Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer confirms identity of new Black Panther
https://www.techradar.com/news/black-pa ... ck-panther

They wouldn't recast Chadwick Boseman, too soon. So it opens with T'Challa's funeral. (We don't know cause of death.) Queen Mum Ramonda is back on the throne.

... There IS a new Black Panther, but who is it? (Or is there more than one?) It looks feminine, and the money is on his sister Shuri, who also became the Panther in the comics. (Doesn't mean she will assume the throne.) Of course, this could be a classic Marvel misdirect, and as always, the theories are out there. Nakia? Okoye? Or maybe it's still a man. Killmonger secretly alive? M'Baku? T'Challa's secret son? (Would be way too young!) Everett Ross?

Some cameos revealed, notably Riri Williams as Ironheart. Hints all over the place that Doctor Doom is the hidden villain in the Vibranium Wars, nothing confirmed, of course. And then there's Namor the Sub-Mariner. He is a mutant, those teeny wings on his Winged Serpent feet let him fly (though it looks more like wind stepping), he can control water Avatar style, but no he's not an Atlantean. He's the Aztec ruler of undersea kingdom Talocan and maybe due to rights issues for now MCU has no "Atlantis," at least not per se. And he's not the villain; maybe more of an antihero (like Black Adam). Pissed that T'Challa letting the secrets of Vibranium out of the bag has also jeopardized his kingdom.

We can obviously expect a tribute to Chadwick Boseman and it's clear there is some kind of wake for T'Challa at the beginning, we don't know how he passed, that too till be revealed I suppose, obviously we hope it was at the hands of bad guys as he also took them down, he has to go out with a bang. Unfortunately, T'Challa's decision to "build bridges not walls" has sent Vibranium seekers to pillage both Talocan and Wakanda, and this gets Namor so mad he floods part of Wakanda and starts a civil war.

I think Disney-Marvel could have another blockbuster on their hands ...

Man what a sci-fi /fantasy weekend that was.

Picard Season 3 trailer dropped ... they've reunited the entire TNG cast now, sans Wesley Crusher (probably a good thing). :D

Rings of Power gives the "Side Eye" ... but was it Sauron's?

Early reviews from critics are in. Don't worry about spoilers, they're embargo'd, anyway.

(of course, not that it stops anonymous leaks to social media, even if movie reviewers don't dare post under their own name)

The First Reactions to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Are In
Critics are calling Ryan Coogler's sequel an emotional journey—and a fitting tribute to Chadwick Boseman.

So spoiler free reviews: it's the tribute Chadwick Boseman deserved.

My speculation: Shuri is the new Black Panther. Whether she keeps the mantle ... we'll find out.

Namor, Ironheart confirmed. They're in the trailers. Also the usual suspects: Okoye, M'Baku, Nakia.

They are claiming there is no post credits scene; that said, doesn't mean Dr. Doom doesn't do a quick cameo somewhere in the film proper.

Saw it today.

Spoiler-free assessment: it is the proper tribute to Chadwick Boseman, and a darn good film, to boot.

**super massive uber spoiler warning**

They have made Namor into a kind of Aztec/Mayan warrior king. Like the rest of the folk of Talokan, he can breathe underwater and has massive strength. But unlike the rest, his little winged feet let him fly, he has control over water, and he can breathe on the surface as well. Interestingly, the actor is most definitely LatinX, and seems to mostly speak in the language of Talokan, which appears based on Yucatec Mayan, with dubbed/translated onscreen dialogue. They have this connection to Wakanda as it was the Spanish who destroyed their surface kingdom, and they prayed to their gods, which allowed them to escape being drowned by giving them blue skin & the ability to breathe underwater.

Shuri rediscovers how to synthesize the heart-shaped herb from things she found at Talokan, and becomes the new Black Panther. She had been trying to make the herb throughout the film - not to become the new BP but save Chadwick's life - she failed. Until ...

Riri Williams is being sought by the people of Talokan for building a vibranium detector, since their underwater kingdom is also built over vibranium. She's a student at MIT who not only built this detector but reverse-engineered Tony Stark's tech (if a little bit cobbled together.) The Wakandans build her a new Ironheart suit. Weirdly, even Okoye gets a new quasi-Iron Man suit and is now the "Midnight Protector".

Ending: Namor tried to get the Wakandans to join him in destroying the surface world. They refuse. He tried to kill Riri and failed, but Queen Ramonda drowned trying to save her. He floods most of Wakanda. Eventually Shuri defeats him by drying him out, but instead of killing him in vengeance, spares him, and Wakanda & Talokan declare a truce.

Surprise ... Contessa Val de Fontaine is not only the Director of the CIA, but Everett Ross' ex-wife!

Post-credit scene: T'Challa had a secret son with Nakia, who lives in Haiti and is named ... Toussaint. Oh, and the Wakandans have figured out how to create more of the heart shaped herb. So, Shuri doesn't need to have any kids - the monarchy of Wakanda, and the mantle of Black Panther, will in the future go back to another T'Challa (his secret Wakandan name).

There is no second post credit scene, and no Dr. Doom cameo.

Wanted to add one more thing: there is no attempt to cheesy-recreate Chadwick through deepfake-CGI like they did with Leia/Carrie Fisher in Rogue One, and I appreciate that. It wouldn't seem right. (No, he does not appear in a vision to Shuri, although her mother & Killmonger do. Natch, Killmonger tells her to kill Namor in vengeance, her mum says no.) Whenever he is seen in the film, it is only in flashback. I think that was appropriate. The film does end with a tribute to him in the credits.
