But you sure give a shit if anyone in Florida wears a dress. DeSantis is your hero.

You guys are anti-gay and anti-trans. So much for freedom.

And we can see that you hold "wearing a dress" in contempt.

No, Joe, you don't. You go to people's same-sex wedding, then you vote to void their marriage. You obviously didn't care about them.

You vote to ensure that their marriage can't be spoken of in a public school, that it must stay hidden.

You vote against the rights of trans people to even exist, to have medical treatment approved by the American Medical Association. I guess you don't have any money invested in those procedures, like you did in COVID vaccines, because then you'd be in favor.

I’m in favor of parents having a voice in how their kids are raised regardless of where the child goes to school. We can solve the problem easily by implementing school choice. Then individual parents and student can make educational decisions. The fact that you are less concerned with academics and more concerned with cultural indoctrination says all we need to know. The decision about what is important culturally to a minor child is not your responsibility or the governments responsibility but the parents responsibility. That’s what I support without apology.

School choice? You mean like opting in or out, like I kept suggesting?

“cultural indoctrination “ is a straight up Fox News talking point. Children are not forgoing academic learning being taught to be decent people, learning about gender identity, gay and civil rights, etc. No one is being culturally indoctrinated. I’m sure white parents in the 50s and 60s said the same thing about having blacks attend white schools.

We have school choice now. You can take your kids out of the public schools and put them in all kinds of private schools. You also have a range of possibilities in most larger school systems.

Or do you want a vast menu of what you do and don't want your child to be taught? What, 5,000 things? What can be mentioned in their presence?

I know you guys hate gays and trans people, but look, gay marriage is the law of the land, but you want it to be a secret that kids can't be told?

I mean, if you want total control, you can home school. You can make those children just as stupid and ignorant as you want to.

I wouldn't be surprised if you guys in Florida decided no child under 18 can go to a gay wedding.

Or we could make education the priority instead of maintaining the public bureaucracy and let the money follow the student. Parents can decide which option yields the best result.

Poor kids in the public system have no choice. They are stuck.

They still get an education superior to most religious schools.

It's stupid for parents to want the state to help them censor what their children see. Sorry, but you and Glenn may think that children are sexless until their 18th birthday, but they aren't. They get for more information about sex from the culture and the internet than they ever will at school. School is the best place for them to learn actual facts. You can't keep your children from everything.

If you want to keep your child in a cocoon, cut off from the world, then you have to home school and never let them have friends, don't let them see TV or have a computer. But then, are they ready to handle the world?

School is where you learn about the whole world, no matter how much your parents want to keep you from knowing. Bottling them up does them no service.

You are welcome to your set of values. Pass them on to YOUR children. You have no right to force them on other peoples children.

It’s that simple GoU. Parents want their kids to learn about the real world. They just don’t want them learning about it from an ideologue like you who isn’t interested in teaching them how to think for themselves. You are more interested in telling them what to think and less how to think. That isn’t the job of the school teacher.

But we all have a vote. I’m betting most parents are more worried about math, science, history, the languages and less about whether little Johnny or little Susie gets to go to an adult drag show or strip show. Just a guess.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong. Most kids who go to religious schools go on to college.
Fir example the high-school Lebron went to something like 90pct gp on to college. Graduate from that high school is about the equivalent of two years of college.

More advice on child rearing from a man who has no children and for the most part hasn't been around children since he was a child
I know how you love to shut people up, because you can't debate.

But I was with a girlfriend for five years with a son, and was a step-dad to him back in the nineties. So, no, you're wrong again.

You're the one that thinks kids are asexual until the magic 18th birthday, and should be 100% sheltered from any sexual thoughts at all.

Well, fuck off.

You really don't know about my life. I don't go into YOUR personal life, but you sure like to bring MINE up all the time, don't you?

Why don't you just talk about the issues, Glenn. Just because we conversed on the phone gives you NO RIGHT AT ALL to divulge anything we spoke about in my personal life. Stick to the issues.

He's never said on the board, and it's not our business.

It's Glenn that wants to talk about everyone else's business on the board, bringing up personal things he shouldn't. But he has no principles at all.

I’m pretty sure he said he didn’t before. I could be mistaken, but that’s what I recall

You don’t need to have kids to understand children or this situation. That’s just weak sauce by Glennfs who can’t handle your opinion. There are lots of really bad parents out here and there are lots of childless people who understand children. You don’t need to be a parent to qualify on this topic.

I'm a parent and I must say, I wouldn't appreciate other parents deciding whether or not my child had access to poems.

Parents should have input into what their child is learning, no doubt, but they should not have the authority to dictate what books my child would have access to. If you want parental choice, shouldn't all parents be allowed to choose? Why should someone else not wanting their child to read Book X impact whether my child can read it? That's not parental choice, don't pretend it is.

What's happening in Florida is that one parent can have books removed from schools for all children. They are removing all books relating to black history, including slavery and the civil rights era. They say it's because it makes white children feel bad.

And they will learn many things that you'll never know about, long before they turn 18. Things you have no control over.

Parents that demand 100% total control over their children until and even after they turn 18 are doing them no favors.
