I talked about George Stinney, Jr. on the old board. This is a case from 1944 -- oh look, it's in South Carolina -- in which a 14 year old was railroaded into the death penalty for supposed murders of two white girls.

http://radiofreeliberal.com/viewtopic.php?p=1173#p1173

GoU quoting this Slate article:

What do originalists want? Let's take a look at the head of the Federalist Society, Leonard Leo:
In the 1930s, women had no constitutional right to equality. They could legally be kept off juries, given different work hours, paid less money, and imprisoned for using birth control. It would be another four decades before the Supreme Court struck down even a single law for discriminating against women. Kavanaugh and Gorsuch—again, both products of Leo’s vetting—recently dissented from the court’s temporary blocking of a Louisiana law that would have left the entire state with just a single doctor able to perform abortions.

In the first half of the 20th century, the police could beat confessions out of arrestees. Poor defendants had no right to a lawyer. Evidence could be illegally seized and used in prosecutions. In 1944, for example, South Carolina executed a 14-year-old black boy named George Stinney for the murders of two white girls. He was questioned alone, without his parents or a lawyer present, and convicted by an all-white jury after a two-hour trial and 10 minutes of deliberation. He wasn’t allowed to appeal. He had to sit on books to fit into the headpiece of the electric chair. Only in 2014, 70 years too late, did a circuit court judge vacate the 14-year-old Stinney’s murder conviction. The Stinney case tells you all you need to know about criminal justice in the age Leo wants to bring back.
For context, this little guy was 2 years older than my father. My father could have BEEN this guy, anywhere in this country.

An Undying Mystery: George Stinney - The Post and Courier, 2018 series
In 1944, George Stinney Jr. became the youngest person ever executed in South Carolina at age 14. He was accused of bludgeoning two white girls to death and convicted by an all-white jury in a matter of minutes. Now, more than 70 years later, new evidence suggests someone else may have committed the murders. The Post and Courier explores this haunting tale that still plagues the small town of Alcolu.
In 1944, George Stinney was young, black and sentenced to die

Young lawyer dusts off old evidence to cast doubt on George Stinney’s conviction

Quest to clear George Stinney’s name draws new scrutiny to another man

New details emerge about an alternate suspect in Alcolu girls’ murders

Despite racial wounds, Alcolu residents unite to preserve memories of a bygone heyday

Speaking of boys and men, the Scottsboro Boys actually ranged from ages 13-20.

Oh look, this happened in Tennessee. With another all-white jury full of violent white cons. :problem:

Scottsboro Boys - wiki
The Scottsboro Boys were nine African American teenagers and young men, ages 13 to 20, accused in Alabama of raping two white women in 1931. The landmark set of legal cases from this incident dealt with racism and the right to a fair trial. The cases included a lynch mob before the suspects had been indicted, all-white juries, rushed trials, and disruptive mobs. It is commonly cited as an example of a legal injustice in the United States legal system.

On March 25, 1931, two dozen people were "hoboing" on a freight train traveling between Chattanooga and Memphis, Tennessee, the hoboes being an equal mix of blacks and whites. A group of white teenage boys saw 18-year-old Haywood Patterson on the train and attempted to push him off, claiming that it was "a white man's train".[1] A group of whites gathered rocks and attempted to force all of the black men from the train. Patterson and the other black passengers were able to ward off the group. The humiliated white teenagers jumped or were forced off the train and reported to the city's sheriff that they had been attacked by a group of black teenagers. The sheriff deputized a posse, stopped and searched the train at Paint Rock, Alabama and arrested the black Americans. Two young white women were also taken to the jail, where they accused the African-American teenagers of rape. The case was first heard in Scottsboro, Alabama, in three rushed trials, in which the defendants received poor legal representation. All but 13-year-old Roy Wright were convicted of rape and sentenced to death (the common sentence in Alabama at the time for black men convicted of raping white women), even though there was no medical evidence indicating that rape had taken place.[2]

With help from the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the case was appealed. The Alabama Supreme Court affirmed seven of the eight convictions, and granted 13-year-old Eugene Williams a new trial because he was a minor. Chief Justice John C. Anderson dissented, ruling that the defendants had been denied an impartial jury, fair trial, fair sentencing, and effective counsel. While waiting for their trials, eight of the nine defendants were held in Kilby Prison. The cases were twice appealed to the United States Supreme Court, which led to landmark decisions on the conduct of trials. In Powell v. Alabama (1932), the Court ordered new trials.[3]

The case was first returned to the lower court and the judge allowed a change of venue, moving the retrials to Decatur, Alabama. Judge Horton was appointed. During the retrials, one of the alleged victims admitted to fabricating the rape story and asserted that none of the Scottsboro Boys touched either of the white women. The jury found the defendants guilty, but the judge set aside the verdict and granted a new trial.

