Texas police on Monday continued investigating a shooting at Joel Osteen's megachurch in which off-duty officers killed the assailant while gunfire left a 5-year-old in critical condition and another person injured.
At approximately 1:53 p.m. local time, the unidentified woman, wearing a trench coat and a backpack, walked into Lakewood Church and opened fire, said Houston Police Chief Troy Finner at a news conference. She was accompanied by a young child.
A pair of off-duty officers at the church fatally shot the woman, whose age was estimated between 30 to 35 years of age, Finner said. She was confirmed dead at the scene.
During the incident, the 5-year-old boy was shot and later rushed to Texas Children's Hospital by Houston Fire Department personnel. It's unclear who shot the child.
A 57-year-old man was also struck by gunfire and later reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting or the names of the assailant and the injured victims....

The victory parade ended outside Union Station in downtown Kansas City, and local reports said the players were still on a stage that when shots rang out.
Missouri Governor Mike Parson has been safely evacuated after being present when shots were fired at Union Station, his office has said on X, formerly known as Twitter. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says she has also been "evacuated and out of harm's way" after shots rang out at the Super Bowl victory parade in Kansas City.
Shifting briefly away from the news conference in Kansas City, a local law enforcement source has told the BBC's US partner, CBS News, that the shooting does not appear to be terror related.
The official said the shooting may have been the result of an argument or dispute between individuals that turned violent.

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
Cool story.
Support or respect? You don't respect it. It's not being used as intended, not by any stretch.
Refusing to address the issues is accepting the issues. It's an acceptance of the murder of children. It's just that simple. Make excuses, whichever excuses you see fit, but the status quo is killing children. Enforce the laws already on the books? Fine. Which ones are not being enforced? Links from reputable sources. Why aren't they being enforced? Justify the murder of children at the behest of the Second Amendment. I want to know why this cannot be fixed, so there is no point in trying.
We, outside the US, don't understand what the issue is, don't understand why you cannot control this problem, and, most importantly, why there is no will to change it. Explain why children need to be fear being shot wherever they go, including to bed. "Because the second amendment" is a bullshit reason. There is *NO* reason that it needs to continue. NONE. ZERO.
Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
Yes, you support the Second Amendment giving crooks, terrorists, the mentally unstable, teens, etc. weapons that allow for mass shooting of children and innocent people.
I guess the shooting in KC means you're giving "thoughts and prayers" to the victims while supporting the shooter(s). In you're view, it's "too early" to discuss assault weapons and gun legislation.
When you vote left, you vote right.

Personally I do not own a weapon. I did when I owned a store in a bad neighborhood.
However while it is my choice not to own a weapon being pro choice I do not want to impose my personal beliefs on others

Gun shops that sell the most guns used in crime revealed in new list
The federal government has stepped up its scrutiny of gun stores that sell guns used in crimes, with the number of stores singled out more than doubling in the past four years.
Which gun stores sell the most crime guns has been kept secret for more than two decades, since 2003 under the George W. Bush administration. But a Freedom of Information Act request from USA TODAY unearthed a glimpse of them and showed that the vast majority of guns used in crimes are sold by a small fraction of America’s gun shops.

The Nooz was vague, since officials weren't talking about details, but they said something about 2-3 shooters. Something vague about juveniles. This kind of thing in LA usually means a gang bang.
Along with the dead DJ, who was something of a local celebrity, there were 20 injured. This country has sunk to a pretty low point if you can't even have a football parade without a mass shooting.

No, you support a reading from the SCOTUS that is directly in opposition to the wording of the amendment itself.
Unrestrained gun ownership is not permitted by the words of the second amendment. The first amendment rights have limits. The second amendment is not sacrosanct such that no limitations are permitted.
Background checks do not prevent someone from owning a gun. Limiting magazine size does not prevent someone from owning a gun.requiring training in the use of weaponry does not prevent someone from owning a gun. Age restrictions are common sense.
Studying gun deaths does not prevent someone from owning a gun.
Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
The Second Amendment talks about a well-ordered militia. We have a well-ordered militia. It's called the National Guard.
There is no inherent right to show up at a football parade armed to the teeth, and start blasting away for whatever lame juvenile reason. There is no inherent right for non-military personnel to pass marching orders and ordnance requirements over the Internet, and show up at the nation's Capitol in full body armor and armed with various deadly weapons, not to mention zip ties for taking prisoners, because their Dear Leader had told them that a certified election was rigged.

Kansas City Chiefs parade shooting stemmed from personal dispute...Filter and his family were leaving the parade for their home in Wichita when shots first broke out, scattering the crowd. When he heard a woman shout that someone had a gun, he “just went for it."
As another man tried to restrain the suspected shooter’s hands, Filter reached underneath the man but couldn’t find any gun.
“I started hitting him in the ribs,” Filter said.
He didn’t let up until police pulled him off by his feet. Meanwhile, Filter’s wife picked up a “huge assault rifle” nearby....

How about having to register everytime you buy a bullet.
The liberal wing of the democratic party wants to ban gun ownership. But, they aren't stupid and know voters would turn on them. So they are attempting to do it through regulation.
There is a reason there is not even one gun store on or around San Francisco it because they are banned.
Now some here will put on their best Eddie Haskell face and say they aren't banned it is just a coincidence that there aren't any.

No, you don’t get to say what you say without stating it is your opinion.
Now, I, myself, would ban all guns. They serve no purpose but to kill. No, the purpose is not to protect against a tyrannical government because the founders did not think they were creating a tyrannical government. ALL rights enumerated in the bill of relights can be and are subject to limitation, modification and/or elimination. If people want to own guns, they are permitted with appropriate regulation. It would just be in my world where they would be banned.
And, of course, I didn’t expect you to actually respond to what I posted because you basically never do.
Banning gun stores does not mean that people cannot own guns so you fail again. I would bet that guns can be purchased elsewhere and owned in San Francisco.
So, go back to my previous post and respond to what I said.

Over regulations is the same as banning because the result will be the same.
To say or believe that in a city as large as San Francisco and it's surrounding area hasn't effectively banned gun stores is simply ignoring the fact.
Background checks are needed but the problem is like in California those opposed to the 2nd amendment use it to ban guns. As evidenced by the recently shot down bullet regulations. ( get it shot down)
Banning magazine sizes as well as so called assault weapons while on paper make sense.
In reality it will just be used as another tool to do away with the 2nd amendment. As the definition of what an assault weapon is will change until all you can own is a single shot. 22.
Same with magazines.
Because we all know as soon as any so called reasonable regulations are passed. The anti gun lobby will simply go back to work the next day and work for stricter regulations.
Lastly as I got to run for a minute whatbthev2nd amendment means has been defined BY SCOTUS many times and legally according to the courts it means we as individual citizens have the right to keep and bear arms.
As for me I currently do not own any guns but am pro choice on the subject.
