of Tuesday’s school board election results

A slate of Newark school board candidates backed by Mayor Ras Baraka easily swept three seats in Tuesday’s Board of Education elections, where voters in thirteen municipalities held elections in a state that has largely moved on from April elections.

First-time candidate Crystal Williams, a Central Ward resident and Version Communications employee, was the top vote-getter with 2,600 votes, followed by incumbents A’Dorian Murray-Thomas (2,559) and Daniel Gonzalez (2,475). They defeated Thomas Luna (1,087), Maggie Freeman (1,027), Philip Wilson (807) and Allison James-Frison (679).

Election handicappers shift more than a dozen House races toward GOP

Two election handicappers are collectively moving more than a dozen House races in the GOP’s favor, in the latest sign that Democrats are facing an increasingly bleak outlook in their bid to maintain control of the lower chamber in November’s midterms.

The Cook Political Report shifted eight House races in districts stretching from New York to Nevada toward Republicans on Wednesday.

Emmanuel Macron will win France's presidential election, pollsters project

Paris (CNN) Emmanuel Macron will win France's presidential election, pollsters project, fending off a historic challenge from right-wing candidate Marine Le Pen during Sunday's runoff vote.

Macron is projected to take 58.5% of the vote, according to an analysis of voting data by pollsters Ipsos & Sopra Steria conducted for broadcasters France Televisions and Radio, making him the first French leader to be reelected in 20 years. However, voter turnout was on track to be the lowest for a presidential runoff since 2002, according to government data released late afternoon local time. Ipsos & Sopra Steria projected an abstention rate of 28.2% for the second-round vote, which is also the highest since 2002.

Michigan Rrepublican Says A Family Is Made Up of, "A White Mom, White Dad and White Kids."

https://www.rawstory.com/trucker-2657205337/.

According to a report from the Detroit News, a far-right conservative radio host who is running for a seat in the state Senate as a Democrat, recently told listeners that he thinks families should be all white.

Last week "Trucker Randy" Bishop, who previously chaired the Antrim County Republican Party filed to run for a seat representing the 37th state Senate District as a Democrat.

That in turn has led to scrutiny of his radio rants, one of which in particular where he complained about how mixed families in commercials upset him.

As Craig Mauger of the Detroit News wrote, "Bishop, who goes by 'Trucker Randy,' made the comments on his March 31 show, according to a podcast that was still available.

Gotta love them there "Republican Family Values".

Hochul picks Delgado to be New York lieutenant governor, taking him out of House race

ALBANY, N.Y — Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday named Rep. Antonio Delgado as New York’s next lieutenant governor to fill the vacancy left by her former second-in-command, who was arrested on federal bribery charges and resigned last month.

Hochul called Delgado “a rising star with a resume to match” during the official announcement in Albany that was attended by his wife, Lacey, and their twin 8-year-old sons, Maxwell and Coltrane, who offered occasional commentary on the proceedings in matching gray blazers.

May the 4th be With You, folks.

Unfortunately, J.D. Vance won the Ohio primary.

I say that as he was the Trump favorite, and more notably, he's yet another presto-change-o who was a #nevertrumper in 2015, hinted that Trump reminded him of fascism, but has now gone full Trumpist in 2022.

Not gonna comment, but Nina Turner lost her primary - again.

Robert Regan, the Michigan Republican who said rape victims should “lie back and enjoy it,” even if the Woman being raped was one of his three daughters...just lie back and enjoy it.

Reagan lost his bid for the state House to Democratic opponent Carol Glanville in a special election on Tuesday.

The district Regan sought to represent, a conservative area north of Grand Rapids whose residents are primarily white, has only ever been held by Republicans.

I have received both an email and alert and a text message from the Marin County Registrar of Voters.

My Vote By Mail has been sent to me in the mail and I should receive it in 5-7 Days. After voting I can return the ballot by Mail, use a drop box, turn it in at my polling station or return at my polling station. I plan to use the Drop Box at the Marin City Public Library.

Happy Election Day everybody.

I received my voter information pamphlet last week and my mail-in ballot this morning. I'll probably go over both this weekend and make my choices. The hardest decisions are the ones for judges. The local bar association put out their ratings on judge candidates rating them either as fully qualified or qualified. They didn't make a recommendation as which ones to vote for.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — A congressional map approved by Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and drawn by his staff is unconstitutional because it breaks up a district where Black voters can choose their representatives, a state judge said Wednesday.

https://apnews.com/article/voting-right ... 0236b4bada

Leon County Circuit Judge Layne Smith said he would issue a formal order Thursday or Friday to keep the maps from taking effect in November’s election. He made it clear he would rule in favor of voting rights groups challenging the maps.

Smith said the order will likely replace the DeSantis map with one of two that the Legislature included in a bill and sent to DeSantis in March. The governor vetoed the bill and later called the Legislature back into special session. The Republican-dominated House and Senate chose not to draw a new map, and instead passed the DeSantis map.

A federal grand jury has issued at least one subpoena, and investigators are seeking interviews in the case of sensitive documents that ended up at the former president’s Florida home.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/05/12/us/p ... ified.html.

Federal prosecutors have begun a grand jury investigation into whether classified White House documents that ended up at former President Donald J. Trump’s Florida home were mishandled, according to two people briefed on the matter.

The intensifying inquiry suggests that the Justice Department is examining the role of Mr. Trump and other officials in his White House in their handling of sensitive materials during the final stages of his administration.

In recent days, the Justice Department has taken a series of steps showing that its investigation has progressed beyond the preliminary stages. Prosecutors issued a subpoena to the National Archives and Records Administration to obtain the boxes of classified documents, according to the two people familiar with the matter, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
