Nice post, Bird. But since this is Glenn's "hate transgender" thread, I'm going to post this link from the ACLU,
Four Myths of Trans Athletes Debunked.
And those myths are:
FACT: Including trans athletes will benefit everyone.
MYTH: The participation of trans athletes hurts cis women.
FACT: Trans athletes do not have an unfair advantage in sports.
MYTH: Trans athletes’ physiological characteristics provide an unfair advantage over cis athletes.
FACT: Trans girls are girls.
MYTH: Sex is binary, apparent at birth, and identifiable through singular biological characteristics.
FACT: Trans people belong on the same teams as other students.
MYTH: Trans students need separate teams.
Complete explanations at the links.
You know, Glenn doesn't get it. He doesn't understand transgenderism at all. To be honest, I don't either, but I have an open mind and I'm learning.
Glenn really thinks all that happens is that a make athlete who isn't that good at his sport, just wears a wig and a dress, calls himself transgender and then cleans up against weaker girls. Of course, our media including Hollywood, perpetuates this falsehood. I remember a movie from 2006 called
She's the Man where a pretty young cisgender girl cuts her hair and pretends to be a boy so she can play soccer when the girls team is disbanded. Of course, she's not trans, she's a hot girl under the baggy clothes, and she falls in love with one of the boys... Oh, anyone could write this script...
As an aside, there was another movie that I enjoyed from the eighties, called
Just One of the Guys, with a similar plot, only without sports involved. However, in looking the movie up, I note that the theatrical poster showed the girl in a locker room with guys, using two football helmets to cover her breasts. Note: if you watched the movie, she didn't need football helmets to cover up...
I do believe, if memory serves, both movies required the female to flash a huge crowd to prove they were, indeed, female, and the homophobic movie guys were spared the scary thought that it was a guy that they were falling in love with. But they are cute and fun comedies. Actually,
Just One of the Guys did have some fun writing and was quite witty.
