Gunman in FBI attack was Navy veteran who once handled classified info - WP
The Navy veteran who tried to breach the FBI’s Cincinnati field office Thursday once handled highly classified material years ago while posted on an attack submarine, but had been on the bureau’s radar for months for possible extremist behavior, authorities said Friday.

Ricky Shiffer, 42, was fatally shot by police Thursday after leading officers on a chase that led to a six-hour standoff on a rural road, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said — an incident that rang alarm bells as threats of violence against the FBI from far-right factions have increased in recent days online.

Federal authorities said they had been trying to determine whether he had participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol after he posted on Twitter that “I was there” in reply to a photograph showing rioters scaling the building’s walls, a law enforcement official said.

The FBI also was looking into whether Shiffer appeared in a Facebook video of a pro-Trump rally on the evening of Jan. 5, 2021, on Black Lives Matter Plaza near the White House, the official said.

In a written statement, the FBI said it previously received information about Shiffer but that it “did not contain a specific and credible threat.” The agency added that multiple field offices had tried to locate and interview Shiffer but were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, authorities are continuing to investigate a potential motive for the shooting in addition to Shiffer’s possible ties to extremist groups, a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation said. Shiffer’s name is used on several social media platforms by an individual who spoke about being at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and urging a “call to arms” after the FBI executed a search warrant at former president Donald Trump’s Florida estate on Monday.
"Possible ties"... this guy is another anti US government confederate. :problem:

The Nooz has reproduced many of the social media calls for violence against the judge, his family, and especially his children.

They claim it's to show how bad the problem is. All it shows me is how much the Nooz loves to put out fires with gasoline, then go tsk tsk while devoting hours to the resulting conflagrations.

The social media enablers for the goon squads and paramilitary loony tunes, of course, are silent on the whole thing.

You edited your post just in time, as I was about to click the magic button and post my response, which followed my viewing of the tweets in question. The basic content was, WHAT THE FRACK ARE YOU PEOPLE BLOVIATING ABOUT NOW, since all I found there was the usual Internet fog of war.

Thanks for updating the situation just in time. Now I get it that what you saw and what I saw were before and after the unsuccessful efforts by all concerned to restore some semblance of civil discourse to what turned out to be another Internet con job.

We have here, of course, a perfect study in how misuse of the Internet has created a post-truth society which is descending into fragmentation, violence, mob rule, and bad behavior everywhere one looks.

I just looked at Daily Kos, which I used to read every day back when it was a tiny voice of sanity crying out in the darkness.

It wasn't very illuminating. It seems that Kos is too close to the fight to comment objectively on it. My basic reaction to all of this remains, WTF?

The only interesting part was the idea that drumpf stole all the compartmented top secret information for potential kompromat, along with the obvious value of sale of military secrets to foreign governments. That's a very interesting take on it, and one worth pursuing.

We're 180 degrees out of phase here. Olbermann's tweet is interesting, but information keeps coming in as I comment on what was operative 15 minutes ago.

Maybe we should conclude that drumpf got caught playing his obstruction/intimidation game again.

Exclusive: Trump Raid Documents Could Reveal Informants on U.S. Payroll - Newsweek
n pursuing the unprecedented search of Donald Trump's residence on Monday, the FBI was seeking to retrieve Top Secret and "compartmented" documents dealing with intelligence "sources and methods," two federal government sources tell Newsweek—documents with the potential to reveal U.S. intelligence sources, including human sources on the American government payroll.

This greatly complicates any public discussion of the documents or any substantiation of Trump's potential violation of U.S. law. The sources, who were briefed on the investigation, requested anonymity in order to discuss sensitive information.
Today in Don't Mess With The Librarians OR The Archivists...
The road to the search at Mar-a-Lago began 18 months ago in the transition from the Trump to the Biden administration. In inventorying presidential records, the National Archives and Records Administration concluded that there were additional documents that were in Donald Trump's possession that were "presidential records" and not personal papers and thus needed to be returned to the Archives.

