New Disney Trailers

New Trailers - we still have no embed, but I'll give the links, I promise these are not rickrolls. :D

Moon Knight - "Secret Agent"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a64XjS2t3J8

Dunno much about this character ... seems to have a split personality?

Ms. Marvel - "Blinded by the Light" (may be the best music video for this song ever)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZbZoNW80oU

I love how even the opening of when she's just talking to her school counselor is kinda in "comic book style".

Kenobi
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztm71mIr0EA

Rumor has it this series will see the return on not just Ewan MacGregor, but also Hayden Christensen.

Wow 17 years since Revenge of the Sith, that story from 1977 spanning the generations wonder what the kids of 2039 will be watching. Maybe Rocky 47 or something, or the great grand prequal to Star Wars.

Yeah, my Jedi sense tells me the inability of Hollywood to come up with new IP is being mocked. Good thing I didn't mention Paramount's Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. (There are new actors and actresses playing Spock and Uhura ... and Kirk.) Whoopi Goldberg/Guinan is back for Picard Season 2.

Rocky.

Spaceballs shows the spines of videocassettes for Rocky I through XIV.
A movie poster for "Rocky XXXVIII" appears in the airport gift shop behind Sonny Bono in Airplane II.
A high-numbered Rocky sequel appears in a movie poster in Back to the Future part II.
The Weird Al Yankovic song The Rye or the Kaiser references a hypothetical Rocky XIII.

I just have to mention Mark Hamill is still tweeting, and I still love his tweets. That is all. :D

Hoory for Hollywood, that screwy ballyhooey Hollywood............

The Industry has always been good at describing itself. I do wait in anticipation of the parody of Star Wars MMCCLXVIII where everyone's in meetings about how to make their next armed clash a better subsidiary rights marketing opportunity in China and Thailand.

MGM just sold again!!!! Whoopie!!!!!!!!! Seriously, it's always a bad sign when someone buys MGM..... again........ whatever's left of a once mighty studio this go-round. It indicates that The Industry's decline into terminal mundane-ness has found a new bottom. MGM is basically a collection of business deals with a fancy name that used to mean a lot in the 1950s... that's 70 years ago now. The lot's gone, the star contracts are long gone, much of the library's gone... everything's gone. Mostly there are a few rights deals, a thriving casino business, and the name left.

Meanwhile every 100-foot 1000-footcandle full ultra-HD video screen in Times Square is flashing out plugs for yet another streaming service, each with the same carefully calculated product as the others. We see the future here. It's keeping a good part of the NYC business end of The Industry, you know the guys who wear suits to lunch instead of jogging clothes, solvent. Paramount has one. Disney has one. NBC has one. The big players are making their moves. Everyone's gonna have one, and then I presume they'll start eating each other and cranking the hype machine up another notch while cranking up subscription prices two notches to pay for all the hoopla.

The "eating each other" stuff is definitely happening. Marvel gobbled up the Sony/Fox properties, it is just a matter of time before the X-Men and F4 join the MCU along with Spidey, (all I can say about that is at least I have some hope they can pull X-Men out of the death spiral Fox put it into, uggggh Dark Phoenix, New Mutants) ... did I mention it's pretty much confirmed I, errr, Professor X, am in Multiverse of Madness? :D And the other news, all the Netflix stuff has been hoovered unto Disney+, including Defenders and Luke Cage and (weird, Iron Fist is missing :D ), and they've pretty much confirmed they are going to keep Charlie Cox as Daredevil and reboot that, though they are not indicating everything in the Netflix show is canon (even though it seems they are keeping Vince D as Kingpin).

As for the DCEU, what's left of the Arrowverse on CW seems to be migrating to HBOMax, it already has Titans, Doom Patrol, etc., and there seems to be speculation that the Snyderverse (i.e. Justice League 2, will it still have the Baffleckman?) is rejuvenated ... but again, it's all moving there. Seems like there are going to be spinoffs from Incarnation 4 or 5? of Batman ... on, shocker HBOMax (which already had the Peacemaker spinoff from Suicide Squad).

