Portugal’s election shows a surge in support for the far right, reflecting a broader European trend

Portugal’s far-right Chega party on Sunday received a surge in support in the country’s snap general election, reflecting a broader shift to the radical right across Europe.

Portugal’s center-right Democratic Alliance claimed victory in the vote, winning 79 seats in the country’s 230-seat National Assembly — well short of a parliamentary majority. The incumbent center-left Socialist Party followed closely behind with 77 seats.

It's a total sham in Russia Putin doesn't deserve to be reelected.

Despite scenes of defiance, plenty of Russians support Putin as election nears

Moscow (CNN) — There is an inevitability about the outcome of Russia’s looming presidential election.

Like it or not, Vladimir Putin, the man driving a catastrophic war in Ukraine, a brutal crackdown on dissent, and a lurch toward isolation in Russia, now the most sanctioned nation on earth, is poised to win a fifth term in the Kremlin and appears as much in control of Russia as at any time over the past 24 years.

Discrepancy in Alto vote count; Trump, Biden sweep party primaries

It appears P.J. Huggins will return to the Alto City Council. Mere months after being defeated in her reelection bid for mayor, Huggins appears to have won Tuesday’s special election for the Post 1 City Council seat left vacant by Carolyn Cabe’s death.

According to unofficial returns, Huggins won Tuesday’s special election by one vote over John Smith. Huggins received 30 votes to Smith’s 29. However, a discrepancy in the reporting makes it difficult to call the race with certainty.

It'll be overturned by the NC Supreme Court because it's Republican but for now.

North Carolina judges block elections board changes pushed by Republicans that weaken governor

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina’s GOP-controlled legislature unlawfully tried to seize from the governor the power to choose elections board members in the battleground state, trial judges ruled while saying portions of a new election law must be permanently blocked.

The three-judge panel sided unanimously with Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper in his lawsuit filed days after the GOP-controlled General Assembly overrode Cooper's veto of the measure in October. The changes, which had been set to take effect in January, would have shifted board appointment powers away from the governor and to the legislature.

One far-right leader ousted. Another barely hangs on. Is Shasta rejecting MAGA politics?

Shasta County voters have booted from office a key figure in the county's hard-right shift, even as the fate of a second far-right crusader on the powerful Board of Supervisors still hangs in the balance.

Patrick Jones, a former chair of the five-member board, was soundly defeated in the Super Tuesday election, according to results released by the county registrar Friday afternoon. With 98% of the vote counted, Jones' opponent, Matt Plummer, a nonprofit adviser, was winning outright with nearly 60% of the vote.

The criminal got what he wanted a rigged win & long term dictatorship Russia is done don't set foot in there everyone.

Putin wins what Russia claims was an "election" for its presidency

Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin late on Sunday unsurprisingly claimed victory in what Russia said was an election for its presidency, solidifying his rule throughout the remainder of this decade and into the 2030s.

Why it matters: What millions of people voted in over the past few days — in some cases against their will — and what 71-year-old Putin won wasn't an election in any traditional sense of the word.

Russian elections don't have a lot of credibility. As long as I can remember, the incumbents have always won by at least 85%. I don't have trouble believing that the ballots get a straight count, because most candidates don't make it onto them. Instead, their reward is a free one-way trip to the Gulag.

A lot of people would like American elections to be that simple.

All you do is deflect for them. I remember when you guys hated Communists, but you love Putin and was fine with Trump having KGB thugs in the Oval Office where he gave them Israeli Intel. Wonder if Putin sold it to Hamas so they could pull off their terror attack?

I'm trying to think of another election where this many people were this mad at each other. I can't. Maybe the ones when I was too young to vote, when the issue was whether to keep burning babies in Vietnam, so they wouldn't grow up to be Communists.

Say, how did THAT one turn out, BiBi?

Pittston voters keep Joe Caputo following failed recall attempt

PITTSTON — After weeks of controversy, an attempt to oust Selectman Joe Caputo failed at the polls Monday, as nearly two-thirds of residents casting ballots voted to keep him.

More than 600 people turned out at the Pittston Town Office Monday to decide whether Caputo would remain on the board, fill open seats on the Select Board and Gardiner-area school district.

You just can't tell the truth to save your life, can you?

I guess it's the Donald Trump effect. You learn from him that lying is a way of life.
