Looks to me like the vaccine mandates so far has worked, plus the mask mandates, has driven the numbers way down since early September. Numbers nationwide are still about five times those in June, but headed down quickly. 22% change in the last 14 days.

The hotspots now are Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and North Dakota.

I remember when our resident self-proclaimed infectious disease expert, Joe Memphis, told us there was no reason to do anything like mask mandates in low-population areas, that they didn't need to do anything to stay safe.

Guess Joe's viewpoint is, in the famous words of Ron Zeigler, "inoperative".

What I believe you and others here are missing is if we have 2 million loads of freight not get delivered every week in 10 weeks that would be 20 000 000 loads.
That would cause major shortages while running up shipping costs and on top of that increasing demand which would also run up prices.
An average load of freight is about 30,000 pounds. The tonnage of freight sitting after 10 weeks would be massive.

None of that is lost on me.

Let them quit and let others move into those jobs. We’re not dependent on these confederates.

I agree with that. The point I am making is I am willing to bet that between 40 and 60 pct of my fellow truckers are not vaccinated.
With the majority of those believing the nonsense about vaccines that we have all heard. I believe that saying 100k would quit is a low estimate. But even 100k would cause a dramatic effect on the country.
I towed a car recently for a guy who believes the vaccines are intentionally going to kill us. Because the government's of the world want to decrease world population
Not because they think there are to many people. But, to enslave those who survive.
That is the mentality we are dealing with.

Believe me I am not talking down to you. But, driving a truck is a learned and acquired skill. Not unlike an electrion or a plumber. You can't just magically move others into those jobs.

Not on the same level. It takes more education for electricians or plumbers. I'm not denigrating truckers, but it's not the same. Oh, there's some subsets - like Hasmat and such - that requires a higher level, but my cousin got in really easy to OTR trucking, and was a Owner-Operator within a few short years. Our uncle taught him.

Anyone who has driven on I 80 between San Francisco and Reno across Donner Pass in the summer or especially in the winter in a fully loaded semi might disagree with you.
I don't know about electricians but I have friends in plumbing and it isn't that tough

I'd say flying an airplane is tougher.

Again, I'm not denigrating truckers, but I think you're exaggerating.

Way tougher but, as you know many people think that because they can drive a car they can drive a truck.

It is like a weekend golfer or bowler or poker player thinking they can compete on a professional level.
Biden got bad advice on mandates as much as you and I would like to see them entact and work.
He needs to find a way to politically and tactfully back track from that policy

No, the mandates are needed. But your side listens to Trump and his lies.

Again there is to much at stake to allow 100k or so trumpers to destroy or wreak havoc on the economy.
You and I are vaccinated if it works then we don't have much to worry about.
Shippers and receivers and truck stops etc can require masks. Many do at one time for a short period of time all did.
That precaution will have to suffice. Because most of those guys are not going to get vaccinated.
Kyrie Irving is walking away from 100 million. Washington State head football coach just walked away from maybe 50 million or more. People who are anti vaxxers aren't going to change their minds over money.
What they will do is opt out find other ways to earn a living and wait for the next administration to change the rules.

Most (not all) people who can drive a car probably can learn to drive a big truck.

It is difficult at first, but I learned how to drive a school bus with a trailer attached with a 25 foot white water raft on the back, or however long it was.

Wasnt as much fun as piloting the raft down the Snake River, but that job paid the big bucks and I had to wait to be promoted to it.

I am not at all denigrating the skill needed to drive one of those trucks, in fact SAFE drivers who care about safety is really the key. Dont have a clue what this has to do with stupid shit trump assholes who oppose masks and vax.
I sigh in your general direction.

If 100,000 truckers don't get vaccinated. I doubt many of them could afford to quit their job and find employment nearby. The could get a job with another trucking company but they'd be in the same predicament. All the while, younger people who are filling up truck driver schools will be graduating and beginning their careers as truckers. They'll be pushing the older, unemployed truckers who refused the vaccination out of the trucking business completely and with a limited skill set they'll have to settle for some lower paying job.

An example would be attempting to move to another country. Your chances of successful application are most likely greater if you have the skills in plumbing, electrical or specialized tool making, over driving a truck.

In the early 80s, I was stationed at George AFB, outside of Victorville, CA. We were shipping our filed hospital to Travis AFB for a week long demonstration as to it's capabilities to the hospital staff. I was in charge of arranging the transportation, which I did through out base transportation squadron who contracted it to a trucking company. I coordinated the date/time/location of where the company was to pick up the loads. We had five or six flatbed trucks arrive early in the morning ready for loading. I spoke with the owner of the company, who was one of the drivers, and he asked which aircraft pallets should be loaded and where. I had a list of all the pallets with dimensions and weights, and I told him which ones I'd load first. I loaded all the trucks using a 10K forklift and then I helped him tie all the loads down. He looked at the trucks and pallets and saw they were safely loaded and the trucks were balanced. As we were tying them down he asked me how many years I had in the AF and I told him. He asked if I was going to reenlist and I said Yes. He then offered me a job with his trucking company saying he was impressed by the way I loaded and secured everything. I told him thanks, but I'm happy where I was and that I didn't know how to drive these trucks. He said it wasn't difficult and I could learn very quickly.

Truck driving, like any other job, is an acquired skill that can be taught to just about anyone. Proof is the truck driving schools that teach people from across the socio-economic-educational spectrum to drive trucks. To be a good truck driver takes experience which is what those graduating from truck driving schools will soon be getting

Surrendering the economy to these extremists is exactly what you and JoeMemphis are advocating, though. It fits, since you guys are supremacists.

Lol f. them.

We don't need them, or these tacit sky-is-falling threats about the entire economy crashing if they're not coddled.