Months of negotiations followed, and in January 2022, 15 boxes of such boxes were turned over to the Archives. That collection led to further suspicions that the Trump camp still possessed more. Federal investigators began interviewing Trump White House and Mar-a-Lago staffers to determine what was moved. Those interviews, and a broader investigation overseen by a U.S. Attorney resulted in a grand jury subpoena served on Trump in late May to produce specific documents.

According to John Soloman, a journalist with Just the News who has also served as one of Donald Trump's liaisons to the National Archives, the subpoena requested any remaining documents Trump possessed with any classification markings, even if they involved photos of foreign leaders, correspondence or mementos from his presidency.

On June 3, three FBI special agents and a senior Justice Department official visited Mar-a-Lago to discuss any additional documents in response to the subpoena. The visiting officials were shown the basement storage room where White House records were stored, and in fulfillment of the subpoena, left with "a small number of documents," according to Soloman. The documents were classified as Top Secret and were compartmented, according to people familiar with the investigation. Trump and his spokespeople say the visit was cordial and that the Trump camp fully cooperated.

After the June visit, according to the Trump camp, communications with the investigators ceased until agents showed up on Monday to execute the search warrant. According to people familiar with the search, the decision to escalate the matter to a surprise search came because investigators concluded that additional documents were at Mar-a-Lago—documents so sensitive, they had to be retrieved in order to protect national security

In the aftermath of the search, the Trump camp insists that President Trump had the right to declassify information, and thus none of the records were classified. Kash Patel, a Trump loyalist who served in intelligence and defense positions in the administration (and who also identifies himself as one of Donald Trump's representatives to the National Archives), told the Just The News podcast that Trump was the "ultimate arbiter" of the classification of a document and thus there could be no wrongdoing.

That characterization is incorrect, experts say, because documents that are covered by statute, and not classified under presidential executive order, cannot be classified or declassified by the president. That includes nuclear secrets (under the Atomic Energy Act) and documents that might identify CIA case officers or agents (under the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982). The Washington Post has reported that the documents sought at Mar-a-Lago related to nuclear weapons.

That law labels as a CIA sources "an individual, other than a United States citizen, whose past or present intelligence relationship to the United States is classified information and who is a present or former agent of, or a present or former informant or source of operational assistance to, an intelligence agency."
Ridiculous Kash Patel has been very visible lately, running his mouth last week at CPAC viewtopic.php?p=33584, and last night on _ucker Carlson hosted by Tulsi Gabbard viewtopic.php?p=34406#p34406. He recently got his propagandist ass restricted from Twitter, though he's on other places on Twitter.

Personally I've been working. But, unlike you political fanboys who are celebrating I take this very seriously and believe it is the most significant event in our country since the Cuban missile crisis.
As for the espionage part. I would believe that investigation of that would be standard sop for any person illegally possessing top secret government documents.
I don't believe anything will become of that part of the investigation unless trump actually gave or sold to a foreign power.

At worse he will probably get what Sandy Burger got when he stole documents for the Clintons.
At best he could get a deal where if he agrees not to run for office in 2022 no charges will be filed.
Personally I believe that our federal agencies know what a disaster it would be for our country and the world if trump were to become president again. Therefore their objective is not to destroy trump just make sure he never takes office again.

Oh? Then was Sandy Burger EVER charged or investigated for espionage? The answer, of course, is NO.

So you are already convinced that Trump isn't guilty of espionage, right? I thought you would support and back anything that AG Garland would do. But here it sounds like you don't believe him.

As usual, the events of what happened are not being described correctly.

