Hunter Biden sues computer repair shop owner who worked on a laptop, accusing him of trying to invade his privacy

(CNN) — Hunter Biden is accusing the Delaware computer repair shop owner who worked on a laptop of trying to invade his privacy and wrongfully sharing his personal data for political purposes, according to new federal court filings.

Biden’s lawyers also say that John Paul Mac Isaac opposed the presidential candidacy of Hunter’s father, Joe Biden, and that he gave Hunter Biden’s data to “political enemies” to help then-President Donald Trump in 2020.

Things are rapidly changing in NY even the old school slogan.

A Campaign to Remind Us That We Love New York (City)

I ♥ NY caught on as an icon and a catchphrase in the late 1970s, when New York seemed to be descending to new depths. The city had scraped through a fiscal crisis — barely. The “Son of Sam” killer had terrified New Yorkers. The sentence “Ladies and gentlemen, the Bronx is burning” had disturbed them.

This morning, a coalition of elected officials and “community partners” will introduce a new campaign with the mark (as such things are called in advertising and marketing) We ♥ NYC.

Saudi Arabia frees American imprisoned over critical tweets

WASHINGTON (AP) — A 72-year-old American imprisoned more than a year in Saudi Arabia over tweets critical of the Saudi crown prince was back with family members in Riyadh on Tuesday, but it remained unclear whether the kingdom would drop a travel ban to allow him to return home to Florida.

Saudi Arabia on Monday freed Saad Almadi, a dual U.S.-Saudi citizen who had been a retiree living in Florida until Saudis detained him when he arrived for a 2021 family visit to the kingdom. Saudi courts subsequently sentenced Almadi to 19 years in prison over his years of past posts on social media.

We punish Saudi Arabia by having a Grand Prix there, at a beach resort for the transnational oligarchy of course.

At least this year, the terrorists didn't attack right down the road while it was going on. The Saudi government made a deal with them so they wouldn't.

Illinois House passes bill prohibiting libraries from banning books due to partisan pressure

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The Illinois House passed a bill Wednesday that would prohibit libraries from banning books or other material because of partisan or doctrinal pressure, prompting strong opposition from Republicans who called it an assault on local control.

House Bill 2789 is an initiative of Democratic Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, whose office oversees the Illinois State Library and administers several grant programs for public and school libraries as well as adult literacy programs throughout the state.

Texas county's book ban overruled, titles coming back to libraries

Books banned by leaders in one Texas county were ordered to be put back on the shelf after a judge ruled in favor of residents suing the county.

Seven patrons of the Llano County Library System sued the county judge and county commissioners for taking books off the shelves that the county ruled were inappropriate due to their “messages and content," according to the lawsuit.

San Diego Padres make baseball history with the first ever back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4.
Pinch-hitter David Dahl and Kim Ha-seong hit consecutive home runs opening the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Padres over Arizona 5-4 on Monday night for their third straight victory.

“David Dahl hit the tying home run and I was just wanting to keep that momentum going and then I had a great pitch to hit and I was able to walk it off,” Kim said through an interpreter. “I’m kind of sorry for David that I took all the spotlight, but he hit a great tying home run that was able to set me up for a great moment. Giving the team the win was the most important thing.”

The Diamondbacks took a 4-3 lead on Evan Longoria’s homer in the top of the ninth, two innings after rookie Corbin Carroll tied the game with a leadoff shot to right field.

But the Padres came right back with Dahl’s leadoff drive to left-center and, with the crowd chanting his name, Kim’s long ball to left off Scott McGough (0-1), his first walk-off hit in the majors.

I watched the last two innings of the game after the San Diego State Aztecs lost to Connecticut in NCAA final game. I love watching Ha-seong Kim play. Last year he took over as the starting short stop when Fernando Tatis was suspended for the season and Kim was great at that position. Whenever Kim comes to bat the crowd begin chanting his name, "Ha-seong Kim, Ha-seong Kim, Ha-seong Kim!" With stars like Soto, Tatis, Machado, and Cronenworth you'd expect the crowd to chant these names but it's Ha-seong Kim's name instead.

What is the "history" part of this? Is it who hit them? Back to back home runs in the bottom of the 9th would not be history making, I dont think.
I sigh in your general direction.

It was historic in that it was the first-time in their history they had back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. According to MLB, it's the first time the number 8th & 9th batters to do this.

Sorry, I should have been clearer on this.

i was watching my Giants yesterday and they also had a record but 7 home runs in one game didn't sound like a record to me, but it was for the BALLPARK they were at, White Sox.

