I’m a conservative that leans pretty heavily to the libertarian side of things.
Libertarian Conservatives are just cowards who can’t admit they’re republicans. It’s the game you’ve always played the entire time you’ve been on these boards. Pretending to be some sort of neutral fence sitter while refusing to comment about who you vote for and telling people to mind their own business on a political message board while you only vote for Republicans. Or fabricating both sidisms so you make yourself feel better about voting for vile people. Or engaging in plausible deniability for the same reason. Only, the mask is now totally gone and you never fooled anyone.

Nice try. Nah dude, Go cry in a pillow clutching your victim card. People like you means me and others have said so. I never said such a thing, I’m my own person.
In fact, when referring to J6, I’ve stated many times that it’s a huge investigation that will take a long time. Watergate took years to prosecute and this is way, way bigger.
You, on the other hand. YOU’RE THE ONE who denies J6 was an insurrection, even after all the piles of evidence, your own eyes, even after all the arrests and charges for sedition. Even after Garland’s official statements.
And you still support and vote for pro Trump insurrectionists.
You’re a liar.

You want to make this all about some kinda ideological war between good and evil. That’s all a bunch of horseshit. The President tried to sell that crap a few nights ago and has been walking it back ever since. Despite what you believe most conservatives and republicans love their country every bit as much as you. So if you want to talk policy, I’m game. If you are trying to convince me that most Conservatives and/or Republicans are trying to overthrow the US Government and establish some kind of totalitarian government, then you are delusional and wasting bandwidth. You and Lib can both go get some much needed therapy.
You aren’t fooling anyone either.
Re: Way to go Joe
No one is delusional, but you. Trump tried to overthrow the government. And is still trying. He’s the leader of the GOP. That is a fact. You’re the crazy one in these parts.JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 1:36 pm I never said I was neutral. I never said I was a fence sitter. I just said I don’t associate myself with either party. You should direct your ire to those people who support Trump. I never voted for the man. Or you could direct your frustrations to people who are members of the GOP. Blaming me and other independents for Trump is just wasting time. Republicans try to blame me for Biden. That’s also a waste of time.
Re: Way to go Joe
Keep calling yourself an independent. That’s right on cue to my point above. You deny J6 and vote for republicans, who fully support Donald Trump. And comparing Biden to Trump is a ridiculous false equivalence, again in line with my point above about your fabricated both sidisms, keep flailing.JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Thu Sep 15, 2022 1:46 pm You should direct your ire to those people who support Trump. Re: Way to go Joe
Same thing here. The restaurants became deserted well before the actual restrictions started, and the way they do their business changed indefinitely after restrictions ended. I can verify this through personal experience. So can anyone else who isn't in solitary confinement.ProfX wrote: ↑Wed Sep 14, 2022 11:33 am capacity. I really don't care whether I'm believed or not, but I definitely noticed a lot of empty stores, malls, and places, long BEFORE the lockdowns were ordered, BECAUSE, well, FEAR. We can debate if it was rational: it was real. The downturn in business began before the lockdowns started. Also: I talked to many business owners, and business (consumer traffic) often did NOT rebound immediately after lockdowns were lifted, for many of the same reasons.
It's really irrelevant whether it was fear or a rational response to a known hazard. I would imagine it was both. The result was the same, and nearly everyone understood the situation. Most of the ones who didn't were from the same political group that can't handle anything the government tells them to do.
Back in the real world, a lot of rational people were afraid to go out, and three years later the ones who understand the situation still tend to want more spacing or to eat outside if weather permits. Some of the changes seem to be in place for the foreseeable future.
Only a few places went out of business. I had read that Manhattan had lost 1/4 of its small businesses forever, but when I was there for the better part of a month, the real number was well below that. I'd say maybe closer to one in 30. The rest adapted. In the case of restaurants, in LA and NY they have been allowed to create dining areas in former sidewalks or parking spaces. Most of them have contracted with home delivery services and offer online ordering. Some of the really fancy places in LA have areas where you can drive up and pick up the food. In New York you see a lot of sheds built in the street with tables isolated from each other. Humans are adaptable.
There's no excuse for blaming inflation and job loss caused by covid on liberal business restrictions. That's a cop-out for ideologues who want to explain everything with some overblown political analysis that excludes verifiable facts.

Re: Way to go Joe
I think there was a lot of fear in the beginning because the virus was just basically a general unknown. It was novel. I wouldn't call all of that irrational. Compounding it for many people was a national leadership that seemed to be engaging in abject denial. It was gonna magically vanish with the spring rain. Denying reality is not a good public reassurance strategy.
To be clear, rational caution is and was warranted for just about everybody. I know we have a crew here who only seems to care about the death rate for people over 50, as if that means everybody under 50 should have been seeking to get infected or partied like they just don't care. Prior to public vax availability, this decision was dumb or everybody. Just read an article about how there are folks still suffering with the so-called "Long COVID" symptoms, some even after 2 years. Well, they're not dead so.... (IIRC, there WERE idiots arguing for that "herd immunity strategy" as I recall.) I've gone through all the reasons why rational caution was warranted for everybody, including children. Been there, done that.

I vote for those who support conservative fiscal policies. If you have candidates who are fiscal conservatives and who aren’t going to vote in lockstep with Schumer, Pelosi and Biden, I am happy to consider them. I would consider a Manchin or Sinema.

Tell me, do you call ending Social Security and Medicare fiscal conservatism?
Re: Way to go Joe
I don’t see much support for either idea. We are quickly approaching a time when we are going to have to address funding for both of those entitlement programs.