The judge was replaced and the case tried under a judge who ruled frequently against the defense. For the third time a jury—now with one African-American member—returned a guilty verdict. The case was sent to the US Supreme Court on appeal. It ruled that African Americans had to be included on juries, and ordered retrials.[4] Charges were finally dropped for four of the nine defendants. The other five were convicted and received sentences ranging from 75 years to death. All but two of these served prison sentences; all were released or escaped by 1946. In 1936 one of the "boys", Ozzie Powell, was shot in the face and permanently disabled during an altercation with a sheriff's deputy in prison. He later pleaded guilty to assaulting the deputy. Two men escaped, were later charged with other crimes and convicted, and sent back to prison. Clarence Norris, the oldest defendant and the only one sentenced to death in the final trial, "jumped parole" in 1946 and went into hiding. He was found in 1976 and pardoned by Governor George Wallace. By this time, the case had been thoroughly analyzed and shown to be an injustice to the men. Norris later wrote a book about his experiences. He died in 1989 as the last surviving defendant.

"The Scottsboro Boys", as they became known, and their case have been thoroughly analyzed. It is now widely considered a legal injustice, highlighted by the state's use of all-white juries. Black Americans in Alabama had been disenfranchised since the late 19th century and were therefore not allowed on juries, which were limited to voters. The case has also been explored in many works of literature, music, theatre, film and television. On November 21, 2013, Alabama's parole board voted to grant posthumous pardons to the three Scottsboro Boys who had not been pardoned or had their convictions overturned.[5]

This guy was 16 and put to death by the state in 1931.

The so-called whites in the OP picture were supporting this system which had not changed in 26 years.

65 years later, one of these people is an elite. Where are those Black students in the photo, now; what did they get for having to wade into that cesspool of white-conservative violence just to go to class. :problem:

Charges Dismissed for Black Teen Who Was Executed 91 Years Ago - WCAU
More than 90 years after he became the youngest person to be executed in Pennsylvania's history, charges have been dismissed against a Black teen who was sentenced to death by an all-white jury.

District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer announced Monday that the case against Alexander McClay Williams has been nol prossed following a successful joint motion.

“By acting to nol pros the case against Williams, today’s decision is an acknowledgement that the charges against him should never have been brought,” a spokesperson for the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office wrote.

Williams, a 16-year-old Black student at the Glen Mills School for Boys, was convicted and sentenced to death at the Media Courthouse on February 27, 1931. He remains the youngest person executed in Pennsylvania’s history.

“Sadly, we cannot undo the past. We cannot rewrite history to erase the egregious wrongs of our forebearers,” Stollsteimer said. “However, when, as here, justice can be served by publicly acknowledging such a wrong, we must seize that opportunity."

On October 3, 1930, 34-year-old Vida Robare, a white house matron at the Glen Mills School for Boys, was found murdered inside her cottage on the school grounds. Her body was discovered by her ex-husband Fred Robare, who was also an employee at the school.

Williams was arrested and charged with Robare’s murder. On October 24, 1930, William H. Ridley, the first African American lawyer to join the Delaware County Bar Association, was appointed to represent Williams.
When all else fails, blame the blacks. #negrocrime

It still works for these conservative whites, and cases like these are the reasons they do not want American history taught in public schools, only WS American-exceptionalist propaganda. Lol good luck to them with that.

These kids were trying to go to school in the era of all-white juries. So were the kids blocking them.

All White Jury Frees Klan Members - Library of Congress
Civil rights activist Viola Liuzzo was shot and killed on March 25, 1965, as she drove African American civil rights marcher Leroy Moton in her car from Montgomery to Selma, Alabama. Four Ku Klux Klan members, Eugene Thomas, William Eaton, Collie Leroy Wilkins, Jr., and Thomas Rowe, Jr., were arrested and tried.