NY Gov Kathy Hochul Remembers She's Democrat, Nominates Bad-Ass Liberals To Court Of Appeals

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul face-planted in silly last year when she nominated Judge Hector LaSalle to lead the state’s highest court, the Court of Appeals. Senate Democrats roundly rejected LaSalle — first in committee and then on the floor. She'd received fair warning that LaSalle's voting record, especially on abortion rights and unions, would make confirmation all but impossible, but she stuck to her guns, even not-so-subtly suggesting that Dr. Martin Luther King would've wanted Democrats to give LaSalle a break.

But that's all behind us now. Hochul announced a new nominee on Monday, one her party might actually like. She's going with Rowan D. Wilson, who already serves as an associate judge on the Court of Appeals. Slate's Mark Joseph Stern describes Wilson as a “Black progressive titan of the New York legal world," which isn't just a great line for a dating profile bio, it also leaves little doubt that the balance of the court will shift to a four-to-three liberal majority.

Supreme Court refuses to stop $6 billion student loan debt settlement

The Supreme Court will not stop a legal settlement which would cancel more than $6 billion in student loan debt from students who say they were misled by their schools, mostly for-profit institutions.

The settlement is the result of a class-action suit from nearly 200,000 borrowers against the Department of Education in 2019, which accused schools of boosting enrollment through misleading advertisements and exaggerating the quality of their education and future job prospects.

Rowan Wilson confirmed as first Black chief judge of the Court of Appeals

After months of uncertainty around who would lead the state's highest court, on Tuesday the state Senate voted 40-19 to confirm Rowan Wilson to lead the Court of Appeals. In a party-line vote, the chamber made history by electing Wilson as the first Black chief judge in New York history. The full Senate vote came one day after the state Senate Judiciary Committee held a three-hour hearing on Wilson and then voted 14-4 to advance his nomination to the full Senate.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced her nomination of Wilson to helm the state’s highest court several weeks after the failed nomination of her first chief judge pick, Hector LaSalle – whom the Senate voted to reject earlier this year. Unlike LaSalle, Wilson had the support of most Senate Democrats and his confirmation went fairly smoothly. State Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal, chair of the Judiciary Committee, underscored his confidence in Wilson leading the court in an address on the Senate floor. “New Yorkers can be assured that with Judge Wilson at the helm, our judiciary will have their best interests at heart … that he will act with integrity and lead the nation and thoughtful and intelligent development of the law,” he said.

U.S. Supreme Court preserves broad access to abortion pill

April 21 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday blocked new restrictions set by lower courts on a widely used abortion pill, delivering a victory to President Joe Biden's administration as it defends broad access to the drug in the latest fierce legal battle over reproductive rights in the United States.

The justices, in a brief order, granted emergency requests by the Justice Department and the pill's manufacturer Danco Laboratories to put on hold an April 7 preliminary injunction issued by U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk in Texas. The judge's order would greatly limit the availability of mifepristone while litigation proceeds in a challenge by anti-abortion groups to its federal regulatory approval.

Well now.

Republicans help seven Biden judicial nominees advance despite Dianne Feinstein’s absence

(CNN) — The logjam stalling the Senate confirmation of President Joe Biden’s judicial appointees loosened somewhat Thursday when the Judiciary Committee approved seven nominees on a bipartisan basis, though Republicans still maintain the ability to block nominees they don’t support.

The advancement of the nominees comes amid the ongoing absence of California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein, whose vote Democrats need when Judiciary Committee Republicans are united against a nominee. Democrats have tried unsuccessfully to temporarily replace Feinstein on the committee to keep their partisan advantage.

I have no doubt she represented the U.S. admirably. Why didn't Biden attend the coronation? The reason is no U.S. has ever attended a British monarch's coronation and he's keeping the tradition. Eisenhower was invited and declined an invitation to Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953.

Minnesota Democrats just keep winning

Here’s what can be done when Democrats are elected to run everything: all the good stuff—abortion rights, voting rights, gun safety, environmental protection, education funding and more. That’s what happened in the just-concluded legislative session in Minnesota, where the governor is a Democrat and the state House and Senate are controlled by Democrats, as well. The session has been celebrated by those Democrats as “transformational,” “historic,” and “game-changing”—and that’s putting it modestly.

State House Majority Leader Jamie Long of Minneapolis explained how House and Senate leaders set out their top 30 goals at the beginning of the session. “And as of the end of the day,” she said, “we are going to pass the entirety of our top priorities with the House and Senate.”