Yeah, everything's getting put behind streamwalls.

New franchises come around a couple of times a generation, and they get snapped up. Then the holders of same eat one another.

Fox, before it became a division of Rupert Murdoch International Propaganda, passed on the subsidiary rights to Star Wars. We know what happened after that. No one will ever make that mistake again. Now it's all about properties.

Several generations ago, it was the Five Little Kings and the star system. Now it's the law of the jungle.

In other words, it paralleled the evolution of capitalism from the successor of mercantilist slave plantations, through the whole thing with robber barons and company-town fiefdoms, where raw materials went in one end and products came out the other, to our current highly vaunted shipping-driven crown of creation, which as we see is a planetwide wealth pyramid with 5000 entrepreneurs/kleptocrats/apex predators/whatever at the top, whose darker moments precipitate supply chain disruptions that control the lives of the other 6.5 billion humans.

The only constant is that the rich get richer. That one seems to be the engine that pulls the whole train to nowhere.

Big hype over rumors that Disney employees were going to walk out today to protest the supposed lack of a strong response to Don't Say Gay. So far nothing unusual is happening at the Burbank lot and/or surrounding office buildings. Can't say for the theme parks.

Well, the assembled media got their pictures, but given how many people work for Disney, that's all there was to it. A photo op. Only a handful walked out, and they were careful to be sure and file right past the cameras.

Top management at Disney, as you'd expect at any company of this size and reach, will meet the problem with the best press releases and public statements that money can buy.

I really dug Moon Knight. Oscar Isaac took a tough role - three split personalities AND two superhero alter egos - knocked it out of the park. Of course, I love the character, dig the irony of him being a Jewish guy serving an Egyptian moon god.

She-Hulk trailer is out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7e-EYqvTq0

You finally get to see what she looks like in full 8 foot green CGI glory.

Series will be called "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law". Looks like they are following the comix, Jennifer Walters was Bruce Banner's cousin, a lawyer, and when he gave her a blood transfusion, she became ... well, you know.

Possible slight changeups: looks like Hulk has remained his smart self, but somehow his injured arm is healed. Walters will be representing supervillains as their legal counsel, looks like one of her clients might be the Abomination.

They are keeping a comedic feel to it - which is true to the comics, as She-Hulk was sorta Deadpoolish in the way she would joke around and break the 4th wall, and had, shall we say, an active personal life. (She dated around the Marvel universe, including Hercules, at one point.) I love the scene of her carrying the big muscled guy into her bedroom.

Some rumors Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) will also show up - maybe only again as his attorney self.

Ms. Marvel starts June 8th.

Some folks have already seen the 'pre screeners' and there seems to be some angst that it's too much of a teen drama, with her still being in high school, her little thought bubbles constantly popping up, etc. This is different from the first MCU Spider Man film ... how?

Deal with it, elder nerds. Not everything has to be catered to us, and I say that as I'm obviously not in the peak nerd demographic for the series. So fine it's a bit pitched to a younger audience. Things can vary! :D

Meanwhile, the MAGA nerds are fuming because they haven't fired Brie Larson yet, and she's a brown Muslim girl ... exactly like the comics. Sigh. I think the actress is awesome, strikes me as a good choice, just like the young lady they found for America Chavez.

Pox on both their houses. It does seem like they changed up her powers a bit, but I think I understand the reasons why.

I'm really digging the Ms. Marvel story.

Obviously, they switched up both her powers, and her origin. AFAICT, what we've seen so far is powers run in her family, and at least her great grandmother and other ancestors may have had some. They appear to be inherent to the family, but "triggered" by the "bangle".

Ep. 3 just dropped a huge clue which shows the "bangle" and the Ten Rings may be closely connected. Are they both Kree technology?

Guess we'll find out. I think Kamala is on her way to Pakistan to dig more into the family history/story (which is deeply intertwined with the Partition of 1947) and ... well ... I'm still interested to see where this goes.

They are clearly setting up connections between her and the two others for "The Marvels" film.

