Spectrum is also having considerable trouble with legacy cable modems and whole-home DVRs from TWC. It's something of a clusterfuck, in fact.

Almost everyone at CollegeHumor is fired as new owner asks the internet for help

As of today, the venerable comedy concern CollegeHumor Media is mostly dead. In the words of Sam Reich, its chief commercial officer, IAC “has made the difficult decision to no longer finance us,” he wrote in a Twitter thread this afternoon. “Today, 100+ brilliant people lost their jobs, some of whom are my dear, dear friends.” That means the cuts hit every vertical: CollegeHumor, Dorkly, Drawfee, and Dropout — only five to 10 people are left, according to Bloomberg.

The news, however, wasn’t all bad: IAC agreed to let Reich become the humor company’s majority owner. “Of course, I can’t keep it going like you’re used to,” Reich wrote further down in the thread. “While we were on the way to becoming profitable, we were nonetheless losing money — and I myself have no money to be able to lose.”

Sonoma County airport site nixed from homeless camp search due to unexploded World War II military ordinance

A parking lot near the Sonoma County Airport that officials had been eying for a temporary homeless camp contains vials of mustard gas and unexploded World War II-era military ordnance buried underground, a problem that for years has been addressed by prohibiting any digging at the site.

Confronted with questions Wednesday about the underground contaminants, county officials said they are no longer considering the airport location as a stopgap site to replace the growing homeless camp along the Joe Rodota Trail in west Santa Rosa.

Lime scooters leaving San Diego.

Quote:
Lime Scooters have closed operations in a dozen markets, including San Diego, the company said on Thursday, just weeks after the San Diego City Council voted to prohibit dockless electric scooters on the city's boardwalks.

The company cited declining ridership, a lack of clear regulations and the city's recent ban on e-bikes and scooters on boardwalks as contributing factors for pulling the scooters from San Diego.

Great news for pedestrians. Now we don't have to walk around scooters left on the sidewalks or dodge the nutters who think they can weave in-and-out of pedestrians on a scooter.

Lime, you will not be missed.

The stuff that gets me are the otherwise healthy but overweight folks who ride those little atv's in stores, that the store provides maybe? Not sure where they come from.

Overweight people tend to be less active than others, this feeds the problem of course. It is a sad state of affairs we are in.

The fact they're using the store's wheel chair shopping cart doesn't mean they don't have a disability or a problem walking. Often, their problem isn't visible or obvious. A person with hip or knee problems may look normal but they're in pain if they have to walk. I'll leave it up to the store to decide who uses their wheel chair shopping carts. The thing that peeves me is people with "service/comfort" pets in stores. I'd guess 95% of those pets aren't certified as "service/comfort" pets. I saw a man walking a cat on a lease inside a Home Depot store last week and I just shook my head in disbelief.

I think that's part of the problem but the greater culprit is diet, genetics, and metabolism changing as we age. Americans have one of the worst diets, on a whole, than any other country in the world. We over eat, eat unhealthy fast food, calorie heavy snacks, and prepackaged meals instead of healthy meals. Genetically, many people's bodies are predisposed to store/hold fat. As people age, their metabolism tends to slow down meaning when you're in your teens your metabolism is burning a higher rate of calories than in your 30s, 40s, 50s, etc...

If I cared enough, I would follow one of them to see how well they walk to their car after they leave the store, but I would only be doing that to see if they were just lazy and to make myself angry and when I think of it that way, what the fuck do I care...I guess if I need it someday for real and lazy people are using it, then I can care.

I used to have a weight problem in my late teens and 20's, went on Weight Watchers, lost 65 lbs or whatever it was and since then one other time I gained weight, for about 2 years I got up to 210 or so...but for most of the last many years I am 165 and 6'0". but that does NOT mean I am healthy...sadly.

During most of my adult life, even while in the AF, I've been between 190 and 200 pounds for being 5'10". Fortunately, I don't have health problems and I move better than a lot of people half my age. My annual physicals always end the same way with the doctor saying I'm healthy with no problems other than an overactive thyroid and slightly elevated blood pressure which I take medications for.
Physically, I'm not limited in doing anything I couldn't do in my 30s but somethings I won't do any more like running. I decided many years ago walking at a brisk pace was better on my knees and hips than running.