Artist Howard Brodie drew the all-white, all-male jury that served at one of the multiple trials. While Rowe, an FBI informant, received immunity for his testimony, Thomas, Eaton and Wilkins, were acquitted in state trials. On December 3, 1965, the three men received ten-year sentences on a federal charge of conspiracy to deprive Liuzzo of her civil rights. As a result of Liuzzo's death, President Johnson petitioned Congress to increase the scope of the Federal Conspiracy Act of 1870 to include the death of civil rights workers. Her death also helped raise support for the passage of the Voting Rights Act, Pub. L. 89-110.

I sure hope for this board's sake none of these conservative whites around here are informants. :?

This wasn't even 8 years after the Little Rock incidents. :?

Liuzzo, Viola - Encyclopedia of Detroit
Viola Liuzzo was a civil rights activist who was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan as she drove another activist from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, during the Selma Voting Rights March.

Born Viola Gregg in Pennsylvania on April 11, 1925, she was raised in poverty in Georgia and Tennessee during the Great Depression, where she witnessed segregation first-hand. She later moved to Michigan, married Teamster Anthony Liuzzo in 1950, and attended Wayne State University. She became active in the Detroit chapter of the NAACP.

A middle-class, white mother of five children, Liuzzo was spurred to join the efforts of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the marchers after seeing televised footage of hundreds of peaceful protestors being clubbed and tear-gassed by police on the Edmund Pettus Bridge on March 7, 1965. Soon afterward, she drove her Oldsmobile 800 miles to Selma. On March 25, she was driving 19-year-old Leroy Moton, an African American, to Montgomery, when a car carrying four KKK members began chasing them. The KKK members’ car pulled alongside Liuzzo’s, and they shot her in the head, killing her instantly. Moton was not hit and survived by playing dead.

Within 24 hours of the murder, President Lyndon Johnson went on television to announce the arrests of the KKK members – Eugene Thomas, Collie Leroy Wilkins, Jr., William Orville Eaton, and Gary Thomas Rowe – and demanded an immediate Congressional investigation of the KKK. Rowe was protected by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as one of its paid informants and testified against the other men. The KKK members were all acquitted in the Alabama courts, despite eyewitness testimony and ballistics evidence, but found guilty of violating Viola Liuzzo’s civil rights by a federal grand jury and sentenced to ten years in prison.

Liuzzo’s funeral in Detroit was attended by many dignitaries, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Walter Reuther. Yet after her death her reputation was slandered, as false accusations were made about her morality, dedication to her family, and drug use. In 1978, documents released through the Freedom of Information Act revealed that FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover masterminded the smear campaign, fearful of the FBI’s culpability of informant Gary Rowe in the murder. Liuzzo’s children were threatened and taunted, and a cross was burned on their lawn, prompting the need for round-the-clock guard for the next two years.
^how conservative whites treat other whites.
A martyr of the Civil Rights Movement, and the only white woman killed during that struggle, her death was not in vain; it is believed to have helped spark the passing of the Voting Rights Act just five months later. Viola Liuzzo has received many posthumous awards, including the prestigious Ford Freedom Humanitarian Award. In 2015, Wayne State University awarded her an honorary Doctor of Laws degree, its first posthumous grant.
Viola Liuzzo did not have to be a martyr. These conservative whites did not have to do what they did to her, to the rest of the people fighting just to put a ballot in a box. She still stands as the ultimate niggerlover treatment. This niggerlover/niggerbaiting mentality is in full operation today, and right on this small messageboard.

Well as you know I wasn't in much of a mood after the Ohio State debacle. Then Sunday I went to Cherokee NC to play in a WSOP event.
So I've been a little busy living and enjoying life. Something devoid from many liberals ( not you) But many here seem to live in and embrace sorrow.

So let's talk about getting into coaching.

First not everyone who plays football is qualified or able to teach or coach football.

Second coaching football on a high level is a terrible job especially at entry level. It is 12 to 14 or more hour days 7 days a week. While paying very little. Also football has to come ahead of everything including family.
No going to birthdays or holidays or school events etc. Again it is a terrible lifestyle that does not appeal to many people.

Third and this goes hand in hand with two. While there are some exceptions but, if you were a star player or were financially successful chances are you aren't going to want to be an entry level coach which is little better than being a gopher.

