My sister and me were talking about the next presidential election. She firmly believes that if Trump were to lose, he would not peacefully relinquish the office to the victor. He will claim the election was rigged, call out the news media for being against him, and stay in office, making lawyers get involved and sparking pockets of civil war and unrest.

I don't doubt this.

What do you all think? Will he peacefully leave office, help with the transition and be on his merry way?
Or NOT.

Yeah, well he certainly made vague threats of that nature back in 2016.

He is such a cynical bastard. He keeps asking why Obama didn't do more about Russian interference. He knows the f'n answer. If Obama had stepped in more to the election, he would have been whining louder about the system being rigged against him. In his usual fashion, he said there might be riots in the streets if he lost ... "not that he was going to start them," of course.

Dunno, Rita. Will he make it to 2020? Will this country make it to 2020? I don't know if I'm going to leave it, but my faith in this country and its ascendance for a more perfect union will surely be shaken if he wins again in 2020.

I say keep our eyes on the more immediate problem: this year and the Congressional elections.

Thanks Professor. Now I feel so much better. :rw)

Yesterday, he tweeted this

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/sta ... 4366503941

When the corrupt call out the corrupt, there's no hope in our current political body of standing up to Trump. We may end up with a dictatorship before 2020.

He never really wanted to be President but wanted the attention running for President got him. He'll relinquish the office if he loses in 2020 because it gives him a way to quit without losing face but he'll portray himself as the "victim" of the the "liberal elites" who rigged the system against him.

Constitutionally his term will expire and it won’t matter what he says or what he wants. Whomever wins the 2020 election will be sworn into office and will assume all the duties, responsibilities and the powers bestowed upon the POTUS by the constitution. Legally he will be out of a job whether he likes it or not.

Hard to say how Trump would handle the transition. Anybody’s guess.

While I am sure the transition will not be as smoothly as others. The notion he wont give up the office has been leveled at
Obama
G W Bush
Clinton
It is just one of those deals that partisans seem to say and believe of the other side. Tell your sister she has nothing to worry about.

Honestly (yeah I know a foreign concept to him)? He's already proven he would. He did it before the 2016 election day.

I'm pretty sure that, when the new president has been sworn into office on inauguration day, he will be leaving office. No soldier or secret service officer is going to help him stay, or help keep the new President out. He will certainly claim the election was rigged and blast the media though.

jdogg is probably right. I don't think any Republican, or Supreme Court Judge even, is willing to stand on the side of treason for history to see.
