Woman fired after blocking black man from entering his apartment building

A white St. Louis woman was fired from her job Sunday after she tried to prevent a black man from entering the luxury apartment building where he lives. D'Arreion Toles said he was returning home from work when the unidentified tenant physically blocked him from entering the building at the Elder Shirt Lofts in the city's downtown.

Tribeca Luxury Apartments in St. Louis said it was "disturbed" by the interaction in the video and confirmed the woman in the video was an employee, CBS affiliate KMOV reports. After reviewing the incident, the company said the woman was terminated from her position. It noted that the incident did not happen at one of its properties.

I looked her up. She's the youngest member (28 years old) of the Maryland House of Delegates being elected in 2015 to a four-year term so she's up for reelection next year. She came out, publicly, as being bisexual earlier this year on the House of Delegates floor arguing for a bill banning “gay conversion therapy” for minors. When she came out to her parents "..they encouraged her to see Christian counselors, at least one of whom specialized in treating “unwanted sexuality.”
Washington Post

I'm glad she's seen the light but her actions will speak louder than simply changing party affiliation.

Been there.

There's nothing like a political/social conversion experience induced by violent conservative parents to let you know who your friends actually are, and who is and who isn't in your corner.

Idaho Fish & Game official resigns amid fury over photos of him posing with animals he killed on Africa hunting trip

An Idaho Fish and Game commissioner resigned under pressure Monday when the state’s governor raised strong concerns about an email he had sent that contained photos of animals he’d hunted and killed during a recent African safari, including an entire family of baboons.

The photos showed Blake Fischer in a crouched position — smiling and posing with the dead baboons he hunted while on safari in Africa. The photo, and others he sent, sparked controversy over the weekend after the Idaho Statesman first reported the existence of the emails and the attached photos.

I think what really upset people was the killing of the family, including the babies, of baboon. Killing the babies served what purpose.

In your link, he stated:
Quote:
“I recently made some poor judgments that resulted in sharing photos of a hunt in which I did not display an appropriate level of sportsmanship and respect for the animals I harvested,” Fischer wrote. “While these actions were out of character for me, I fully accept responsibility and feel it is best for the citizens of Idaho and sportsmen and women that I resign my post.”

Sounds like he was apologizing for releasing the picture instead of the killings. Also, he calls what he did was "harvested" the animals when is really was hunting.

Glad this major A-hole resigned.

Alaska Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott abruptly resigns following “inappropriate comments”

Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott abruptly resigned from office Tuesday, Alaska Gov. Bill Walker said, following disclosure of recent "inappropriate comments" he made. It wasn't immediately clear what Mallott said or to whom, and the governor and his staff were not answering questions about what happened.

A new lieutenant governor, Alaska Health and Social Services Commissioner Valerie Nurr'araaluk Davidson, was immediately sworn in. In a brief statement, she said she was "profoundly disappointed" by Mallott's conduct, adding "respect for women, and the dignity of all Alaskans, is our responsibility."

It sounds like the new lieutenant governor Valerie Nurr'araaluk Davidson who is "profoundly disappointed" knows what Mallott did, but didn't say to the reporter.

Oh',,, he's lucky to be alive. I looked to see what was going on, he killed a pro-fisheries ballot initiative for crying out loud. Salmon fishermen are mad at him. They go for the gills. :|

Florida judge throws cops in prison for framing black teen — after prosecutors asked for leniency.

Quote:
The Miami Herald reports that former Biscayne Police officers Charlie Dayoub and Raul Fernandez were given the maximum one-year sentence this week, even though they had hoped to avoid prison time altogether by cooperating in an investigation implicating former Biscayne Police Chief Raimundo Atesiano.

U.S. District Judge K. Michael Moore slammed prosecutors for only recommending home confinement for one officer and a one-year probation for the other.

“It would have been a slap on the wrist, and it would have sent entirely the wrong message — particularly to the minority community,” Moore said during the sentencing. “To think that they can come into court and get a slap on the wrist is insulting to the men and women in law enforcement.”

Both officers had given grand jury testimony implicating Atesiano, who pleaded guilty last month to conspiring to deprive suspects of their civil rights by pressuring his officers to frame innocent men of color for local crimes.

Mission Coal files for bankruptcy—5th coal company in 3 years

A Tennessee coal mining company that filed for bankruptcy this week is the second coal company to go bankrupt during Donald Trump's pro-coal presidency. It's also the fifth U.S. coal industry bankruptcy in the last three years as competitors in the energy market continue to drive coal into the dust pile.

Mission Coal, an operator of three mines in West Virginia and one in Alabama, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Sunday listing about $175 million in debt and just $55,000 cash on hand, according to court filings. This small company joins Colorado-based Westmoreland Coal, one of the country's oldest coal companies, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this month, and Peabody Energy, Arch Coal and Alpha Natural Resources, which all have ended up in bankruptcy courts since 2015.

Dollars Are Out, Euros Are In as U.S. Sanctions Sting Venezuela

“Venezuela said it will shun the greenback and inject 2 billion euros ($2.3 billion) into its sinking economy as U.S. sanctions limit the cash-strapped nation’s access to capital markets. Economy Vice President Tareck El Aissami said Tuesday that going forward all government auctions of foreign exchange would be quoted in euro, yuan and other hard currencies due to a so-called financial blockade imposed by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump and the country’s political opposition.

Venezuela’s ruling socialists have struggled to tame hyperinflation and address the collapse of what had once been one of Latin America’s most affluent countries: Wide-scale hunger, and the breakdown of public services has seen millions of citizens flee the oil-rich country for neighboring countries, creating region’s largest-ever migration crisis.”

Nicola Sturgeon has pulled out of a conference being jointly hosted by the BBC next month after learning that Donald Trump’s former strategist Steve Bannon had been invited to take part.

Scotland’s first minister said that allowing Bannon to freely express his opinions risked “legitimising or normalising far-right, racist views”.