I do agree he removed unauthorized material from the National Archives, and that was a (potentially) criminal offense. He also lied about doing so. That stuff should indeed be taken seriously.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_Berger

On July 19, 2004, it was revealed that the United States Department of Justice was investigating Berger for unauthorized removal of classified documents in October 2003 from a National Archives reading room prior to testifying before the 9/11 Commission. The documents were five classified copies of a single report commissioned from Richard Clarke covering internal assessments of the Clinton Administration's handling of the unsuccessful 2000 millennium attack plots. An associate of Berger said Berger took one copy in September 2003 and four copies in October 2003, allegedly by stuffing the documents into his socks and pants.[20][21] Berger subsequently lied to investigators when questioned about the removal of the documents.[22]

In April 2005, Berger pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material from the National Archives in Washington, D.C.[23]

Berger was fined $50,000,[24] sentenced to serve two years of probation and 100 hours of community service, and stripped of his security clearance for three years.[22][25] The Justice Department initially said Berger only stole copies of classified documents and not originals,[26] but the House Government Reform Committee later revealed that an unsupervised Berger had been given access to classified files of original, uncopied, uninventoried documents on terrorism. During the House Government Reform Committee hearings, Nancy Kegan Smith — who was the director of the presidential documents staff at the National Archives and Records Administration — acknowledged that she had granted Berger access to original materials in her office.[27]

[snip][end]

Bottom line: no, you may not even remove copies of documents from the National Archives. Yes, what he did was illegal. So was lying about it. No, he was not stealing the documents for Clinton, who had already been out of office 3 years. He says he was doing it for his own research. That's fine, but trust me, I know, many libraries have rules about that; you can make notes for yourself about said documents, but no you can't even make copies of them to be removed. In this case, because classified stuff was in there.

I've taken stuff from the Library of Congress. Once again, the photocopy machines there have stern warnings (basically "DON'T"), and a lot of things there must be read onsite. They do not let you leave with it. Your own notes are fine. And much of that isn't even classified.

Did he get the appropriate sentence? Well, he did lose his security clearance, and later his law license, both of which may have been appropriate.

It did not have anything to do with espionage. Also, there would have been no reason to take a report written by Clarke for the Clintons, who would have already known everything that was in it.

And when one of them does respond, oh my God I give up.

:? :o

First he laughed at me for suggesting trump would have his political opponents killed, then we found out he not only would trump do that he wanted PENCE killed. Our VP, he wanted him killed, Pelosi too of course.

Then while our secrets likely have been sold to our enemies by trump, board con dismisses THAT PART of the story as a nothing burger.

When I said I GIVE UP I guess I meant that I have sort of held out that maybe one day one of them will reverse course, a con I mean, and do the right thing, but no...not even when trump takes top secret docs OBVIOUSLY TO SELL...

Typical day here, a con does something HORRIBLE (daily this happens, not always trump but one of them) and board con finds a completely uncomparable MINOR in comparison that a dem did (they can rarely even find one) and then DISMISS the HORRIBLE thing the con did. Our country WILL NOT SURVIVE if they keep that up.

Now that some of the dust has settled......

https://www.yahoo.com/news/intelligence ... 04898.html
Intelligence officials withheld sensitive information from Trump while he was in office because they feared the 'damage' he could do if he knew: report
He, for example, had been briefed in August 2019 of an explosion at an Iranian space facility, and he wanted to post a satellite image shown to him on his personal Twitter account. Aides pushed back against the move, arguing it might give insight into US surveillance capabilities. But he posted it to his account anyway.

"We had a photo and I released it, which I have the absolute right to do," Trump said at the time.

Former CIA clandestine-services officer John Sipher told Insider that the release of the image was "consistent with his disdain for foreign policy and intelligence expertise."

"If he sees an immediate personal or political benefit, he does not feel any need to follow rules, regulations, protocol, or even laws," Sipher said.

Trump's rocky relationship with his own intelligence officials has been widely documented.
Now the dust storm. What was taken back. i'd be willing to bet it has to do with the {bold} part.
]"If he sees an immediate personal or political benefit, he does not feel any need to follow rules, regulations, protocol, or even laws," Sipher said.
