Shannon, whose real name was Don Bombard, hosted afternoons on “CBS-FM” from the mid-1980s until 2012, except for a two-year period from 2005-2007 during the station’s ill-fated “Jack FM” era.
According to Wikipedia, Shannon was introduced to the radio business by sportscaster Marv Albert at WOLF (1490) in his native Syracuse, NY after Shannon won a guest DJ contest while still a high school student. He worked at Syracuse University’s WAER, before going on to gigs at WNDR and eventually WOLF, where he served as MD and night host. He then returned to WNDR where he rose to APD and afternoon host.

Per WGN, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Duane Tabinski. A NASCAR spokesperson confirmed to the station that a contractor suffered a “fatal medical emergency” while working.