Credo Mobile, ‘carrier with a conscience,’ to end direct activism campaigns

Credo Action, an online activism network affiliated with wireless company Credo Mobile, shut down Tuesday and several employees were let go, including a vice president who oversaw the company’s campaigns.

The organization and Credo Mobile are arms of Working Assets, a decades-old San Francisco company known for funneling a portion of customers’ phone, utility and credit card bills to progressive causes they designate. Besides the donations, the company has long organized customers around political campaigns, initiatives that became formalized as Credo Action in recent years.

Iran's only female Olympic medalist appears to defect, criticizes regime

The only woman ever to win an Olympic medal for Iran appears to have defected from her homeland, citing oppression at the hands of the Middle Eastern county's regime.

Kimia Alizadeh, 21, became a national hero when she won a bronze medal for taekwondo at the 2016 Rio games in Brazil.

Yeah you can't tell disability from looking. My mother had a serious lung disease and had more and more trouble breathing as her years increased. She'd been treated with massive steroids so was heavy set, with people assuming all manner of morality-based stuff about her diet, "lifestyle," etc.

Somebody might have just come out of dialisys or other debilitating outpatient treatment that day and stopped by the store on their way home. Somebody may be newly pregnant and not showing yet. Can't tell from lookin'...

World War II bomb defused in Germany after mass evacuation

BERLIN (AP) — Two World War II bombs were successfully defused in the western German city of Dortmund on Sunday, hours after thousands of people were evacuated from the surrounding area, officials said.

The bombs were 250-kilogram (330-pound) American and British bombs. Authorities initially thought they had detected four bombs, but later clarified that only two were found.

MLB To Suspend Jeff Luhnow, A.J. Hinch For One Year; Astros Stripped Of Draft Picks

Major League Baseball is set to bring forth an unprecedented set of penalties against the Astros organization in light of the sign-stealing scandal against them, Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic report. President of baseball operations/general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch will both be suspended for one year, per the report. The Astros will also lose their first- and second-round picks in each of the next two seasons and be fined the maximum $5MM that is allowable under the league’s constitution.

Punishment stemming from the 2017 sign-stealing scandal won’t stop with the Astros organization, either. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports that “harsh” punishment will be levied against Red Sox manager Alex Cora as well for the role he played in the now-infamous “trash can” setup. Cora was the Astros’ bench coach at the time but was hired by the Red Sox in the 2017-18 offseason.

Franklin College Fires President After His Arrest for Sex Crimes: 'We Are Deeply Shocked'

Thomas Minar, the president of Indiana’s Franklin College, has been fired after he was arrested over the weekend for sex crimes.

Minar was arrested in Wisconsin, the college said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE, “for use of a computer to facilitate a sex crime, child enticement, and expose a child to harmful materials/narrations.” The school said it was alerted to Minar’s arrest through an email from the Sturgeon Bay Police Department in Wisconsin, who did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Russian prime minister and government resign after Putin speech

MOSCOW, Jan 15 (Reuters) - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Wednesday that his government was resigning to give President Vladimir Putin room to carry out the changes he wants to make to the constitution.

The unexpected announcement, which came shortly after Putin proposed a nationwide vote on sweeping changes that would shift power from the presidency to parliament, means Russia will also get a new prime minister.

Seattle City Council bans ‘foreign-influenced’ companies from most political spending

The Seattle City Council voted Monday to ban most political spending by “foreign-influenced corporations,” in a move that could hinder attempts by multinational tech titans to influence the city’s elections.

The legislation’s architect, Council President M. Lorena González, has said she believes the ban will apply to Amazon, despite the company being based here, because it will cover businesses substantively owned by foreign investors.

Washington (CNN) President Donald Trump is adding three seasoned lawyers to his impeachment legal defense team, people familiar with the matter said, including Kenneth Starr, the hard-charging prosecutor whose work led to President Bill Clinton's impeachment.

Alan Dershowitz, the constitutional lawyer, and Robert Ray, Starr's successor at the Office of Independent Counsel during the Clinton administration, are also joining the team, the people said.