As for me, yeah, I'm glad that, too, brown girls from Jersey City can save the world.

Couple of articles on this

If Nobel winner Malala Yousafzai needs a role model, think about other brown girls. Marvel did | Opinion

Marvel’s first Muslim female superhero is the culture shift I've waited a long time to see
....Proud of who we are, where we came from and where we’ve made it to. Because Marvel’s first Muslim hero isn’t just a Muslim but a Muslim girl. And behind "Ms. Marvel" is a fantastic, diverse team, including other very talented Muslim women, whom we should all pay that much more attention to.

It’s one thing to see such a public challenge to ubiquitous Islamophobia. It’s another to see such a public rebuke to rampant misogyny in the very same gesture.

I’ve waited a long time to see this.....

I am really digging the music, and the focus on the continued effects of Partition.

Also lots of recent-immigrant stuff, and her brother married a Black girl!

The dad is cute.

I love how her and Kamran keep discussing Bollywood. Yeah, the music is awesome.

Image

Bust a move, Kamala. :D

Seems like she has somehow time-travelled back to 1947 for ep5. If I were to hazard a guess, she may "strange loop" herself into existence.

Her pal Nakia is going to make some changes at the mosque ... you go girl. I love the segment where they focus on different cliques at the mosque. Like the "illumine-aunties". :D

The dad is awesome. I have a feeling he was totally down with Kamala going to the 1st ep. avengers-con. But like a typical teenager, she was so embarrassed by dad painting himself green and "hulking out" that she dissed him with no regard to his feelings (or the effort that took). That was the only reason why he changed his mind.

BTW: the series finally explains a minor marvel mystery. How does the public actually know what went down in Endgame, especially as much of it occurred on other planets? :D Seems like Scott "Ant-Man" Lang podcasts about it! (I would say after Cpt. Marvel, he may well be her 2nd favorite superhero.)

The apparent explanation the series is using for her powers is that her family is descended from Djinn from the Noor, the Realm of Light.

https://www.slashfilm.com/912093/what-i ... explained/

It's changing things up for sure from the comics, but I like how they are tying her into traditional cultural mythology with her origin, and the Noor reminds me a lot of the Duat that they showed in Moon Knight. These aren't full alternate universes, but they are other dimensions. (Kinda seems like the inverse of Dormammu's Dark Dimension). Yet "incursions" can still be a problem, and people from one dimension can get stuck in another.

If her gr-gran Ayesha was part-djinn, given how the djinn (who are part of pre-Islamic Arab folklore) are viewed in Islam, it may explain why they often don't speak about her in the family and she became a "black sheep".

It's funny. Her powers don't enable her to fly, and she's still learning how to drive. But she's working on that move where she walks across self-generated discs of light. Almost like flying.

Image

That's how she got up there. :D

I love how she's gradually evolving into her own iconic costume from the comics (instead of just cosplaying Brie Larson's Captain Marvel) ... which incorporates some traditional Pakistani elements.

Probably should have done a Ms. Marvel thread. But anyhoo.

Episode 6 - spoiler warning?

She gets her proper costume, she gets her proper superhero name, and Bruno tells her she's a mutant, cue X-men theme music ... oh and she gets her iconic sitting on a lamp-post scene.

(This kinda changes around the comics, where she's an Inhuman, and her abilities are triggered by terrigen mist...)

The action is mostly managing to get Kamran smuggled out of the country so he can join the Red Daggers in Pakistan. His powers seem a bit ... similar, but more intense, maybe more malevolent, than Kamala's. Damage Control is shut down hunting both of them down ... for now.

I did pick up on how the folks in the mosque were used to nosy and angry feds busting into the place and so knew how to handle the DC agents ... also, how one of the agents mumbled, "this is what happens when the wrong kind of people get powers." :|

And now that post credits scene!

Did she turn INTO Carol Danvers? BTW, in the comics, shapeshifting was one of her powers, and she DID do this, initially.
Did they switch places? (Which uh oh ... where was Carol when this happened?)

Obviously, this is all left a cliffhanger until the Marvels ....
