Votes don't count in the long run. Only money counts. We've done the Gilded Age one better.

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Says the man who believes a party with a one vote majority in the house and senate should have absolute and unchecked power.
Those states not represented by the majority party fuck em.
Actually unlike you I agree with our form of government.

You sure don’t mind that a Republican decides everything in the House.
You want to rule, whether you have the most votes or not.
Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
No I prefer a representative republic where all sides have a voice and at the end of the day we see compromise.
Unfortunately compromise ended thanks to the internet.

No, thanks to the GOP. Gingrich, your hero, broke it all down. Takes two sides to make peace, but only one to make war.
Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Of course it's the republicans fault.

Federal court upholds DeSantis-backed congressional map
A panel of federal judges upheld Florida’s congressional map, turning away a challenge that alleged it was discriminatory against Black voters after the district held by former Rep. Al Lawson, a Black Democrat, was dismantled.
The decision is a substantial victory for Republicans and Gov. Ron DeSantis, who muscled the map through Florida’s GOP-controlled Legislature. The congressional map his administration crafted ultimately resulted in Republicans gaining four seats, helping the GOP flip the U.S. House during the 2022 midterm elections.

It obviously isn't gerrymandering otherwise the judge's would have ruled differently

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
You would say different if it were a Dem-controlled state. You like a rigged system when it’s your side doing the rigging. You have to do that, because you can’t get a majority of Americans to vote for you.
Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Allowing politicos to decide who gets to vote for them is just stupid.
Yes, you can have non-partisan drawing of election maps. Many other countries have managed to do it. Unless it's one of those "American exceptionalism" things. Everyone can do it, except America.

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Actually I was thinking about what you always say about democrats who are obviously corrupt.
So using your standard there was no gerrymandering

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
You’re trolling. You have a double standard. If Dems do it, it’s gerrymandering, if Republicans do it, it’s not.
You guys can’t get enough people to vote for you, so you have to play these games to keep power.
Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Sp in your opinion is there gerrymandering in Florida

We have as little gerrymandering today then we have probable ever had.
As for ending it period I do not see how that is humanly possible.
Take California for example. For years heard about how fair and equal their process was.
Then I looked it up and learned thet have an equal number of Republicans and Democrats. With the rest made up of parties left of the democratic party.
Using the US Senate as a gage, we see the make up of the house and senate are statistically almost the same.

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Of course it’s easy. We could create a national program with basic rules, such as the districts must be more blocky - no districts that are elongated and ramble around. Not a hard as the programs that make the wildly gerrymandered districts now.Glennfs wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 4:36 pm We have as little gerrymandering today then we have probable ever had.

House Democrat losing seat due to redistricting introduces bill to combat partisan redistricting
Rep. Wiley Nickel (D-NC) is not running for reelection to his North Carolina seat after it was redrawn to favor Republicans, but he is introducing legislation to take the redistricting process out of the hands of state legislatures.
Nickel introduced the bill on Tuesday that would create independent commissions of 15 people in each state to formulate congressional maps each decade to coincide with new census data. The bill called the Fair and Impartial Redistricting for Meaningful and Accountable Political Systems, or FAIR MAPS, Act would "restore fairness" in the redistricting process, according to Nickel.

We have less gerrymandering today than ever in our history. It is simply impossible to end all gerrymandering. As for FAIR Act it would wind up just like California's so called impartial district drawings. Where you have an equal number of Republicans and democrats with the remaining being made up of parties that are to the left of the democratic party.

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Sure it’s possible. You just don’t want it to end, because it would hurt your party.Glennfs wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2024 5:04 pm We have less gerrymandering today than ever in our history. Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
I am just being realistic. There is no effective way to put forth a system which doesn't favor one party over the other.
Also today we have as little gerrymandering as we have ever had.
If we had gerrymandering then the House and Senate numbers would not be so close.

Re: We need to end gerrymandering - PERIOD.
Not true. If you put all Senate votes together, nationwide, we’d have far more Senators than the GOP. But since states with a smaller population than a big city has two Senators while California has two, it’s obviously skewed.Glennfs wrote: ↑Thu Apr 11, 2024 10:42 am I am just being realistic.
