Persons of Note Who Have Passed Away
Re: Persons of Note Who Have Passed Away
Personally speaking, I don't think the guy who invaded that massive threat to U.S. security, Grenada, should get the Peace Prize.
Then there's also him illegally supporting violent insurgents in Nicaragua by selling missiles to Iran.
He also opposed a nuclear freeze and began a massive buildup of the U.S. nuclear weapon arsenal. Oh and that "Star Wars" stuff we spent billions on - I'm glad Iron Dome works, BUT it still can't stop space-based ICBMs.
Maybe on some other planet that gets you a Peace Prize. On mine, I wouldn't give it out.

That warmongering SOB made actual war all over Central America to "defeat communism" and these dupes like Glennfs were all for it.bird wrote: ↑Tue Aug 30, 2022 4:48 pm An interesting idea.
A couple of things…
Gorbachev was trying to save the USSR. To make the claim that “we” or that “Reagan” defeated communism is spurious at best. The truth is much more complex. Such is on the same level as “we defeated the Nazis”.
From the inside it has been noted that Reagan needed Gorbachev much more than Gorbachev needed Reagan. The “defeated communism” meme is for internal agitprop in the U.S.
That being said the actual flashpoint was the collapse of the Berlin Wall, imo.
The region is STILL paying for it today, in governments that have become every bit as bad as the anti-commie repressive regimes they were trying to throw off.

Oh my goodness, this tiny island country that mainly grows nutmeg wants to finish the airstrip for its one airport that some of the world's most vicious colonizers never finished. Oh my goodness is KEEYOUBBA helping them!?!?!?!?!
Oh my goodness, we better bomb them or else!!

Re: Persons of Note Who Have Passed Away
Ronald Reagan was the SAG president who fracked the actors over in a sweetheart deal with one of the studios regarding TV syndication.
For his punishment, he was elected governor of California, after he promised to defund the university and raise tuition so high that only rich Republican kids could afford to go. Later he ordered an attack on the Berkeley campus using a helicopter dropping military chemical agents on a student demonstration.
For his punishment, he was elected president. On the day of his inauguration the hostages "just happened" to be released. They stepped off the plane onto US soil just as he took the oath. He made war fun again.
They investigated him for that arms for hostages / giving aid and comfort to the country's sworn enemy "coincidence." Went on for months. He got off on basically an insanity defense. He's just an old Patriot, can't impeach him. Pretty bogus.
Now UCLA named its health center after the governor who put it into a 20 year budget crisis it's still getting over.
For our punishment, we have to put up with this shit.

Country Artist, Cowboy, & Troubadour Luke Bell Has Died at 32
He was one of the most authentic and magnetizing artists to grace the country music art form in the modern era. And those who knew Luke Bell, they know this assessment is in no way hyperbole or flattery. Even though he released only one album, in that single volume, Luke Bell captured a bygone era, aura, and mood in country music that escapes even the most adept and gifted of country music artists today. They’re addled by the filter of modernity that Luke Bell was strangely immune from. He was not of this time or place, and never fit in it comfortably. That was his gift, and his burden. As troubled as he was talented, Luke Bell nonetheless left his mark. And through the gift of his music, Luke Bell leaves the Earth and more pleasant place than he found it.
Having gone missing on Saturday, August 20th in Tucson, Arizona, Luke Bell was found today, August 29th, 2022, not far from where he disappeared, and in a manner we all feared he would be when we first heard the news. Confirmed by Saving Country Music through Luke Bell close friend, confidant, and the guy whose been caring for him for the last six years—traditional country artist Matt Kinman—Luke Bell has passed away at the age of 32.

If you were to look at the list I am pretty confident that you would agree that the other 9 in the top 10 were correct. Now you might not agree with their position on the list but, you would agree that they were top 10.
But, I could be wrong considering the list was put together by academic scholars and historians. Evidently liberals are anti scholar. :}

