Mount Doane, named after Lt. Doane who lead a massacre against Native Americans, will now be called First Peoples Mountain.
A government panel has renamed a Yellowstone National Park mountain that had been named for a U.S. Army officer who helped lead a massacre of Native Americans.

Mount Doane will now be called First Peoples Mountain after the unanimous vote by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names, the National Park Service announced Thursday.

The 10,551-foot (3,200-meter) peak in southeastern Yellowstone in Wyoming had been named for Lt. Gustavus Doane, who in 1870 helped lead an attack on a band of Piegan Blackfeet in northern Montana.

Doane bragged for the rest of his life about what become known as the Marias Massacre. The attack in response to the alleged slaying of a white fur trader killed at least 173 American Indians, including many women, elders and children suffering from smallpox, Yellowstone officials said in a statement.

FDA orders Juul e-cigarettes to be taken off the market.
The Food and Drug Administration on Thursday ordered Juul to take all of its vapes off the market, eliminating a major player from the market.

“Today’s action is further progress on the FDA’s commitment to ensuring that all e-cigarette and electronic nicotine delivery system products currently being marketed to consumers meet our public health standards,” FDA Commissioner Robert M. Califf said in a statement. Juul did not have an immediate comment on the decision.

The FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products reviewed Juul’s applications for its menthol and tobacco-flavored vapes with 3 and 5 percent nicotine pods. Regulators found that the company’s data on the toxicity of its products was lacking and conflicting, which impeded the agency from fully assessing the vapes and their accompanying pods’ potential risks. Regulators also noted that to date, there is no way to know what harm could come from using third-party vape juice in Juul pods.

Good move on the FDA's part. Smoking and vaping are nasty addiction habits in which companies make money on killing and making people suffer.

No doubt, Juul will go to court and get an injunction against the FDA.

Landlord cancels lease on Lauren Boebert's restaurant.
Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., could lose her Hooters-inspired, gun-themed restaurant in a dispute with her new landlord.

The Colorado Republican told The Daily Beast she and her husband were surprised last week to receive notice from their landlord, a cannabis retailer, that their lease for Shooters would not be renewed after the building's ownership changed hands last month, and the lawmaker said they would have to find another location or close for good.

"She didn't explain exactly why her business was being kicked out," the website reported. "A person familiar with the arrangement said the property manager felt he had a 'moral' imperative to close the business, and had planned to lease the space to another restaurant."

Boebert repeatedly denied there was a political motivation to the sudden threat to her business, but county records show the deed transfer from father to son went through two days after the May 24 massacre at Robb Elementary School massacre in Uvalde, Texas, and the same day the lawmaker made news for remarking that "we didn't ban planes" after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Ghislaine Maxwell sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking minor girls for Jeffrey Epstein.
Ghislaine Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison Tuesday for carrying out a years-long scheme with her longtime confidante Jeffrey Epstein to groom and sexually abuse underage girls.

Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Maxwell to 30 to 55 years in prison, while the probation department recommended 20 years. Maxwell's attorneys requested a more lenient sentence of between 4.25 and 5.25 years in prison.

Judge Alison Nathan calculated that the sentencing guidelines called for about 15½ to 19½ years in prison. Yet she delivered a sentence slightly above that range, noting the victims' disturbing testimony and Maxwell's "direct and repeated participation in a horrific scheme."
"Miss Maxwell is not punished in place of Epstein," she said. "Miss Maxwell is being punished for the role that she played."