Forth players with baggage deserved or not are not going to be considered to be coaching candidates.

So we have now eliminated most former players regardless of race. Leaving a very small pool to select from.
Let's continue

Fifth going from entry level to head coach takes 15 to 20 years. During that time you are going to have to pull up stakes and move 8 to 10 times. Plus there are only 32 jobs at any one time along with maybe 400ish assistant jobs.
So if you are a successful assistant coach but never get the nod to head coach you will spend 25 to 30 years as an assistant and move your family probably 20 times.

So at the end of the day it is a lousy job that does not appeal to many people. One that takes over a decade for most people to go from player to assistant to head coach. One that doesn't appeal to many people and the unwritten rules mentioned here eliminates most.

Lastly there are currently two African American coaches who have dotted all the eyes and crossed all the T's who should be top candidates after this season.

You never fail to shoot yourself in the mouth, do you?

So, this is a twist. Saying that coaching is a job that's BENEATH black people.

What you're saying is that the reason blacks aren't NFL head coaches is that they aren't willing to work hard for little money. So all the jobs go to whites. What BULLSHIT.
Lastly there are currently two African American coaches who have dotted all the eyes and crossed all the T's who should be top candidates after this season.

Eric Bienienmy and Byron Leftwich
Just two?

The Colts just hired a man with absolutely no coaching experience at any level to be the coach, ignoring TWO Colts coaches that ALREADY have head coaching experience!

So, the NFL owners AREN'T interested in getting the best, most qualified coach for the job. They are interested in hiring their white buddies.

And you say, out of all the black assistants in the NFL, only TWO are, in your humble opinion, qualified to be a head coach.

They're the ONLY ONES more qualified than Jeff Saturday, right?

Well, hell, the NFL.com itself disagrees with you. This 2021 article from the website begs to differ:
There are several well-known minority coaches with previous head-coaching experience; Todd Bowles, Jim Caldwell, Leslie Frazier, Vance Joseph, Marvin Lewis and Raheem Morris spring to mind. And a few minority coordinators -- like Eric Bieniemy and Byron Leftwich -- continue to pop up in coaching-carousel discussions.

But if we really want things to change, we would do well, as a league and within the football community, to be even more expansive when it comes to minority coaches who are considered potential candidates for open jobs and promotions. Too many worthy individuals remain undervalued and overlooked.

So, as we approach another hiring cycle this winter, I'd like to personally vouch for some names you might not be as familiar with.

NOTE: This is not a list of buzzy names accumulated via second-hand information, nor is it a comprehensive rundown of every qualified minority candidate. I have made a concerted effort over the years to closely observe the following coaches in person and/or spend time with them. Thus, the two lists below provide just a slice of the innumerable minority candidates who deserve a closer look.
There are MANY qualified black candidates. The thing about Bieniemy and Leftwich is that they are heads above the white candidates they are up against.

But go ahead with your "blacks are too lazy to be coaches" crap.

So you don't think there are any more than two black people in this nation that can be a successful NFL coach. So, whites are just better, aren't they?

Same argument made over black quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes proves that wrong.

So, this is a twist. Saying that coaching is a job that's BENEATH black people.

What you're saying is that the reason blacks aren't NFL head coaches is that they aren't willing to work hard for little money. So all the jobs go to whites. What BULLSHIT.

There are MANY qualified black candidates. The thing about Bieniemy and Leftwich is that they are heads above the white candidates they are up against.

But go ahead with your "blacks are too lazy to be coaches" crap.

I would like to address everyone on your list but don't have the time.
Marvin Lewis was an excellent co5anc I don't know why he hasn't gotten another job. I believe it is because he had enough and wasn't interested.

Let's loom at the first name on your list.
Todd Bowles
2 years as a college assistant with 2 different teams.
Then 9 years as an NFL assistant 6 teams.
11 years 8 moves.
Then a head coaching job where he failed
Then went back to being an assistant and now head coach of Tampa where he will probably be fired at the end of the season.

10 or 11 moves on his career. Which is probably below average.
Record of 31-46.

The fact that there are 6 names on your list and the best coach on the NFL today is Pittsburgh coach shows that African Americans are getting chances. When they go through the same crap as everyone else.

It also bolsters my argument that there just isn't that many people regardless of race who are willing to go through the 10 to 20 years of crap.
