Number 41

Democrat Berman holds on to big lead over Donnally in District 31

Image

To be specific, Lori Berman (D) defeated Tami Donally (R) in Florida's Senate District 31. The election was held because Senator Jeff Clemens (D) resigned after disclosing an extramarital affair with a lobbyist. It wasn't much of a contest because Senate District 31 is a Democratic stronghold but still, a win is a win.

Elizabeth Warren’s Pick Wins Ohio’s Democratic Gubernatorial Primary

Richard Cordray, the former head of the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, won the Democratic nomination for governor of Ohio on Tuesday, fending off a challenge from one-time presidential candidate and House member Dennis Kucinich.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) hand-picked Cordray, a former Ohio attorney general, to run the CFPB and raised money for his campaign. Cordray will face Ohio’s current attorney general, Republican Mike DeWine, in the general election race for the governor’s job. Incumbent John Kasich (R) is term-limited.

With Pittenger's loss, North Carolina's 9th District becomes even more of a national showdown

Democrats’ enthusiasm about potentially winning North Carolina’s 9th congressional district for the first time in 58 years got two shots of adrenaline Tuesday, from Republican Robert Pittenger’s surprising loss and Democrat Dan McCready’s overwhelming win.

Pittenger entered Tuesday believing he was on safer ground than he was two years ago, when he beat former Baptist preacher Mark Harris by just 134 votes in a newly drawn district. But Harris pulled the upset this time, likely making the 9th District even more vulnerable to flipping parties than it already was. And McCready’s dismissal of Democratic challenger Christian Cano positions him to attract even more national attention and money and to ride a blue wave in November, if there is one.

OK, looks like we're using this thread for not so special elections as well. So,

WEST VIRGINIA
Senate GOP Votes Percent (100%)
Blankenship 27,153 19.9
Jenkins 39,888 29.3
Morrisey 47,571 34.9

Don "Coal Boss" Blankenship came in third in the WV GOP primary with 20% of the vote, meaning ... he's out of there.

Don, maybe you need to take a slow boat with a "Chinaperson" to somewhere else. Won't say I'll miss you.

I guess you're going to go back to endangering your coal workers' lives with shoddy safety practices, hope that gig doesn't last too long, either.

Now it's #41 congrats to Helen Tai

DLCC Wins Pennsylvania Special Election

WASHINGTON -- Tonight in Pennsylvania, Representative-elect Helen Tai flipped House District 178 from red to blue, ending Republicans' 35-year-hold on the district and marking Democrats’ 41st flip since the 2016 election.

“Congratulations to Representative-elect Helen Tai on her incredible win tonight,” said DLCC Executive Director Jessica Post. “Pennsylvania voters made their voices heard – they are ready to send a representative to Harrisburg who will stand up for them and advocate for government and redistricting reform, smarter investments in our public schools, and fight the opioid crisis. The DLCC looks forward to continuing our work with Pennsylvania state Democrats to win more seats in November and position Democrats for success ahead of critical 2020 redistricting.”