Re: Persons of Note Who Have Passed Away
The deal had a sweetheart clause with Universal, which was one of the biggest syndicators along with Warners and Desilu at the time. He was president of SAG and he sold out his own union. My parents and their actor friends could barely say Ronzo's name without becoming livid. I don't know more details since I'm not even sure I was born at the time, but that's what the narrative handed down by insiders always said. There was no reason not to believe it.
After that, Ronnie was a corporate trained seal, fronting those old-school TV shows they don't do any more where the sponsor bought the whole hour and the commercials were partially integrated into the program itself as opposed to now when they just buy time through agencies. This too is way before my time, but there are enough old kinescopes surviving to show what it was like. Ronnie did his lines like the best trained seal in the biz. He sold appliances, soap, you name it. He got a rep as someone that the big money people could trust to sell their side of the story in a convincing manner any time there was a camera in the room, and his political career went from there.
I already told you how he became governor of California. He said he'd get rid of the dirty hippies infesting UC campuses. All couple hundred of them, in a huge multi-campus system with hundreds of thousands of students. All the real hippies I ever saw on campus were later than the period in question, and they were 99% FBI agents who asked too many questions so no one trusted them. This earlier period is when there might have actually been one or two SDS members and maybe even 100 BSU members in the mix. The rest is history. He won the election, and he attacked the Berkeley campus with a military helicopter dropping military-grade incapacitating chemical agents. He defunded the university, saying he wasn't going to give tax money to nonexistent dirty idle hippies and outside agitators. He forced the board of regents to impose tuition, which has been going up and up ever since. I'm sure it's all documented somewhere online.
For his sins, he was punished with hero status in California politics. By then, he was hanging with the right wing of the movie biz, a rather odd cabal funded by a pharmacy magnate and a used car dealer. The rest is history.
From my very first conscious state, it was plain that Ronzo was a shill for big money, and I must say he didn't disappoint in the presidency. We're still suffering the consequences from what he put into our politics. I have nothing more to say on the subject because I get too angry. Research it yourself, if you know how.

Beyond that the presidency has become much like managing in baseball. Presidents get too much credit and too much blame. what is necessary is picking the best people as possible as opposed to hacks. You know, hacks like James Watt for example. The job has become impossible to do. The concept of general staff command applies but even then with a government as complex as the U.S. even staff command would suffer from informational noise and overload not to mention idiot pundits and a supremely idiotic electorate.
An even better example of Reagan's incompetence was signing into law taxing of Social Security benefits. Personally, I don't give a damn where that idea originated from. If it was a Democratic politician then shame on them. If it was a Republican, well, that would be unsurprising since Republicans have hated Social security since its inception. Reagan could have made a point and vetoed the bill but no.
Re: Persons of Note Who Have Passed Away
The popular president list is completely subjective, and it tends to change as the memory of the person becomes replaced by the legend of the person.
I forgot to note that Ray Gun opened the door for all the other shills and fat-cat sycophants who came to overrun DC and cause the loss of our industry which we now hear about daily every time the words "supply chain" come up. He also caused the first homeless problem in CA when he closed the mental facilities. As president, he turned the bull loose, as ordered explicitly in that famous fat-cat quote. The bull gored the middle class, causing much of the subsequent inequality and poverty that made this a third world country in places like LA and Jackson, leading to much of our current crime and instability issues.
We don't even mention Iran/Contra. What's the point? His whole first presidential campaign was a lie and a conspiracy bigger than Watergate, including a secret weapons deal with a terrorist foreign leader holding Americans hostage. Then he secretly funded a bloody war that Congress never authorized, but nobody cared so why should I spend any more time on it?
What did we get for all this? "Morning in America." Smells like a psyop to me. Damn good one, too. Just about everyone got fooled. Not even worth talking about, the BS is too thick to cut with rational thought about real historical truths.

Exactly! Because we have a familiarity with recent presidents our biases towards them comes into play.
The next year, me made a point about how his budget called for funding for mental health facilities which was nothing more than reinstating the funding he cancelled a year earlier.I forgot to note that Ray Gun opened the door for all the other shills and fat-cat sycophants who came to overrun DC and cause the loss of our industry which we now hear about daily every time the words "supply chain" come up. Former GM Lee Thomas, architect of '93 Phils, dies at 86
When the Phillies hired Lee Thomas on June 21, 1988, the new general manager faced a daunting task.
The team he was taking over was well on its way to losing 96 games. He would be working with a constricted payroll. And he was the third person to hold the position in less than a year. His immediate predecessor, Woody Woodward, had been fired two weeks earlier after less than nine months on the job.

R.I.P Everett “Bigfoot” Martin: King Of The Journeymen
In sad news, it has been reported that ring warrior Everett “Bigfoot” Martin has passed away at the age of 58. Details are sketchy at the moment but all fans who remember Martin – a man who really did fight ’em all – have been paying their respects to the fighter with the unusual nickname.
Going pro down at super-middleweight in August of 1984, Martin would go on to become one of the most tough, resilient, consistently testing heavyweights of the sport. They call guys like Martin “journeymen,” or “trial horses,” but Martin was different in that he could sometimes score the big win.
