Ya know, if it just so happened that today was the birthday of someone on this board.

That person doesn't really care if anybody notices or remembers or pays attention.

I mean, birthdays are just another day out of the year, and who gives a crap about them, anyway. It's just another number on this thing we call your age.

So, again, this is just to point out, of course that person wouldn't care. :D

Wouldn't mind in the least if nobody noticed. So much else is going on right now, it's maybe that person's misfortune to be born in the middle of Day of the Dead, such an important holiday, and most years, American elections, when people are focused on other stuff.

OK. Anyway, carry on. That person wouldn't want to seem too self-absorbed.

It's an axe now, my man. "Jarnbjorn". Sounds like one of the new Haagen-Dazs flavors.

Ok. It's a bit weird. Axe in the front, hammer in the back. Sort of like an Asgardian mullet, mallet.

Now - I keep asking this - if Thor's powers don't need Mjolnir, why was it taken from him the first movie? :D

Yeah, yeah. I know. Continuity, canon, Marvel movies. No point in applying 1 and 2 to 3.

Peace Professor.

Happy birthday.

Thor:Ragnarok answers that question. Are you the god of hammers or the god of thunder? He had to learn. Very typical Marvel plot device as I recall from my youth.

Yeah, so as I was celebrating last night, my wish revolved around next Tuesday.

Here's hoping.

Happy Birthday, Professor.

Although I don't celebrate my birthday (I've even forgotten it on a couple of occasions) I can see why some people celebrate their birthday.

What are you, some kind of Jehovah's Witness?

(They don't celebrate birthdays. I once had one for a student. He explained it to me. Something to do with John the Baptist. Honestly, it didn't make much f'n sense.)

I kid, of course. I know lots of people who don't. Honestly, though, I mostly tend to forget other peoples', but not my own. :D

No, I’m not Jewish (not that there’s anything wrong with that) but as an adult I find the notion of celebrating my birth, which I had no control on, to be silly. I can see it for children because it becomes their day and it’s all about them. A birthday, to me, is a date on the calendar used to mark the beginning of when I came into this world and gives me a date to determine how many years/months/days I’ve been alive. Other than that, it’s just another day.

Uhhh, neither are Jehovah's Witnesses, though I understand not everybody else accepts them as Christians.

Got no dog in that hunt, of course.

They are weird. Eschatological. All along the Watchtower stuff. But anyway.

BTW, if somebody's banging on my door on the weekend, asking me to read their religious literature, it's almost always them. But in my neighborhood, usually they don't speak English, either. The stuff they have is in Spanish.

Happy belated, Prof! I totally missed this thread. I try to avoid my birthday, heh, at my age, I want a day that subtracts numbers. :)

(the classic '65 Mustang is in the mail)

A friend of mine has a way of getting rid of themg for good. He’ll tell them they can come in and for an hour tell him their religious views but they have to give him an hour so he can tell them his religious views and does all that in the nude like God intended everyone (like Adam & Eve) to do. They leave him pretty quickly.

The ones I don’t like are the ones who want to read the Buible to you. I decline saying “Thank you but I’m literate” and close the door on them.

Maybe a birthday would mean something if we were all like Benjamin Button.

Or you can do like the South Koreans do and when the baby is born it is considered one year old.
