No beer at the 2022 World Cup
No beer at the 2022 World Cup
Behold Qatar. It's a nasty little absolute monarchy on the Persian Gulf where the 19th Century never ended. It's still ruled by the same dynasty as then. Its oil-rich upper class does love its sports. They have an F1 race, of course, and somehow they talked FIFA into letting them hold the World Cup in football/soccer. This starts in two days.
They built 7 of the world's largest stadiums for the event, largely with migrant forced labor, one step above slavery. There was some opposition, especially during the Arab Spring, but that was dealt with in the usual manner. Strict traditional Islamic law is in place, of course, and alcohol consumption is frowned upon. However, part of the deal they made to get the World Cup was that beer would be sold in the stadiums. They made a huge deal with Budweiser's parent company, one of those funny-name global conglomerates, to sell same.
Two days before the start, they reneged. To be exact, they finally concluded a deal with FIFA that specifies dry stadiums. I'm sure cash changed hands somewhere off-camera. No beer. At a soccer tournament. That's like a dry New Year's Eve. Only non-alcoholic Bud for the fans.
Oh, but wait. They will still sell real beer in the corporate suites. Money has its privileges, after all. If you have to ask what one of these suites costs, you can't afford it. They had a World Cup in LA once, and the ticket prices were off the charts. I think seats at the finals were getting scalped for hundreds of thousands of dollars, which would be more like half a million in today's prices.
Sports are where the real contradictions in this culture become bleeding oozing open sores.

When I was in Cairo, the hotel I stayed in had a Hard Rock Cafe. It had blasting music that kept me up all night, but I can also tell you it only served mocktails - no alcohol, not even to tourists.
Cairo is also a place of strange contradictions. My GF and I were on a tour boat going down the Nile. At the same time as a belly dancer was entertaining the crowd, there was a man feeding his wife - literally, he had to lift the flap on the headpiece of her burqa to feed her, like an infant.
The thing I find amazing is when we went to visit the Sphinx - it's hardly in the middle of the desert anymore, like you see in old photos. Now it's surrounded by T shirt shops. And these buttholes who will literally grab you and try and slam you on the back of their camel, take a photo, and then ask you to pay for the photo.

Haven't been to Cairo but I do know the pyramids are right at the edge of town. You have to photograph them from one direction, because the other way they look more like Vegas, with the golf course and hotels behind.
Can we jettison the Middle East and move it to Mars?

The US “human rights record” in 1936 was abysmal and had been such since at least 1877. That abysmal human rights record based in the same type of white supremacism as the Third Reich.
Germany in 1936 copied your colonizer reservations, your segregation policies, and your eugenics laws, developed by your trashy politicians.

First thing conservatives always go to is questioning the patriotism of others. We can love our country and, at the same time, admit to it's downsides and want to make it better.

Re: No beer at the 2022 World Cup
Don’t try to change the subject from this country’s atrocious conditions in 1936 with braindead trolling and racist, anti-Black pandering. By 1936 Europeans had decimated and trashed that entire continent with colonizer violence, just like American conservative whites had been doing to this one for 400+ years. :problem:
In 1936, there was not one place in this country Black people could go that was not ruled by the iron fist of white conservative segregationism and forced inequality.
These conditions did not even begin to budge until the very late 1960s, when my parents were well into adulthood, and you were busy screwing high school girls.
Don’t ever challenge the patriotism of the people your community has repressed with every possible type of social, legal, political, and sexual violence.
The Third Reich was copying your community’s race policies in 1936. Follow our example in your own miserable, supremacist life, and do better for yourself.

Since your statement above implies the U.S. has a better record on human rights on the continent of Africa please provide the source of your claim. Or are you going to runaway (BEEP! BEEP!) as usual.

Re: No beer at the 2022 World Cup
His only source is the WS idea drilled into him from birth that African Americans are supposed to be grateful for their mass murder and mass discrimination.
He won’t get very far with that, given that the colonizers of Africa were also conservative whites.
The main goal, though, is to avoid the fact that the Nazis based some of their most murderous policies on US white supremacy.
Republicans today still carry this legacy, and do so proudly. That’s why he is one.
