Actually prior to WWII he was definitely on the ascent as an actor. After the war is when he became cemeted as a B actor.

If not for WWII he probably would have been on par with people like Glen Ford. Sort of on the fringe of A status.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that Ronzo actually joined the reserves sometime before the war came, and he was then activated. I could be confused, not having looked it up in a long time, but I think he was in some kind of clerical job before he was assigned to the Culver City Commandos to rally the home front. His credit in all those rah-rah War Information Board movies was "Lt. Ronald Reagan," and I believe he had in fact attained that rank.
